$800 dollars a day in App ads... Dang...

In App Purchases VS Ads | Trey Smith App Blog

I'm probably late to the app party, but I just saw this guys website and he has a graph where he lays out his ap ad revenue.

It's interesting that he says the industry has moved on toward free aps with in-ap ads.

Looks like a pretty good time to be a game developer.

That post was nearly 8 months ago, so maybe it no longer holds true.

According to those stats, assuming they are representative of a normal week, Trey is making around $250,000 a year. Take away expenses, staff salaries, affiliate payouts etc (70%?) and I don't think he's going to become a millionaire any time soon from his apps.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he had become a millionaire from his IM products about how to become an app developer.

Do you have (tens of) thousands of dollars to invest in an app that might not give any ROI?

Most people don't have the necessary skills/experience to create and markets an app but they buy the dream

"Get my $1,997 course, become an app developer overnight (it's easy!!!) and become the next Steve Jobs/Bill Gates/Angry Birds . . ."

That more or less sums up the IM market - make more money selling the dream than living the dream.

Amish Shah is one of the first Internet Marketers that left IM in favor of app development. This is a great video in which he explains the methods used to monetize free downloads. He also covers the entire 'research' process used to develop future 'high-ticket' apps.

Well, Trey Smith is Frank Kern's cousin, and they usually work together on new strategies and income streams. And Frank Kern is the one that made Amish Shah a millionaire; so perhaps Trey, has some 'undercover' knowledge we might not have at this point.

Anyhow, free app development is the future list-building.

    Cheers!

I think that Mobile Apps have a lot of potential, however, making a substantial amount of money is probably much harder than most think.

You have to remember that these guys talked about here, are some of the best in their field.

The company making "$700,000 per DAY" has 2 Apps in a Top 10 Category.

    About treysmith
... He currently has over 5,500,000 downloads on iOS ...
So if you can get to 5 Million + downloads, you may be able to make that "$800 dollars a day" figure that Trey does.

(Think 5 Million sales of a cheap $1 eBook = $5,000,000 | Not easy to achieve)

It's not that easy to get that type of traction. These a lot of competition out there already in the Apps market.

    [Update]:
Don't let what I said hold you back from making an App.

If you have a great idea for an App, then go for it!
If you just enjoy creating Apps, then go for it!

If you don't have much experience with Apps, Gaming, Mobile, etc... Then just trying to jump on the App bandwagon to make some Quick & Easy money, may not be a good idea.

If Apps or Game Developing is your passion, then don't let anything hold you back.

I wish you the best in your venture SergeLight.

However, it's misleading to think/say that this niche is in it's early stages.
      It simply matured very quickly.

Most apps don't make enough money to break even, report says | Nooga.com

"It is extremely difficult to get noticed in the App Store. There are literally hundreds of thousands of apps sitting there, waiting to be discovered, with thousands more being poured into the system every day."

Apple often boasts that the App Store offers users hundreds of thousands of apps to choose from. But while the incredible variety may benefit consumers, the mature market can make it more difficult for small developers to get noticed.

"Over the years I have seen visibility of applications I've worked on greatly reduced," developer Pat McCarron told Ars. "Right now your app is likely not going to be found if you never break the Top 100 or Top 200 lists. Users won't navigate forever down the list of top apps to find yours sitting lonely at the bottom."
My business partner and I were considering to move into Apps a while ago, but we didn't pursue it.

We are awesome as a Developer/Designer team, but we didn't have much experience in Mobile.
The market would be mostly saturated by the time we got the hang of developing good Apps.

We decided to continue focusing on the businesses that we were already getting success at, rather than chasing shiny new objects that are getting media attention, for now (the Apps bandwagon).

Like I said before though, it Apps are truly your thing, don't be afraid to go for it.
Like any other business, there is a high % of failures involved.

What I feel makes the Apps Market especially difficult,is the way that the Apps are arranged.

The Apps on those Top 100 Lists get mostly all of the traffic.

I think that it's easier for a new Website to be discovered as opposed to a new App.

Sounds like a good strategy worth trying.

    Guys,

Though most money is being earned by game apps however if you really want to take your share of apps business, then switch to info apps.

Consider creating info apps and count the earnings from it like 'adsense earning'.
Personally, i am in info apps and created 1000's of apps for me and my clients (only info app, like an ebook app). They sell very well and one app keeps on making you sales again and again.

Rather investing chunk of money in developing 'one' game app to see it pass or fail, invest in info apps and do it every day. Creating info app would take you 20-60 minutes (depending on your previous experience) and consider one info app as 'niche targeted website with adsense', once you create it and upload it on Google play, it would make you sales almost every day (depending on your niche).

Quality apps in bulk quantity (following all Google play rules) would make you consistent and stable earning for long time.
Do not invest in game app or other expensive app (until you are really sure about your research), rather create info apps and upload them regularly.

There's always going to be opportunities out there, I think the best thing to do is pick one thing and focus.

People make a killing in so many industries, one of my friends makes close to $100k a month selling outdoor furniture for example.

Pick one thing and scale up!
