is squidoo deleting legit lenses?

Hi,

I heard months ago that some 2.0 sites are deleting pages that are legit and obeying the rules, then at that time people are saying "better to build our own web property"...

Well, now do you know if squidoo or any other web 2.0 is still deleting lenses/ pages that are legit?

thx

I don't really hear about legit lenses being deleted. You can get your lens unpublished for breaking any rules including:

    - Using images you don't have permission to use or not attributing your images.
    - Writing about any of the many topics they consider spammy.
    - Creating overly promotional lenses or lenses with very little content.
    - Buying likes, blessings, or traffic.
    - Having duplicate content on your lens. If someone steals your content your lens may be temporarily unpublished until you file DMCA notices.

I wouldn't doubt that they are. They shut down a couple of mine.

      Not the case with mine.

      - Writing about any of the many topics they consider spammy.
My lenses weren't on any of their prohibited topics.

      - Creating overly promotional lenses or lenses with very little content.
      Nope. Weren't overly promotional.

      - Buying likes, blessings, or traffic.
      Nope. Not at all.

      - Having duplicate content on your lens. If someone steals your content your lens may be temporarily unpublished until you file DMCA notices.
      Not that I'm aware of.

Squidoo was unwilling to tell me what was wrong with my lenses. When I inquired, all they did was point me to their TOS and say it was in violation. And then they put that big ol' "EVIL DOER!" message on the lens, basically accusing me of being some sort of "evil doer" whilst not being able to tell me what the issue was. My feeling is that if they had reason to suspend it, there was a reason for that suspension and they should be able to tell me what it is so that it can be corrected. Pointing me to a TOS with a laundry list of potential reasons, none of which appeared applicable to my lenses, does me no good.

At any rate, it was a good lesson. If you're going to put time and effort into building an informative site or page, do it on a web property you own and control. Then you don't have to worry about your work going to waste because some third party site decides to take it down due to unspecified alleged violations.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Not that I am aware of - as long as your lens passes the filters, it should stay live, unless it gets reported.... The filters on the other hand can be a real pain - you can have 100% legit lens that triggers them and you will have to keep editing until it gets published

Loads of my HubPages got unpublished because they "changed their rules". You're asking for trouble by relying on 3rd party websites - make your own!

HubPages is entirely different story, I stopped using them long time ago, simply stay away from them

Not so. In many ways (and especially in the ways being discussed in this thread) it's actually a very similar story. And for the same reasons.

This. This was the post that people need to read. But the one that many will choose to ignore. Those are the people some of whom will end up having "accidents" and each typically imagining that they've been "terribly unlucky". All of my lenses are fine and have been since I made them. They get great traffic, too.

Generally when I see people saying their legit 'this or that' has been deleted I tend to assume it's because it wasn't offering value, or was an outright scam. I've yet to be wrong.

Nobody ever posts, "Help my worthless scamming drivel has been deleted!"

I had only one lens blocked first and deleted later. I had posted the same content in a different place.

Squidoo is great. But, as Alexa keeps saying again and again, you have to think bigger than that.

At this point, my lenses served their purpose. I am on first page, position 4, for my keywords with MY site. If they kill my lenses, I don´t care one bit.

I have not seen squidoo deleting lenses. I have read comments about many getting locked recently from people that put too much content that was else where on the Internet.

Just make sure that squidoo is just one spoke in your earning machine and use it to build to better things with your own sites and blogs.

There are many examples of people on this forum who have woken up to their lenses being deleted, just take a look around (or refer to Alexa's post).

Their "rules" are constantly changing, so if you don't want to be locked, read over them frequently so you don't wind up like so many others who rely on these types of sites.

Not that I've seen. My clients' lenses that we build have never been deleted. Getting published, now that's another story.

Just don't break their TOS, at least not that blatantly I have an account for 5 years, and although I now only have 3 lenses, none of them got deleted (I deleted them myself, because they were crap )

Just check out my Google+ profile, that's all :) WHAT? You were expecting some kind of a sales pitch ???

Thing is... the TOS changes from time to time. So a lens that were ok, can become a bad boy any minute.

It is easy though to get into the spirit of squidoo, what they want. All the changes are corrections going toward that goal.

I don´t love the concept of having to post completely unique content, but the platform works for me so I go with it.

Sometimes people are not aware of posting rules and they unknowingly get their lens removed like one of my friend use to add images on his lens simply by searching on google images he didn't know about copyright and all that stuffs but when his lens got deleted then he realized his mistake.

And sometimes people are fully aware of them, take great care over them, and still get their lens removed.

And sometimes the rules change and thousands of people find their lenses locked overnight (as has happened twice in the last three years).

That's what happens when you host your pages on someone else's site and let them make up, change and interpret all the rules, and "share" your money with you, rather than being in control of your own business.

This thread tells a story: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...en-locked.html

Squidoo definitely deletes lenses... even very high-quality lenses with all original, high-value content. It sucks because you can spend weeks building a fantastic lens, get it ranked in Google, get it into a "Top 100" category list on Squidoo... and then have it get locked/deleted because of their horrible "spam" filter. If you even mention a phrase like "belly fat" (or even the word "belly" I believe) it triggers the filter and you can easily lose all the work you did up to that point. And it's obvious the people they have reviewing flagged lenses are complete idiots and/or too lazy to actually read and properly evaluate content.

The bottom line: do NOT put a lot of effort into putting really good content on Squidoo. Save it for your own sites and just use Squidoo for backlinks.
