Hello Warriors,

I'm a PHP developer by heart, have a few projects I worked on and contributed a lot to open source code. But I've never really made any money with it. I also design a little bit so building websites is not a problem for me.

A friend of mine introduced me to internet marketing, more specific he runs 3 websites that revolves around "content unlock" and he's making some money off it, not that much but enough to pay for school .

I've been thinking about doing what he's doing but I want to have a realistic strategy and some guidance in what to do exactly. Because I want to understand the process.

I've read this website was really awesome and I think it is but it's veeery overwhelming to read all this information concerning a lot of topics which I don't know nothing about.

Which brings me to my question: What "kind" of internet marketing schemes are there that are noob friendly? I'm willing to put a lot of time and effort into this don't get me wrong.

And does anyone have any suggestions on what I should read / view?

Thanks in advance!

Nick

p.s. I hope I am posting this in the right forum.
p.p.s Just noticed typo in my thread name.. not cool

Well, like the rest of us I think in the beginning it was all trial and error. I can't give you any one specific noob program. I can give you names of people that I have had success from working their programs.

And a simple search of newbie friendly programs on this site will be a good start. Try not to get overwhelmed by it. Pick something that you are interested in, research it to see if it is viable and successful and give it a shot.

I have had success using programs from Tiffany Dow, Kenster and Potpiegirl. You can do a Google search for them.

    Good luck!

I think this should be your ultimate goal. Meaning, create a product/script that uses your PHP building skills and sell your own product.

To get to this point, you'll need to research a bit.

Marketing is finding a hungry niche and feeding them what they want.

Find a script or the need for one, and go build it.

As for how you get to your ultimate goal, there are a bazillion ways to do this.

Content Unlock is just ONE method to get conversions to make money, but that still is going to involve driving targeted traffic to the offer. Traffic is imperative to any product you are going to market.

You could also consider signing up to some of the freelance sites for some more immediate cash - and use that money to fund setting up a proper business.

Understanding what process, exactly? There's a process involved in everything you do online. It's a plan you need, and a long term one at that.

Start from the beginning and keep away from anything that's focused on making money above all else. Look into list building first.

Every developer ive worked with has said their strategy was simply trial and error. You will also learn so much and it is the only true step to success with these things. Even the best out there make mistakes on a daily basis.

I would recommend getting into ClickBank
    marketing.

You sell other peoples information products
for a commission. Typically around 50-75%.

There is a learning curve. But that's true for
    all online marketing.

Anyone who tells you different is trying to
    sell you something. No lie.

Ignore what 99% of people do on this forum.

ie. SEO, Adsense, Clickbank, Squeeze Pages, etc

Do what the 1% who make all the money do:

CPA/Affiliate Marketing. Paid Traffic. Instant Results. Measured.

There are many 1%ers in non CPA models and most of them do squeeze and SEO in some capacity.

I think it's important to focus on doing what you're good at, find some material and read only material that is 1. relevant, and 2, actionable toward your goals, both financially and what you want to do. If you're a PHP developer and feel you're good at it, then I would look into courses/systems that show you how to create products. People on WF love good software that helps them in IM.

    Be well,

    Lane

I second what Joan Altz and Lane said...

As a programmer, you're in a bit of a unique situation in the sense that
you have a very specific set of skills and it happens to fit in nicely with
    marketing online.

    My suggestions would be:

    1) Look at affiliate marketing as a first step as a way to "reverse engineer"
and study sales funnels and processes that companies and marketers are
using to market and sell products & services online. (maybe popular software?)
Sign up to affiliate programs and CPA networks.

    2) Set up your own blog/website and share what you know about programming
and software and share useful tips, articles and videos on your site. Make
product recommendations based on your experience with those products.
    (Refer to step 1)

    3) Make sure you have an email sign up form on your site so that you can
start building your email list of the interested visitors to your site. Keep in touch
with them with helpful programming/software/computer related tips and advice.
Make an occasional "pitch" to them recommending products and services that
you use and are comfortable recommending to others.

    4) Survey your list on occasion to see what kind of products they might be interested
in based on solving some sort of problem they're having with their computer or the
software that they use on a regular basis.

    5) Keep your eye on the market and constantly be thinking of ways to create and
add value through your unique set of skills.

    6) Continue to study marketing and sales processes so that you can start to sell and
market your own products effectively. Never stop learning my friend!

    Hopefully that helps!

Please keep us posted on your progress.

    Kind regards,

    Jerry

There has been a ton of info above for you to contemplate. In your original post you asked what kind of internet marketing schemes are best for noobs. I wouldn't be looking for a scheme. I would use your current skills and consider going into the plugin development. You can make a ton of money selling your own plugins. There are plenty of product development courses found here that will get you well on your way.

Don't start off with something that you're weak in.

I repeat, don't start off with something that you're already
weak in. If you're going to start marketing, fine, you definitely
need to learn some essential skills that will boost your
    profitability.

However, you have a huge asset on your case. You can code.

When you have a strength, leverage on that, and make sure
it floats. Look around the marketplace, the internet marketing
market "for internet marketers" is a very rabid crowd.

    Stuff like...
    -- Continuity scripts / Memberships...
    -- Wordpress...
    -- Programs, Plugins...
    -- Technical stuff, videos...

If you're good at them, you can sell your services for these
people. Set up a thread in the forum. Go to outsourcing sites
    and find a job.

You need 3 main elements to make it work.
    1) A big enough, starving market with enough money to pay
    2) A good enough bargain offer
    3) Back-end sales/addons/continuity/retention

I always tell people to never attack strongholds immediately.
Go the indirect route, and attack the fringe markets. Slowly
inch closer and build your market assets, and then when you
have the capability, attack the strongholds and claim some for
    your own.

It's the same for your content-locking, or all of those "ninja"
tricks... It's not very sustainable in my opinion, but some EGs
    share the 3 elements:
    1) A urgent nagging problem by many users
    2) Once I content-unlock this, you'll get the content (bargain)
    3) You get paid affiliate commissions at the back-end... Imo,
it'll be far better if you could lock them into a contact list like
    an email list.

Trial and error is hugely important. I'm not a betting man but I would be willing to bet that the top 5% of earners on this entire forum have "failed" more than that other 95% of people combined.

Trial and error is the best path to discovery
