Best type of traffic to build a list?

Hi guys, i'm using forum posting and YouTube to build my list. I started yesterday. Before I go any further I would just like to know if I'm building my list with the right type of traffic? I know YouTube traffic converts but not sure about forums because I never tested it.

    Hey adam

Are you using google analytics? That's an easy way to see where your traffic is coming from.

The way to know if you are building your list with the right traffic is if you are building it in the 'right' locations.

You probably wouldn't want to market IM to a forum of bodybuilders

These 2 sites are great for helping you find more forums to target your traffic.

    1) Boardreader - Forum Search Engine
    2) The largest Message Boards and Forums on the web!

    Hi Adam,

Forums are great to build your list. Just make sure you never spam them just to get people to visit your link. Give value.

Youtube is a great way to get some free traffic too. The key is to post great and informative videos and do this consistently.

    I would also write articles.

I would also suggest you learn everything you can about pay per click advertising and solo ads.

Traffic is always right. It doesn't matter where it is coming from as long as you are not using adsense. What matters in List building is the Placement on your website.

Social Media traffic is the best, forums and Facebook groups etc. I also still have some great success posting articles on authority sites. The articles have to be REALLY good though and it does take some work to find the sites that will publish them, but my last article got over 10,000 hits to my site.

best thing to do is set up a different web form for each traffic method and then when you get a sale you will know which traffic method it came from and after 30 days see which one is sending you the most buyers

blog traffic converts well for me

the problem is, even if you are using a good traffic source, if your sales pages suck or your email marketing is poor then you won`t convert anything anyway

The best type of traffic would be ppc, because visitors are actually searching for a specific thing. However it can be very costly. Social media traffic is the next alternative however this type of traffic lacks 'intent' because people on social media platforms are just browsing around and checking out friends photos. You might want to incorporate different traffic sources when trying to build a list.

How about one step better than PPC, organic traffic? Still searching for what you need but you don't pay for it. Find out what your niche is searching for, build your homepage to target the broad keywords, write posts for the long-tail keywords. Build some links and keep posting good content, the leads will come. Problem with seo is it a much slower process. But if you're patient, the return is much greater than PPC

As long as its targeted (your ideal customers) it's the "right" traffic. As far as the method or medium used to get the traffic, do whatever you enjoy most and are most skilled at.

I don't think there is such a thing as bad traffic, except maybe bots. Forum traffic is great, but you need to post in forums related to the niche you are targeting. Make sure to set up different lists for different niches, last thing you want to do is promote IM products to someone that is looking to lose weight

I think it really depends on the aims of your list. Are you trying to build a list of people who are into social media? Are you trying to build a list of people who are into social media who may buy your product or whatever you are trying to sell them? Are the people who watch your Youtube videos in a certain demographic? Are your videos in a certain niche. These are all crucial questions to consider when building your list. In other words, don't just build a list to build a list. You have to know why you are building it and how you will leverage it for your benefit. Once you know that, then you can think about other traffic sources and how to use those for your benefit.

If the aim of your list is not to convert prospects into buyer at some point in time, what's the point of building a list?

Turning prospects into buyers has to be your main goal.

I know some will say you have to build a relationship with your prospects...absolutely...but why are doing that? The answer must be to turn prospects into buyers.

Best traffic = High conversion rates. It depends on your market and hence affects the source of traffic. You need to match them. As mentioned earlier on, remember to track the conversion so that you will know which one is working. I would say, go for quality traffic.

All traffic is good traffic in my eyes though I find Youtube traffic converts well like you say so I'd continue with that. Forum traffic is good too. Social media traffic I haven't found to convert well, especially not Twitter. Paid traffic like banner ads and PPC have been decent for me too.

Everyone is giving you a different answer but the good answers all have something in common - they bring you targeted, qualified visitors.

Any source of traffic that lets you target people based on criteria - age, income, sex, weight, height, search terms, likes/dislikes etc. will be good for your list.

Solo Ads are good if the list is targeted and has the right demographics.

Facebook traffic is good if you target the right likes.

Forum traffic is usually by it's nature targeted since forum topics are market specific.

    etc. etc. etc.

Basically you need to diversify your traffic so figure out which source of traffic you are most comfortable with and do that.

You are on the right track. I'd add in article marketing/syndication and guest blogging. If the forums you are using have an article posting section, that's a great way to build a list.

As you move forward and get some members, you can also use solo ads and ad swaps to help build your list further.

For large volume of (freeish) leads = social media.
Best converting leads = article syndication.

The key thing to focus on is not just getting eyeballs to your site. You want to attract TARGETED traffic. This means people that have a real interest in the subject beyond mild curiosity.

If you want conversions, you need to attract buyers. All your marketing efforts needs to go into figuring out how to appeal to these buyers and give them what they want.

So, you're working on getting Youtube traffic. Okay. But, what is your pitch that will make them convert?

That's what you need to figure out.

Solo ads are a good quick way to quickly build your email list and the traffic is usually pretty good.

I would say the more responsive traffic tends to be from people who have already been exposed to some of your content such as a video or helpful blog post and thus some sort of relationship has already been established.

So I would say work at blogging and article marketing for long term quality traffic whilst doing more quicker methods such as solo ads as you go along.

You want targeted traffic...people interested in what your selling.

Paid traffic will get you the fastest results. You can try solo ads, or adsense, but for me the best / cheapest traffic is Facebook. Setup an advertising campaign and monitor it.

Free ways are to write a high quality article, then post it on scribd and other article directories.

Another way is to google guest blogging. Find someone that will allow you to post an article on their high traffic blog in exchange for a back link to your site.

The best type of traffic to build a list is paid traffic from, PPC and banners. The reason this is true is because you can target the traffic so that you know what the people are looking for and what they want to buy.

Youtube traffic is great but it is not very targeted and has a lot of Freebie seekers. It also takes a lot of time and is not a steady source of traffic for most.

Forum traffic is the better of the two because it is alot more targeted. For example lets say you are selling golf swing stuff. There is forums that the only thing they talk about is golf swings. So the traffic that is coming is very targeted.

But the best is still paid traffic because you put in the exact subject you want your list to be about. It is also very steady and there is a unlimited amount of it. The great thing about paid traffic is that it you can just go get more traffic when you want, unlike SEO, affiliate's, and youtube.

It depends on your skills and on the knowledge you have. For me the best traffic is the one I get in my resource box under all my EZA articles and under my blog articles (which are longer, I submit to EZA only a part of each long article I post at my blog). This traffic is very good because these visitors know who I am and they remain longer at my sites, and they become my subscribers. My RSS feed subscribers are also very good visitors.

My sites and blog get many good visitors who remain longer at my sites also through my Squidoo lenses (I have created 82 lenses, but only half of them generate traffic).

My blog gets a lot of traffic from Google but these visitors are nervous and they don’t read all my words.

Use file hosting like Mediafire and other fills hosting companies that let you advertise. You could also use social media and just give content they're going to join your list but what you should also do is get a pop up that will catch them. Also, you could also do ads wraps and solo ads. Forum marketing is the best cause you get to tell people about yourself to gain trust and your business.

From my experience fast traffic, meaning paid traffic is best. Not because of the quality maybe but it will give you fast results - you can get quick conversions, leads, sales.

It will allow you to test your main pages quickly, you will see what to improve whether its your blog, review site, sales page or squeeze page.

Which paid traffic - any you know what to do with and know how to convert - PPC, Facebook, solo ads, CPV or even traffic like adfly (yes there is a way to get value even from that).

Article posting can take a long time to work, there is no guarantee you will rank and then again you rely on Google for mercy. What if the website you use for article posting suddenly drops in Google, like Ezine Articles did?!

Forums can be a different matter and a lot more productive then article marketing, simple fact is you do not need more then a good 50 words per post and you're done, with articles you need at least 300 words article.

Now there are still ways you can post your article and be on page one of Google in 15 minutes but you really must know what you are doing and be one mean keyword expert to do it.

Some of the people here have said free some have said paid, I say use whatever you can that will give you results fast or you will get discouraged, lose the interest and give up.

You MUST get fast conversion...whatever that may be for you. Good luck!

Getting any targeted traffic is great and you should do what
    you can do starting out.

The BEST type of traffic will probably come from an email sent
to buyers of a product or service in the same niche recommending
    what you have to sell.

In other words doing a joint venture with someone who has a list
of buyers in the same niche or a related niche.

If you do it the right way,you can get loads of targeted traffic from forums.

You got to find the most popular ones (that allows signature link) in your niche.

Slowly turn your self into an authority figure in the forum by delievering long quality posts and be really helpful.

You can even embed your youtube videos to boost traffic, likes and comments on the videos (good for ranking)

Not from experience but from watching I believe there are just too many variables amongst each to really compare them.

There are people with a cult like following on Facebook who can build lists and sell products (because they have a unique product and a loyal fan base) and there are pretty rubbish groups and communities around non-sense that likely to very badlyd

    I don't test much. I'm too rubbish.

But sure you should just pick a method and then 'sift' through all that traffic by doing your best to get subscribers and your bust to find the buyers.

If you can get access to email lists of buyers -- better still, repeat buyers -- then I'd guess you're onto a major winner.
