First Website in Progress - Critiques Needed!

What's up warriors?

If you can't tell by my post count, I'm new to the IM game.

I made this website on the free host 000webhost. I'm basically using this as a learning experience so that I can have an idea of what I'm doing when I buy a domain name and hosting (broke college student ).

The website is not complete, as I just started it today, but I wanted to get some feedback and see if I'm on the right track. Also, what do you guys think about the theme and layout? Here's the link: Sciatica Cure

Thanks for your help guys, I can tell this is going to be a great place to start my Internet Marketing journey!

    layout and theme look good.
I would create a report like Natural Ways to Cure Sciatica and Relieve Lower Back Pain and have people join your opt-in list as this will become traffic you own. If u cant afford $15/mo to use getresponse or aweber yet just get the report ready.
When u do get hosting say from bluehost setup a redirect file for your banners affiliate link ...to hide that its an affiliate link.
    your on the right track

Thanks for the response. I was thinking about writing the free report like you said, so I will definitely start that right away, until I can accumulate some money.

As far as link cloaking, I was working on it, but I was having some issues with my php file, I'll continue working to get that fixed.

      Thanks again for your help!

and also agree with above i would certainly get an optin form up and running asap

Cool site. Not sure if I would use the word "cure" in your domain name and promotions, but keep putting up new content and drive traffic to your site.

Yeah your post just made me think.

Using the word "cure" probably implies that this is the "end all be all". Dumb mistake on my part, but I guess that's what this is for.

I will definitely learn from my mistakes. Thanks for the response!

I use the same theme for one of my sites and it can be a pain. But looks like you customized it well. Also your content is very engaging and seems to be unique. Be sure to include a medical disclaimer in your site, and get your own domain name/hosting soon.

Yea I've had some problems along the way, but it has been a great learning experience, even if it is just the first day!

I will definitely include a medical disclaimer, and get my own domain and hosting once I can (gotta love being a student ).

Great looking website you have there - Looks clean and is easy on the eyes

To help you out, before you start sending traffic to this site - make sure you have an opt in box. Building your email list is probably the most important thing you can do to make a regular income each and every month.

Good luck and here's to your high success!

      Thanks a lot!

Yes, building a list is the most important factor (something that I have learned from this site), but quite frankly, I cannot afford the $20 a month for an autoresponder.

But, once I can, it will be the first thing I do!

      Thanks again.

Affiliate links are now cloaked (after a lot of issues).

Also, I added more pictures to add to the visitor experience.

Now I just need to start driving traffic. Can anyone recommend the best place to start as far as driving traffic? (there's so much I can do I really don't know where to start )

Sorry to bump this thread again, but I'm looking to get as much feedback as possible, so that I can continue to improve my site.

I added a medical disclaimer and will be adding two or three more posts tomorrow.

My site is indexed on yahoo and bing on the third page of each, but it is not yet indexed on google after 2 days.

Any tips on how to get the site indexed on google faster other than to just wait it out?

          Thanks guys.

            Hi,
It is a very nice site. Clean and crisp. You write well.

If I were you I would not waste my time on a free site like that. I would purchase a domain name and set up your own blog now.

You can get hosting at hostgator.com under $7.00 for the baby plan which will allow you to set up unlimited domains. Make sure you get a .com domain. I like to use Netfirms. I usually pay under $10.00/ year there for a .com domain.
To see if domain names are available use domainsbot.com

At hostgator it will take you about 2 minutes to set up your wordpress blog.

I am sure, even as a college student you can afford about $15.00 initial investment and then under $10.00 per month.

The articles that you wrote, I would just take them off from the current site (delete them there) and paste them to your blog.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions.

            Best of luck

Definitely get that disclaimer going, cure is a big word for the FDA these days.

Also, and may be a silly question, but have you actually had sciatica? If not, i'd consider using a different pre-amble in your bio section.

If you have, then i'd consider a little more detail, as the current bio seems a little generic and formulaic.

Your website looks okay. I like the minimal design which doesn't distract visitors from reading the content.

As soon as you have the money, make sure that you buy web hosting and a domain name. Free web hosting is unreliable and a free subdomain is something you don't own or control. Namecheap is holding a promotion where you can get $1 domain names (it's not starting yet and I'm waiting for it). For web hosting, you can get a $1 web hosting for one month from Hostgator.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I understand about the free hosting, and I will get my own domain and hosting as soon as possible, I promise .

Yeah I just included the disclaimer, but I was a little lost on how to actually write one, so I put a spin on a generic one I found online. I will try to make it more clear, and I will also steer clear of the word "cure" as I now understand how it would cause some problems.

Yes I have had sciatica, that's why I felt it would be an easy start for me. I will definitely put more work into my bio right now.

      Thanks!

I noticed an error on the first page:

"And most importantly, it's something that everyone can do, where ever you are."

        That should be "wherever."

Also, text would be easier to read if font color were black.

Hey Jake, you website looks good so congrats on taking action.

You mentioned that you are broke college student so I wanted to give you and idea to generate some start up funds.

Flyer gigs on fiverr are selling like crazy. SO you could start a gig to hand out flyers at your school. Just 5 (5x$4) gigs and you'll be in profit to buy your own domain and pay monthly hosting on hostgator.

heck I would even order your gig

          Good luck.

          Hi
I just checked your site want it looks nice

But I think it is a bad idea to build a site on free hosts, it is not yours
they can take it down anytime they want.

Get your own hosting account, for example Goddaddy got a Economy plan
that is right now on sale for $1.99 a month or a Deluxe plan that is $2.99 a month,
get your domain name, it should be around $10 for one year and call this YOUR site.

We've heard to many stories of people that build sites on free host and from night
to day they just lost all their work, nothing to do.

Anyway I just wish you luck and carry on building great content for your site.

You're very right about not having his own domain but remember he said he was a broke college student and sometimes it can be hard to come up with a few dollars. So that's why I recommend him doing a few fiverr gigs to get some initial capital.

Thanks Jorge. Like I said before, I will do everything I can to get a domain and hosting as soon as possible as I know the risk of free hosting.

Essentially this is like a test run, or a learning experience so that I can know the process when I buy my hosting.

I'm not worried about this failing, because I am learning every second and I've already won because of the experience that this is giving me.

              Hi jakejoh10

I understand this is just an experiment and sometimes money is tight
but you can get the things right from the beginning without much expense
say 15/20 dollars can set you up in the right way.

This is a shame if you lose your site after all hard work you've been put on it.

              Just my thoughts

Jorge, I understand, I really do.

But, with the situation I'm in right now, I simply cannot afford the monthly fee for hosting.

    Hey Jake,
    Good job on the website.
Here is what I would do.

Firstly, you need your own site once you
    get funds. Thats a priority.
Change the word "cure" to "reverse".
Lose the banner ad in the bio section. People will
think that product is sponsoring the website,
and will suspect thats why you are promoting it.
Collect email addresses, by offering a free report.
Brainstorm other products you can sell to this list,
whether they buy the report or not.
Once you can afford it, create your own ebook offering this
solution. (Hint; get someone on elance to write it for you).

Big question. How are you going to get traffic??
Before setting this up, you must be able to answer
    this question.
    hope this helps!

May I ask your reasoning behind changing "cure" to "reverse"? The phrase "sciatica cure" gets around 2,900 global searches per month, while "reverse sciatica" gets less than 10.

As far as collecting email addresses, I realize that this is essential but I don't have an autoresponder. I have started working on a free report however, so that I can have something to give away when I can start building my list.

For traffic, I have been doing some blog commenting, I'm working on some articles, forum posting, squidoo, did some social bookmarking, and I plan on doing some video marketing in the near future. Any other suggestions?

      Thanks for the response.

Cure is a big word and there are all sorts of regulations that
can be side stepped by saying reverse.

The issue with forum posting as a traffic method is that you are an affiliate for a product. One person will see your site and begin talking about the actual product on the forums, not your site.

It would worry me that only 3k are searching for this solution, though sciatica is not something I know much about.

Regarding traffic, you need to get your site in front of people who
are actively seeking solutions to this issue. Where are they?
(I don't know, not even sure what sciatica is!)...

    nice website you got there.

agreed with the rest, having your own website is the best way for the long run. having said that you also need to identify way of making money from your website ie. selling ebooks, banners or adsense......

      Thanks!

I am promoting an ebook called the Sciatica Miracle, I'm still in the process of putting all of my affiliate links and banners on the site.

It's definitely a work in progress, and I'm open to all suggestions to improving the site.

Nice site. Good job. I would spend a good amount of time on your Bio. This is where you have a chance to connect with your audience and build trust. Other than, that GREAT job.

    Bring in the money!

    Be well,

Thanks a lot Lane. I really appreciate it.

By Bio, do you mean the "Who Am I" section in the side bar or the "About Me" page? Sorry for the dumb question .

Nice design. Clean and Crisp. You probably want to focus more on getting opt ins also.

I have lower back pain ( severe at times ) and enjoyed reading the content.

I can tell you that people with back pain will spend money for sure. I spent a small fortune at the chiro.

Agree with others, you need to get your own domain and hosting sorted a.s.a.p. You don't want to waste good content by giving up ownership to another site.

Wow, that means a lot, thanks Kevin.

I'm working on a free report, so that when I can afford an autoresponder, I will have something to give.

      Domain/hosting are priority #1.

      Thanks again for the response.

I like it, nice clean layout and easy to read.

As others have pointed out you need to get your own domain and hosting setup with a form to build a list.

About the only 2 things I would change is remove the pages widget from the sidebar as they all appear under the header at the top of the page, and code your banner to open in a new browser tab so visitors still have access to your page.

I will take care of those two things right now.

If others haven't said it already, you'll want to do some A/B testing of your advertisement placement. Right now at 1900x1280 your advertisement just barely comes above the fold. For other folks with lower resolution, they will not see your advertisement without scrolling down.

Yeah that's an issue I've been having. I have the "Who Am I" section, which is obviously a crucial part of connecting with the visitor.

But this section does push the banner down "below the fold".

Do you have any suggestions of where else I could put it?

Putting it above the "Who Am I" section would then push that section down "below the fold".

I'm kind of stuck in that regard .
