Down with Google... Do you agree with Bing?

Browsing the internet this morning, I came across something about Bing attacking Google...

and felt it would be appreciated here.

Looks like Bing started an all out war with Google. Is it dirty?.. not in my book...

Personally I like Bing a little better than Google and use it on my iPad.. A lot because Bing pays you points (which I just cashed in for a $5 starbucks card by the way! Woot Woot!!)

I've been a fan of google Since switching from alta vista I don't know how long ago.

But lately I am pretty disappointed in their search results when I am actually trying to research something that also has market potential.

they seem to prioritize their own services a little too much. Adword placements, and annoying youtube videos, then spammy sites. Maybe the crap sites have adsense on them, not sure about that, I use ad block plus and never see any adsense.

At times, going to the library seems like it may have been a faster alternative to weeding through those Google search results.

those points Bing is giving out don't come without strings attached, think if we as marketers could get the data they are with an opt-in.

I don't use bing so I'm unsure of all the info required to sign up for their points program. But just from what you've said, they're getting your name, email & physical mailing address, shopping interests. Many stores also rely on their frequent shopper programs to track customer data, and market them.

I tried registering with Bing Ads. Well 12 failed captchas later I admitted defeat.

Then I emailed support and their mailbox was bouncing mails.

Sheesh, all tech companies do good stuff, get big, then die.

I'm generally happy with Bing's results and sometimes find that Bing Maps is better at finding local addresses (though Google Maps usually wins for locations outside the US).

Among my non-internet-savvy friends, Bing and Google are generally seen as "they're all the same", and they'll usually use whatever is the browser default.

In that sense, the biggest things MS needs to do if they want Bing to gain ground is to improve IE and push windows phones. The line between the Search Wars and the Browser Wars is thinning, and being the default option on the majority of devices is key.

Nothing wrong with Google chasing the buck, but there is something seriously wrong with the way that handle this - they seem to keep spreading lies and half-truths just so they can increase their earnings and don't seem to care how that affects anybody else. As for Bing - I wish they grow big and at least a few more search engines so none can really corner the market like Google has, this would make the SE game a bit more fair and probably more lucrative for all of us.

I still like Google, but Google has been acting real funny when it comes to marketers. I hope Bing can grow and give Google a run for it's money. I am tired of Google doing what Google wants...

I think all big internet companies have a limited shelf life. A switch from AltaVista has already been mentioned. I remember switching from Yahoo to Google. These decisions were only made a dozen years ago.

Some will go because of generational issues. Kids won't want to share social media with their parents, and are already coding Facebook's demise. Others will bury themselves through stupidity and greed (Google).

I guarantee Google will be nowhere in ten years time and replaced with something much better, and personally I can't wait for the day.

I don't know about them being gone in 10 years, but I'd certainly like to see some more competition from Bing. I agree that Google really prioritizes its own properties too much, especially after some of the big updates this year. Youtube videos are EVERYWHERE!

I totally agree with you, Google tend to focus more on their short term earnings and interests instead of everyones experience surfing the web. For marketers they have made it worse. I think that outside US Google has almost 90% of the market so Bing has a long way to go before they are any real threat to Google.

I personally would go with Bing in making searches. However as a marketer, everyone would prefer Google over Bing because of how much traffic they will bring to your page if you rank on their first page with a popular keywords.

I sometimes use Google and Bing at the same time for many different purposes!

I get only a tiny amount of traffic from Bing, but that could soon change. Key is who will win the phone wars. Most searches are on phones now. That will determine the shape of things to come...

nice arguments there.. personally, I think Google is losing it focus and getting slightly arrogance with their authority they are having.. my search results aren't as good as before.. oh well.. but too used to google now..

Bing is getting more and more like Google with regard to accepting ads.
They are bothering with the landing pages and its content, don't accept exit pops either in your LP and in the Sales Page. Too picky for my taste, and the ROI isn't very high considering their increasing PPC prices.

Yeah Bing Ad's ROI isn't high at all. Strangely enough, it works well for me in some niches, and then in other niches.... i might get like 1 subscriber for every 100 clicks to my squeeze page.

I'm waiting for Bing to open up their own adsense-type program to siteowners and bloggers instead of just ultra heavy hitters. I think that would give Big G some reason to make their service a little more friendly.

I use both SE's, and often find what I like on Bing a little better, at least for the searches made. Time will tell just how competitive they want to get.

      Competition is good for consumers.

If Bing can grow as big as Google, then they will definitely have an edge. But right now, their search engine does not really put out the results people are looking for unless you are performing a local search.

The default search engine for Chrome is Google. Bing and Yahoo are built in and can be chosen in the settings though if you want. A browser designed and owned by Google wouldn't choose a rival platform as the default search engine, think about it.

And nice of you to try belittling me with "think about it" but there are many reasons NOT to use Google as a default search engine. Think about anti-competition law for starters.

In fact, you're actually wrong on this count. Go "google it" and see for yourself.
I wasn't trying to belittle you at all, merely pointing out that you are incorrect and to think about the logic behind your statement. A search engine company choosing a rival platform for their own browsers default search engine makes no sense. I have Googled it and you are wrong i'm afraid. It looks like you accidentally changed the search provider at the top when you first set it up.

      From Google:

When you launch Chrome for the first time after installation, a bubble near the omnibox appears. It emphasizes that you can search directly in the omnibox with the default search engine, Google Search. If you'd like to change your default search engine, click Change to set a new one.

It would be interesting to see how bing acts towards advertisers if they were as big as google. Microsoft doesn't have a great reputation for fairness in business.

Well, both Bing and Google the awesome PPC networks, don't care much for Bing's search engine results but as of lately, I'm routing for Bing. Google has been a real pain these days when it comes to SERPs. I'd really like to see Bing level out on Google.

Competition between these 2 giants is a good thing - especially for us marketers. I've been noticing Bing targeting Google in all their advertising, should be great to see the statistics of users in a year or two.

    Hey,

Last two links don't seem to work anymore!

First video was interesting...kinda like the run up to presidential campaigns where they just attach each other! lol

I do like Google for some of the general searches I do. I personally find they give me more relevant search results, that are useful to me.

Not tried shopping on Google, as I usually know what I want and where to buy it, so just end up searching for reviews rather than places to shop.
