I used to own several funny sites in the past and we used to monetize it through pop ups from CasaleMedia.

Perhaps ads, or maybe selling merchandise, such as v-card or physical merchandise. You could also have a youtube channel and use it as a platform for ads.

Or you could sell for cafepress and maybe collegehumor (depending on if you want to sell your own stuff or others)

The easiest way to monetize a funny picture site is to put up banners to CPA offers. You might need to explore different banners to see which convert, but I would keep it to some kind of giveaway, like an iPhone.

You could also put up banners to sell high gravity Clickbank products as an affiliate. Maybe weight loss or even some humor products.

The most lucrative would be to put up your own products or to try and get them onto a list.

The biggest problem in figuring out what to promote is that humor traffic just wants entertainment. They aren't targeted to any kind of niche. You could try rotating niches and see which convert the best. The more shocking, interesting, or controversial your banner/ad, the more likely one of your visitors might click on it to be further entertained (or to get a good freebie).

How much traffic is your site getting? You could always create your own information product and sell the funny pictures inside it.

Tshirt affiliates like tshirt hell or similar online shops. As mentioned All posters ( they have a humor section) create an Amazon store with the top 50 all time comedies lie animal house, vacation, super bad etc and comedy tv seasons like south park , family guy, American dad etc,

Funny picture sites would work out well with humorous products, funny shirts and other items. CPA offers and assortment of banners can also do well. To add more traffic to your site, you can also try a compilation video on YouTube and of course don't forget to place links to your website.

  • Website advertisements and affiliates are the ideas on top of my mind. But most of the people in entertainment sites do not click those advertisements, so probably the best bet is to bring popup ads to guests/non-members, and keep the sidepage advertisements to the Members.
Also, try adding VIP feature and give them unique functionalities and features. For example, for a site like 9GAG, VIP features such as allowed animated/GIF uploads, name color change, page post priorities, and stuff, will be a great bonus.

Check out Taboola and Outbrain... if you get their ads on your site you could immediately multiply your earnings. I've seen rapid revenue growth on one of my content-based websites by implementing these ads at the bottom of my posts as the CTRs are sky-high (the ads are begging to be clicked!!).

Many major sites (like CNN) even use this form of advertising.

But I hear it requires 500 K + monthly views to get approved in taboola or outbrain

  • You can add in-text context ads, putting links on keywords inside your website. There are plugins that do that automatically.
And then you can propose your own your own apparel, including TeeSpring T-shirts and other things like hats, stickers and things like that, that may be printed for low prices on the web.

Last but not least, you can even add some Amazon Associates products in banners, or page by page, as you prefer.

These are simple but working ways to monetize a "different" website out of the schemes.

Thanks so much and see you soon,
    Alessandro

I think you already got enough suggestions and ad network for your site.

From my 10 years experience I can say, no ad network will pay you more than 30% of adsense. Why you are looking for other ad networks? To make more money? Well, you are in the wrong way....

Don't use other ad networks along with adsense. It can decrease you earning. So, don't waist your valuable time searching for alternatives.

You better improve your site and drive more valuable traffic. It can increase your earning more than 200%

Is this an old website? Is the traffic good? I think you still have to focus on that first.

Popups would work very nicely on your site. Exit Popups for visitors who are on their way out of your site that link to a CPA offer would work.

    Hope this helps!

Try Content.ad its similar to the widgets you find with Taboola. anyone can sign up but they have to approve you application before you can start serving the ads. I been on it for a few days and it is actually comparable to adsense earnings.

The best way when your site is new is though affiliate marketing banners and links, they'll give you decent commisions. You'll need a pretty substantial number of monthly visitors for Adsense to be worth it. Once you get a following you can look into ads using things like Google's AdSense.. Another great way is having people create account and encourage them to sign up for a mailing list. Great way to advertise.

PM'd you a few useful links!

Hmmm through an image site and if you have enough traffic, you can find any good image software editor that has an affiliate program like photoeditx.com and promote it.

Ummm...funny pictures site...possibly lots of gamers there...without brazenly flaunting a single thing, frankly, ...points down to the signature below...lets talk sir.

Apart from that unabashed exploitation of this forum, I will contribute that you could invite users to upload "their" funny pictures, then move towards some sort of membership monetization. Voting privileges, stuff like that...couldnt charge much, but expose them to your superior service and good treatment. Things progress.

Have you thought of joining affiliate programs and posting those offers? Over time, you could track the results and determine exactly what your audience is after.
