Word Press question...

I am new to blogs and that they can do. I was going to put up a website offering my autodetailing services but i could not find a suitable website template, so i decided on doing a blog. I think that it would make it alot more personal. Now, if i was to build a blog for my main website, could i seo it the same as a website? Not sure if i can edit the page and put the title and meta tags and all that good stuff. would you recomend me doing just the blog?

    You'll need these two plug-ins, as a start, for your "self hosted" WordPress blog:

    1) All in One SEO Pack
    2) Google XML Sitemaps

    After you install and configure both of these plug-ins then register your domain in the Google WebMaster tool and submit your sitemap.

    There's more, like pinging and keyword consideration, but the above items are critical to start in my opinion.

      Yes, in fact it's actually quite easy with certain plugins...

      I use:
      1. Platinum SEO
      2. Google Sitemap

      I use several others, but this should get you started...

      I also change my permalinks structure to /%postname%/ so my keywords are also in my post url...

    Both posts are excellent - Wordpress is very Google friendly out of the box, the plugins mentioned will make it even better.

    Lastly, I like to use a simple theme that puts my post titles inside <h1> tags and shows the content near the top of the source code that google sees.

    Google loves Wordpress and if you optimize your posts around the keywords for your niche then there is no reason you can't easily get to the top of Google - particularly if you do some offpage SEO work as well (article submisson, etc etc)

    There are a number of plugins that will take care of your meta tags and make sure you implement that suggestion to change your permalink structure. Having keyword rich titles and then those appearing in the URL's really help your Wordpress rankings significantly.

    If it is an autodetailing service - make sure you include all the locale keywords relating to the area you provide a service to as those are likely to have little competition and you can very quickly get to the top of the search engines for it.

    WP Auto Tagger
    Auto Social

    I think anyway. Is there anymore that I should include? I just want to be able to get to the top of the SE asap. It will not be that hard because of the local keywords I am tageting are not that difficult.

    I am using:

    All-in-One SEO Pack
    Google Analytics for WordPress
    Google Sitemap Generator
    and Sociable

    You should also consider getting WP-DBManager. Mistakes happen, and this plugin will allow you to backup all of the posts, comments, settings, etc. with the click of a button. You can then save it to your hard drive and be prepared if disaster ever strikes.

    Also, I'm very sure you'll find it helpful to browse the WordPress plugins directory or do a Google search for "<insert blog super power here> wordpress plugin" (e.g. "use ajax for posts and comments wordpress plugin").
