One skill you'll have to learn that will be useful even half a century from now.

Lets say you're in a position similar to a prisoner where he isn't allowed to do anything he wishes and hes controlled by others.
Here though, you are restricted to learn something sitting in front of a computer that will be useful even ,lets say half a century from now(50 long years). Not something like self discipline but some skill online that will almost never end, again not something like checking your email or turning on the computer :p

You see what I mean,so let me know what each of you got in your head while reading this, although i think almost everyone would have to think a bit to come up with something.

Thank you

Yup. The best skill you can learn, yet the one most people overlook. Take a look at the number of threads in the copywriting forum vs this one.

Basically, if you can't get people to buy, game is over before it begins.

Writing good copy is key. Product creation is a close second. Writing good copy for your subscribers on your lists will be useful for much more than 50 years. I read all over this forum that building a list is the number one thing you should be doing. In fact I bit on this and built a list of 500 subscribers in about two months. But because I hadn't learned the skill of writing copy, I didn't make a single dollar from this initial list. It wasn't until I researched how to build relationships and write copy did I finally convert some o my efforts into profits.

      Fully agreed!

Product creation will definitely still be an extremely valuable skill to have in 50 years, and product creation is nothing without copy so I say they go hand in hand...

You could learn a lot of stuff in 50 years!!

I never thought I would say such a thing! Fluffy is right! You guys talking about writing good copy are DREAMING! Where have YOU been the last 50 years? There are about 5 groups right now in the english speaking world. YOU guys represent *****ONE*****! The MINORITY! The other 4 are growing FAST! Within 50 years, it is likely that they will take over even MORE. Words won't mean the same! They won't be spelled the same! Grammar will be different! Etc...! Oh SURE, I MIGHT be wrong about HOW bad it will be, but I don't think i will be. It seems to be picking up. We may PINE after the valley girl, or ebonics.(Representative of 2 other groups, BTW). Think of all that has happened in the past 60 years! How about the past 236 years? Most of that was in a virtual VACUUM! NOW, things are VERY different.

It will be interesting to see how it goes.

hahahha writing copy, that's so lazy and mediocre. Web development is key. Any monkey can write copy, your nothing online until you can build websites and apps plus graphics and illustration. Online marketing is all about marketing and web development not copy, that's expected.

No. web development can always be farmed out. Writing good copy is a hard earned skill that, frankly, most cannot develop. Copywriting is selling.

I was originally just going to say that selling is the one skill that will always help the most. But online, copywriting is selling. Technical skill can always be hired out to smart people. But high level selling is rare.

The ability to communicate will always be prized. Those that can communicate well will get what everyone wants. ...the most attractive spouse, the best things money can buy, prestige, etc.

Writing good copy will always be prized. It does not matter what that copy is... articles, stories, sales copy, etc.

No matter what the government or economy, those that can get along with and influence people will do better than those who can't....even those who can't in a flourishing economy.

Everyone loves a good story. If you can make it interesting to me, I will read it; and I may buy something from you!

I honestly believe there is nothing you can learn now that will be useful in 50 years. By that point there will be quantum computers and advanced systems in everyones house. There is literally no way to tell how, or even if an internet marketing world will even exist as it does today.

Technology only advances as long as it serves the needs of the population. It doesn't advanced just to advance. It has to serve some purpose.

And because it has to serve a purpose, even if it is a quantum computer (don't know what that is) if there are people using that new more advanced technology then you can be there will be business people, sales people, marketers who will be looking for ways to cash in on that use.

As for me what skill do I think?

Well I can't just settle on one but it would have to be two.

      Lead Generation

      and

      Lead Conversion

In 50 years we'll (metophorically of course) be doing jobs which don't yet exist. But reading and writing will still be fundamental. Copywriting, important; yes. Just writing without expletives would be a great start (even today for many!).

The ability to sell is an ancient art and will be as long as
time shall last. Most people have already pointed to
the fundamental skill of copywriting and it's hard for me
not to agree. Most marketers think it's a basic skill
needed especially by internet marketers even if you
don't choose to be a copywriter.

I'm still surprised by he number of responses who chose
    copywriting anyway.

Given the rate of technological advancement in just the past 50 years, given what we have now, who can say what we'll have available in another 50 years time?

Although many here are saying copywriting will never go out of fashion, whilst I tend to agree with this, who the dickens knows?

I tend to imagine in 50 years time you'll probably have 3d holographic teleportation devices which based on all the input given to a central computer mainframe over the previous decades will be able to automatically read your mind and will enable anyone to be in any part of the part of world simultaneously.

In other words in two or more places at precisely the same time.

Imagine a networking conference taking place in London and New York on different subjects at the same time on the same day.

At the press of a button whilst you're vacationing in Sydney, you'll be able to send two versions of yourself to each meeting to interact and connect with the other 3 dimensional holographic images in attendance instantly.

These 3d holographic images of you will be able to 'read your mind' based on past behavior and will be able to ask questions of their own accord and answer questions too or indeed will be able to give fully fledged lectures to the participating 'audience' holograms globally.

You very well could have devices 50 years from now which anticipate your answers and solutions in advance and automatically process these completely for you on your behalf.

Telehuman holographic (telepresence) 3D video imagery which can not read your mind here in the present but act as a double of you in real time, to be sent anywhere at your command, with all the data being sent instantly back to you, so you can feed or reprogram your answers or solutions accordingly.

What will never go out of fashion for certain is programming knowledge. This will definitely be around for the foreseeable future.

      Smoking hot,

      Mark Andrews

I agree with Michael. We have no idea how far ahead (or how backwards) technology will be in 50 years. Evolvement is the key. The industry & people that move forward are always the ones that can see an opportunity & jump right on it.

It's not going to be copywriters. The standard pay for most writers today is a penny a word.

I see trends and agendas being pushed to catch on. If they are achieved:

    1. People will all be speaking/writing a sort of pidgin, possibly within 50 years!
    2. Most computers will be dumbed down and come round robin to dumb terminals.
    3. Houses will shrink to about 1/5th the size of an old small poor persons starter home.(HERE, such starter homes sell for $10K-$15K(FULL PRICE!!!!!!), and they are almost 5 times the size of apartments now being offered!)
    4. The average skilled job may require a masters degree.(They won't be ANY better though!)
    ICSM....

YEAH, both 1 and 2 were shot down in several countries, but they are STILL moving ahead. Look at all this talk about "the cloud". It is simply the next step to get to #2. The computers are here, and the standard high end computers are devolving to a degree. #3 are being widely offered!

Another thing too, tey are trying to KILL IM! Want an example? Let's try amazon in indiana! Indiana wanted amazon to come. Amazon said no way. So Indiana created a sweet deal INCLUDING the deal that has been a custom for like 100 years or so, NO sales tax for customers not known to be in the state, etc... On the internet, that morphed to no sales tax. OK, amazon went there. Indiana INSISTED that they pay tax. Amazon said no, and indiana backed down. NOW, they passed a law and, as of next year, amazon will have to pay tax. The MILLIONS from the business being in indiana UNDER FALSE PRETENSES, due to the indiana government, isn't enough!

B&M businesses claim that it hurts their business. Well, you know most computers etc... that I buy are LOCAL! I plan to shop TODAY! If they want to charge internet businesses sales tax, they should standardize it or at LEAST come out with a national list and national account distribution. One computer I want to buy only cost like $20(~4%) less on amazon. With shipping, delays, possible problems, etc... that is not worth it. If I buy it, it will likely be LOCAL!

I started with bodybuilding.com and amazon NOT because they were cheaper, but because they referenced more, and shipped.
