Helped friend setup webpage..got letter about photo copyright!

Got a threatening letter today demanding $1500 for use of 3 images of fish..Did not pay much attention if photos were copyrighted as just a personal blog about fishing..did have adsense on it though..Pics are from famous artist of fish..advice..I did not respond to anything or plan to as of yet...

    I'm not a lawyer, but using others images without knowing the usage rights is kinda irresponsible and can land you in hot water.

    I would definitely take the photos down.... asap...

    I won't give any advice on what to do about the email.....

    Not sure why you would be mad or upset, the person who owns the rights to the images, has waaay more right to be mad and upset, than the person illegally using the images, just saying.

      Set up a long time ago and just forgot about it..Know a lot better now..$500 per image is rough ..

    I bought a site once and allnthe images were nicked..... oh yes about £12k in fines.....

    Taking them down wouldn't solve the issue. I'm quite sure the owner has already documented the case. I'd advise to apologize, and bargain the price down a little. Of course, $500 for one image is not that much. With a stock image company lawyer on the case you would never get away for so little.

    Oh they are long gone...I only use Istock now..Geez just forgot about that site completely..One step forward and ten back sometimes..Wonder what my odds of it actually going to court are?

    That why its always a risk to use image from other site.
    If you have their contact or something maybe you might turn your blog content to help them promote or something then they might think not to sue you with copyright anymore.
    Lucky is only image, some even get content copyright and request to close the whole site down .
