Fake Banner Ad - WARNING

I just received this email:

Hello,

My name is Eva Goldberg, owner of the company JPP Consulting and I'm interested to place a banner on your website.
You can see the banners (design ans sizes) at www. jpp-consulting.net/id_b3700/
My budget is US $450-$950/month, depending on the banner size you choose.

If you are interested please send me the url you propose and the price for 6 months or 1 year.

Thank you,
Eva.
DO NOT fall for this. The domain jpp-consulting.net was registered 4 weeks ago, on 16th Oct. The site is empty apart from one page that wants to run a java application on your computer. "Eva" doesn't even know which site she is asking you about.

I have no idea what the application would do to your computer as I didn't run it.

    Hi rosetrees,

I know you mean well but it's a really bad idea to include a live link to the offending site. We don't need proof that it's a bad link, we believe you.

Perhaps you should edit out the link?

Well thanks for the warning If I ever use banner ads I do and extensive research on the person before considering to use them on my site. I do this so I know if I will get paid on time and if the banner is not going to interfere with my website.

I've got a similar email, too. It was way too suspicious that I could tell there was something wrong with that particular email.

    Watch out guys.

    Thanks Rose!

That only shows how desperate they are to gain traffic and get money that they resort to this kind of spam email.

Imagine if this goes to inexperienced users who easily fall for this fake banner ad.

I had almost the same thing happen to me a few times. It looked way too suspicious too so I actually did what I always do when this happens.

Delete the email and move on.

Not going to waste time with this.

    • Yup, this pops up from time to time under various company names.

If you say yes, sometimes they insist you install a plug-in on your site.

          Here we go again...

          This time the email says:
My name is Liza Mecklenburg, representing the advertising department of the JPP Consulting company. We are interested to place an ad (banner), of your choice, on your website.
Design and sizes can be seen on our website at www. eandjconsulting. net/ id_79ddd /
(I broke the link down so people won't even think of posting it into their browsers).

Notice the mismatch in domain and company names which I've highlighted? I didn't, and since I've previously received similar offers which were real and proved very lucrative, I bit and clicked. I was cautious enough not to let the java run - but having clicked the link I'm pretty sure my spam folder for this email address will soon overflow.

    Umm...

I'd think it a bit suss that someone is contacting you asking you if you want to pay them to advertise on their site. Didn't exactly come across as a slick advertising company did it?

Get this sort of rubbish all the time.

Get these spam emails more these days.
Perhaps market is still not good yet.

Anyway, there are such frauds in Internet Marketing all the while.
Just last year, I paid for a $397/- per month mentoring program.
The 1st few sessions are okay. However, he start to miss the agreed time to Skype.
Even so, he doesn't seem to go in depth to explain and access my progress.
    Lots of flattering comments.

Have since found a new mentor. So far so good.
Have learnt so much over the past two months.
    Making positive income now.
God bless that I did not give up looking for good mentorship.

It's better to use a 3rd party service like BuySellAds to sell your banners, it would save you many troubles.

This is a tricky one. I've been offered blatant malware banner to advertise on my site as well as legitimate ones (many porn or casino). This isn't really an issue for me as I don't sell advertising space on the site...well, at least while business is good anyway.

      Dammit!

I should've been more careful! I've just received the very same email today & naively I installed the java program. Something wrong did happen to my laptop (a 3-second hang) which suddenly gave me an instant alert.

What should I do now? I've deleted the program from my laptop (by pressing the 'delete' button only), but not sure if it's still inside my laptop. I've searched the program through "Program & Feater" on control panel, & couldn't find any.

      My question is:

How can I make sure that the program I've installed has totally been removed from my laptop?

      Now I'm worried...
