Listing directories are still profitable?

Hi guys,

today i was searching for the web and found a very interesting Listing Drectories solutions that will include articles, events, classifieds, banner ads and zip proximity search. This solution is provided by eDirectory and its not cheap.

So i was wondering to startup with an Internet marketing Directory since the themes are very appealing.

But looking a bit about it there are so many listing directories out there that i believe it will be difficult to get profit.

I know the business model starts with free listing, then some premium listings and banner ads.

But this will require a lot of traffic, i know IM has huge traffic but in the end do you believe this kind of business in nowdays worth it?

    Not sure that general listing directories are particularly viable anymore. However, I know specialist ones are because I make money from one. Not prepared to say what it is here, but if you have expertize in a particular field, and build an information directory that knocks all the competition dead then you will get traffic, and traffic = money. Hope this helps

    Listing directories haven't worked well in awhile. It's hard to get placement and traffic for a site with so much competition. Someone has to really like your directory brand and want to return to visit. I'd suggest going with something else.

    You really just need to find your focus. There may be 1000s of directories out there, but among those are some people who make a regular income that they can live on. You don't necessarily need a directory that has a done of bells and whistles. You just need a directory that does something very well. Maybe it lists businesses in a city or area, or it lists products for sales by local businesses, or it fills a niche (bungee jumpers) well. Our script is considerably less than the others mentioned but I believe has been around far longer. It's battle tested and popular.
