Any Pro Bloggers Here?

I've created a blogging style website in my favorite sports related niche. I'm brand new to marketing, and blogging in general.

Can someone with some experience recommend me the proper course or advice I need to make sure my I'm doing everything right with my WP blog, and the proper marketing techniques (social media, etc) to start getting my blog some traffic.

I would greatly appreciate it,
Thanks.

Social media is something you must do. I would also recommend guest posts on other blogs in your niche. You can also use youtube videos and connect your blog to your channel there, as well.

Social media will do a lot for you if you do things right and really get your site known. The reason it can provide you with tons of traffic is because of the residual effects of networking and being passionate about your niche. I've found that the more I put myself out there in a niche I care about, the more recognition it gets in general.

In short, set your site up with the essentials (Facebook, Twitter, Google +) and actually update these pages with stuff that other sports fanatics are going to enjoy and hopefully share with others. Also, I'd recommend posting updates that aren't found on your site with these pages. The big guys in social media make it really easy to be on top of your news posts when speed matters most.

Other than that you'll want to make sure your site is structured in such a way that's easy for the search engines to categorize and index as well as logical and easy for users.

    Hi Darrett,

My advice to you is to narrow down a couple and no more than 3 types of marketing you would like to focus on. More than that tends to have you spread too thin and overloaded with tasks and no results. I have found that the 3 strategies below work the best for many niches:

#1 - Forum Marketing (find a forum that pertains to your specific niche and provide tons of value and info to the community...this builds relationship

    #2 - Solo Ads

    #3 - Guest Blogging

Good Luck with your new venture!!

Thanks everyone for all the blogging help! Once my site is filled and viewable for the reader, I will use these marketing techniques.

Social Media and Guest blogging seem like the best bet for trying to get started with some traffic.

Participate in forums in your sport's niche. Make some Youtube videos. After each blog post, ping your blog. Submit to blog directories. Submit your RSS feed to RSS feed directories (will only have to do both once). And find creative other ways to get traffic. Dont rely on traffic exchanges or other forms of non-targeted advertising.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm replying to your PM right now Margaret.

Randall - Great advice, would you mind breaking some of that down in layman's terms? If not it's fine I can obviously search on google, would just be great though if it could be broken down a little simpler to me since I'm a novice.

What is pinging my blog, and what are the best blog directories? I'll look up the RSS feeds right now. Thanks again, I apologize for my lack of education, I've only had my blog a week.

Start building connections before you really do anything else. There is a misconception that if you write incredible content that is very useful and get some back links you are good to go.
And the money will start rolling in.My reply is Nada !! A big Nada really!

Actually, you really need to align yourself with some of the bigger names in your Niche.

And as many have said you can do this by guest blogging on a continuous basis and do some very insightful post commenting that will get the pro blogger of that Niche's attention.

Eventually, in many cases he will start to acknowledge what you have to offer and say and start reading your articles at your site and possibly recommend it to his readers with a link and also ask you to guest blog.

It is really not a ' dog eat dog' world in Blogging. More like a 'dog help' world.

And in essence, stepping out of your comfort zone and approaching some of the big names in your niche is crucial in attaining success in blogging. It is intimating at first but through time and practice it will become second nature to you.

In the long run, if done correctly you can build a huge following that will eventually come to trust you and ultimately start to buy reputable products from you.

I really cannot stress all this enough !!

Thank you so much for the wonderful insight discrat. It's true, having quality content doesn't mean you're going to get any traffic. I just wanted to make sure I have atleast decent content before I try to get traffic. Guest blogging seems like an awesome place to start.

THIS. Especially the forums part. Join 5 or 10 forums. Some for your favorite teams, some for the whole league - whatever the sport is, get into the communities there. That is your biggest method of becoming authority as a blogger early on.

  • Hi Darrett, it's a good idea to open a sports related niche, because it always attracts much followers. By my side I will do the following:

    1) Social Bookmarking (once a month, buying it from Fiverr)
    2) Blog Commenting (do it by hand, or outsource it)
    3) Guest Posting (ask to other bloggers in same niche to post on your blog, and you poste on their blog)
    4) Create a FB page with connections to other social networks like Twitter, Google Plus, and more.
    5) Create traffic from your RSS feed (check on Google for that).
    6) In every article, ask to your readers to leave comments
    7) Put your opt-in form below any article you write to increase signups.

These 7 stepts, if done very well, and repeated when needed, can bring up your visitors rate to the roof. Doing them all, in a year brought my blog up to pagerank 3.

See you soon and good luck!

  • You should find something you like... then, if possible, find a sub-niche related to what you like. Sports, for example, is vast and too broad, you might want to home in on something specific.

But in any event, when you get your blog started, remember that your best business buddy is, indeed, Social media. A la Youtube and Facebook.

Great responses guys. I appreciate everyone going through some of the finer details and not just being vague.

Wow Shane thanks for taking the time to make a video for me, checking it out right now.

Creativist- Yes you're right, I didn't mean sports in general, I just said sports related niche because it's an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) site.

Shane, I feel like I should pay you for that incredibly informative video, lol. You seriously answered more questions than I even had, and I'll have to evaluate some of the stuff you said to figure out what I need to do. I'll PM you if you don't mind.

    Thanks so much!

Don’t forget to regularly update your blog with fresh content. Write real lessons, useful information, things that make people like to read your words. Good content is very important. It acts like a traffic magnet.
