I think wordpress is much better! It has, thousands of plugins + themes. For security you can use so many plugins, to secure your WP site. Seo wise, again there are so many, great seo plugins for WP.

I'd take a self-hosted WP blog over blogspot anyday!

Wordpress hands down. You want to control your blog, with blogspot your site can be taken down without warning...

Wordpress. You can use plugins like WP Supercache to increase the speed of your blog/site and that is just one of many. Same goes for security plugins. Your options are pretty much limitless.

    Hi

I think OP means Wordpress.com blog vs blogger. Not hosted domain with WP CMS.

In either case your content will be "owned" by the platform and you can't back it up and restore elsewhere if there is a problem.

That being said I would give the edge to blogspot. It is owned by Google so may get a little more Google love in the SERPs.

I use blogspot but not wordpress so I am only going by what I read, but I have heard here that wordpress.com can be more difficult to monetize than blogspot. More people seem to get kicked off wordpress.com for minor transgressions than blogspot. But that is just anecdotal evidence.

I guess it depends on what you want to do for content/monetization/etc.

Oh sorry, I thought you were asking to compare the blog platforms.

In that case for sure go for having your own hosted site.

I started with a blogspot blog to get my adsense approved. When I signed up it was an automatic option. I primarily use hosted sites now but my old blogspot blog is still up.

Wordpress. Astonishing what can be done with it, and a myriad of free and premium plugins and themes. A little somethin' somethin' for everyone as they say.

    Hi ArielT!

In terms of loading time, they are quite the same. In terms of plugins and other features, Wordpress is the king. However, blogspot is much stricter than wordpress when it comes to linking. It can detect spam and ban your account not like in wordpress. When it comes to ranking, blogspot has quite the edge as it is owned by Google.

I'll have to disagree here. I recently made 2 free blogs with the same sub-domain name. I started writing in the blogspot one, and a few weeks later, despite I had content in the blogspot and none in WP, the WP had outranked my blogspot for the keyword in the domain name.

My experience is different. I made a site with WP, but most pages are only ranking about page 2 or 3 yet blogspot blogs with no original content are scattered over page 1 and 2. Im certain Google gives Blogger a ranking advantage over a self hosted Wordpress site. Maybe it's because of the built-in SEO?? Probably more likely because of domain authority though.

Yeah maybe blogspot has an initial leg up on wordpress cause of it's relation to google. but in the long-run you can't beat wordpress. Just have so many more options and can do so much more with it than you can with blogspot.

Wordpress running on your own site. Use good security plugins and strong passwords and you won't get hacked. Get your themes from a reliable source. Some free themes have code that let others into your site.

I'm for Wordpress too! Wordpress works for me. Never had been hacked or got problems with it. Also, though wordpress doesn't have connection with google like blogger does, my wp still ranks so not a problem at all if you're going to consider that aspect.

Also, I'm more comfortable with wordpress. It has tons of plugins and themes. Just so many to choose from. However be careful always when putting/adding things to your site. Make sure that what you add is always from a reliable source so you can make sure no hackers around can easily get into your site without you knowing it.

Have a Higer Security password and I think you'll be good to go.
    Goodluck on your business!
    Cheers!

WordPress is so much better although I set up on Blogspot originally and it took a long time to take over in the rankings when I built a new site using WordPress, and original was pretty poor site with only a handful of posts on it!

I like to use blogger to start a free site, but once I pay for domain I use wordpress. I think with Google ,blogger is better to get your site ranked. I have actually had a blog from blogger rank really fast with a high searched key phrase.

For security consideration, blogspot should be more securer than self-hosted Wordpress, because the blogspot provider will handle the software upgrading, security protection, etc.

For self-hostd Wordpress, you'll have to do them all yourself.
