Is this a good site to have an email list on?

Hello,

I have a overall dog blog that I write about anything to do with dogs. I know they say niche blogs are good but I like my overall dog blog. I was wondering if I should start a email list that offers good dog products and stuff interesting to check out. What do you think?

I definitely agree! The dog niche is an evergreen, particularly so here in the UK. Get your list up and running quick!

BTW I've tried a few autoresponders and find aweber the best.

Use a plugin like WP-Subscribers to add opt-in forms/ lightbox forms on the site.

It allows you to chose which pages you want the forms to display on.
Even has a built in analytics system to see which ones are performing the best.

But don't you need something like Aweber to send emails?

I would start generating leads. I would have started selling to visitors as soon as the blog went live.

I know I got scared though. Didnt think it would be doing good as it is. I start alot of things and dont finish but I love doing this blog. Should I use aweber? Because I dont have an email marketing client yet.

If you are doing ok with the site you are doing ok. Personal opinion, I'd at least change the header. That's very WP 2010. If you want to see what I did to clean up early WP PM me and I'll email you my site's link.

I just bought a course yesterday on how to get forum traffic, but she shows how to set up the perfect capture page. Maybe you should take a look at it, I think it can help you tremendously, and yes aweber is great to use they have a 1$ trial..

    I definitely would.

It's a very competitive niche, of course, but that's because it's one in which huge numbers of people regularly spend money.

It's a good site, Anna. You could easily replace the "opt-in to be notified of updates" box with a prominently incentivized opt-in with which you offer some sort of canine-oriented "free report" in exchange for visitors' email addresses. The "free report" needs to brand yourself and your site, though, and to be part of an overall continuity process specifically designed to ensure a high open-rate for the subsequent email series. This thread may be helpful to you: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982

Do you make a lot from the contextual advertising you have on the site? I ask because (although you can easily test this for yourself) removing it would probably increase average time spent on the site, average number of pages viewed and return visits.

Regarding autoresponders, both GetResponse and Aweber are particularly good, but the important thing is to avoid using a "free autoresponder".

There's a big discussion about autoresponders, all together in one thread, right here: Which is the best autoresponder/list host? (Official never-ending debate thread)

Freebies is a great way to gather leads! I really don't see any reason you shouldn't do it. And I agree that the site looks good. A perfect mix of funny and informative.

I would consider removing the sample page though, unless you really are a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night and you do in fact work at the XYZ Doohickey company

There's nothing wrong with pitching some products to your subscribers either, as long as you moderate yourself a little. Being a dog site, you are most likely dealing with down to earth people. Give them some value for their time reading your newsletter and slip a sales pitch in once every week or so.

also, personally I preffer aweber, though from what I have heard, GetResponse is also a good choice.

      Hello all,

Thanks for the great info. About the ads on my site....the infolinks ads brought in just a few cents but I have been debating whether or not to keep it on or not because it does seem to messy up my posts and make them look more money making than eye grabbing for people to read. What do you think?

The banner ads at the bottom of each post are adbrite ads. They bring in some good cents at time. Not alot but it works. Was thinking of keeping those.

The two boxes on the side are from cj.com and I may keep them. Not sure yet, no money from them. Maybe switch them around.

Get rid of them, they are not worth messing up your readers experience on the site. The money will be in the list
