Membership Site Owners - How do you pay Affiliates?

Hi

I'm setting up a subscription service (i.e. membership site!) and I had a question.

I was wondering how other Warriors with membership sites recruit, track and pay their affiliates recurring payments?
  1. Do you use ClickBank?
  2. Do you use PayDotCom?
  3. Do you use another Payment Processor?
  4. Do you use a self-hosted or "roll your own" solution?

Ideally I'd like to be able to pay affiliates a recurring commission of 50%, and I'd also like the option of a 2-tiered program where affiliates could recruit other affiliates and earn an additional 10% on signups under them.

I'm a programmer and could easily put together a custom solution using PayPal or using a commercial script like AMember, but I really don't want to manage the payments myself if it can be avoided. I like the idea of ClickBank and PayDotCom because of their existing base of qualified affiliates and their reputation in the IM community , but I'm not sure they offer the services I need:
  1. I would like the payments to occur automatically.
  2. I would like any tax paperwork (for US affiliates and international ones) to be handled by someone else!
  3. I would like to have a customer service department for my affiliates to contact if they have issues with their payments

I'n NOT looking for a solution where someone hosts the whole site for me, the system I have built is quite unique and its hosting requirements are very stringent.

I need to get this figured out soon, as I really can't assemble the membership component until I know how the whole payment process works. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I originally started out with a self hosted solution but it became the bane of my existance managing that program. In fact, managing the affiliate payments, complaints, support emails etc etc actually ended up taking more time than the actual membership site.

So I made the decision to change to PayDotCom and so far its working pretty well and saving me a heap of time and money. They are pretty much handling the guts of the operation and that IMHO is priceless.

Just my 2 cents but consider either hiring an affiliate manager (if your sites big enough) or go with an external solution where you can absolve yourself of the work.

    I use ClickBank and PayDotcom.

Some years ago I used an in-house system - big mistake. Proper affiliate management is a tough job. The nightmare comes when your affiliate software bombs out!

Thanks for the responses, very much appreciated.

Does PayDotCom handle the payments to affiliates or do they just give you a list of affiliate earnings and leave the payments to you? As iplusgold and hotlinkz have pointed out it is best to outsource as much of this stuff as possible, and I couldn't agree more.
