Sometimes you miss an easy opportunity

I recently returned to one of my niche sites which I haven't updated for a while.

The site gets maybe 200 or 300 visitors per day.

I've tried Adsense on it, which earns may $1 per day on that site, on a good day.

I've tried affiliate links via ClickBank to related products, and to my own products, and to Amazon. It generated some income, but not huge. I figured that $2 or $3 per day, at most, was the best the site would ever do.

Moved on and forgot it.

Anyway, I recently went back to that site, to make a few changes. I also added a different related ClickBank product banner when just messing around. The updated product banner isn't obviously more related than previous products I've linked to.

Woooh... early days yet, suddenly this site is getting $20 or $30 per day

Just changing one ClickBank product banner for a different one, neither of which is obviously better, made this difference.

I guess the point is, if you have a website that is getting targeted traffic but making little or no money - there probably is a way to monetize the traffic effectively - you just haven't discovered what it is yet.

I suppose the moral of the story is to continually split test, and not just the banners.

You're probably right, but most people who have multiple sites, probably have some sites in their portfolio which are semi-inactive. In that those semi-inactive sites are not making much money, therefore not the focus of efforts at improvement.

Yes, I have a few sites that are getting targeted traffic but not making money...I can't figure out how to effectively monetize it. That is the hardest part for me. Any suggestions let me know. It is in relation to Facebook and silly posts from Facebook.

True. Like everyone else here already commented, you should never give up and try to always conduct a split test to know which ones should be replaced to improve your website conversion.

You need to put offers that pay you higher commissions.

If your site is getting you 200-300 visitors per day, for other marketers, they would be making $100-$500 per day.

It is just as easy to sell a $100-$500 product as it is to sell something that gets you $10-$50 per sale.

You also want to collect emails of people so that you can send them different offers at different sequences. This will only grow your income.

I can't agree with that completely. Yes it might be true in some cases, but it really depends on the topic of the site.

200-300 visitors looking for say (not my site's topic!) pictures of Rihannon, are looking to scratch some other need than shopping. They probably aren't going to give you their email address either - a lot of them might want to cover their tracks!

As for higher prices, again I think that depends on the site topic, user's search criteria, etc. People say searching for "local pizza delivery West London", are not going looking to spend $100 or $500, but they might be immediately ready to spend $25

that's true, if your site isn't paying for your traffic then continue to monetize until you get the best results.

If a site I have is getting traffic but not making sales I always change the offers / adverts around until something works. If after extensive testing nothing converts I'll consider it a dud site and move on (or sell it if possible).

That's great you went back to it. Two to three hundred visitors per day is definitely worth your time to do some testing with the monetizing for sure. I have a site as well that I never thought would become anything. I actually wondered why I even created it at one time until it started rising up in the SERPs and was getting more traffic than most others and was my top earner until a penguin crapped on it. It's coming back, slowly but surely.

Forget Adsense, it's a joke now. Clickbank is so-so. You should be focusing on CPA to bank hard.

That's some good traffic you have coming to your site. You should further try to monetize it even more. I would put more hours into monetizing it also.
