High Quality and Unique eBook - Where to Publish it to Maximize Profit?

Hey guys,

I've been looking at prices of Kindle ebooks and the vast majority are priced $9.99. However, I was wondering, if one were to write a 200-300 page how-to ebook with high quality content, that solved a need and that was unique in its category, do you think that publishing it on Kindle for $9.99 would be cutting short its profit potential?

I am very knowledgeable in a field (it's a hobby, not IM), and my cousin blogs about it and he has become some form of internet reference for it. Funny thing is that I taught him everything, but I've never been interested in blogging. We have talked about writing a huge book that would cover everything about our field. My cousin also has the audience, he is getting 5 to 7 k unique visitors daily, and he is talented in writing.

Realistically, we'd rather price the book many times higher than the mere $9.99 of Amazon if we're going to write a book so big. But...

Do people pay more than the common $9.99 for a how-to ebook? Again, it'd be +200 pages long and would provide a solution. But we haven't seen many how-to ebooks outside of Kindle, and the ones we've seen (Clickbank) all look low quality.

If we used CB or E-Junkie, I guess we'd be sacrificing the "name" (Amazon published) for more profit per unit sold (say $24.99 instead of $9.99). We have no experience with CB or e-Junkie but we've seen a couple ebooks and they are all low-quality. However, I've seen low quality Amazon ebooks too so I'm not sure to what extent we'd benefit from the Amazon name. Do you know of any successful how-to ebooks on Clickbank or on e-Junkie?

What you folks think?

If your cousins site is getting 5-7k unique visitors daily I sincerely hope he's capturing emails.

If not...start now! You are much more likely to profit at a higher price point if you've demonstrated value upfront...although there are other factors to consider.

Market to that list at a higher price point & see what happens. The only way to know is to test & see how receptive your readers are.

If it doesn't pan out, you'll always have amazon.

I was selling a guide on Kindle for $17 and I recently lowered the price to $2.99 to see if it would increase or decrease the profit. Strangely enough, it lowered the sales volume per month.
