I use WordPress for my sites, but these tools are in my "essential list"

They are all free too!

Niche Finder and Ultimate Demon I think are the only two pieces of software I've purchased.

I use Open Office for docs and spreadsheets.

I use Gimp for image editing.

I use Notepad++ for most html/php editing.

I use Visual Studio for programming.

I use FileZilla for FTP.

Other tools I usually end up writing myself... little utility tools that automatically generate websites, videos, etc.

  It has a word processor and the spreadsheet feature is in the cloud which means you can access it and share it from any computer with internet access. I deal with computers crashing and viruses all the time in my business. Plus I have multiple computers myself so I tend to lean toward clouds.

Saves a ton of time and money (by not needing to pay outsourcers and having to patch different systems together). No coding skills or techie knowledge needed either

Disclaimer - I work with FusionHQ, I'm very passionate about the software as it's helped me make thousands, saved me thousands on outsourcing costs and increased my speed of implementation. I'm a non techie too.

Some other good softwares: HighriseHQ (to manage contacts and relationships) and Roboform or Lastpass for storing account login details.

I use Basecamp for project management, Skype for communication, Gimp for photo editing. Twitter and Facebook are the top social media sites I go with when promoting our niche. Dropbox for online storing of files/data. And Time Doctor for time tracking - been using this software for almost 2 years now and I love the way it tracks my time.

I basically use seoquake, ranksignals, moz, puch2check, smallseotools, rankchecker, cuterankchecker, searchengineland, seoroundtable. These all are tools and addons. This will have more importance for an internet marketer.

Chrome plugins - Awesome Screenshot, Firebug Lite, BuiltWith, Web Developer, Page Speed Insight
Image Editing - Gimp, free online editors on web
Screencasting - Kazam
Marketing - I have built a software for myself to manage clients and emails and doing other marketing tasks.

I use a lot of the software already mentioned.

One additional one I like if you are a multi-channel seller:
ECC by Webgility. It's an order manager that I think is simple and a great value.
QuickBooks Ecommerce Integration, QuickBooks Connector, QB Integration, QuickBooks Integration: Webgility- Webgility

It nicely integrates with QuickBooks, which is probably the most common accounting software.

It's a nice combo if you sell less than 1000 products per month.
