Hi all,

I am just building up my social networking sites, inc. LinkedIn.
I would love to hear your expertise and experience on making new connections on LinkedIn that are relevant and valuable for building leads and sharing information in my niche.

What is working for you?
Please be specific... if you don't mind
Do you "answer questions," "ask to connect to folks you don't know," "join groups," "create a group..."

Thank you very much!
Nicole

I join groups in my niche and then I will post a little freebie give away. I will typically get hundreds of posts which results in people following me and I will also typically be the "best influencer" in the group (this is posted at the top of the group)

Smart. I've been fighting joining facebook for years, still haven't. It's honestly probably holding me back, I should take some time to set up an account. LinkedIn seems like a great thing though, signed up awhile back but didn't have a real plan for it. Your idea is pretty good.

    Hi Nicole,

I've had a Linkedin acct for years and have ignored it until very recently. I've read a lot about how to use it, etc.

I found this link at Wordtracker which was very helpful. It's about how to set up a professional (looking) profile at Linkedin.

How to set up a LinkedIn professional profile | Wordtracker

So I did that. I had about a dozen contacts. So I just made a bunch of requests for connections, and I joined about half a dozen groups relevant to my services. I also requested connections with people I don't know but are relevant to what I do. And I was surprised that most of them accepted my request.

I intend to be active in the group discussions and continue to build my network.

May be a good idea to form a group centered around your niche or what you do.

    Hope that helps some.

LinkedIn is a great source of targeted leads and traffic! Here is a strategy that works to get targeted traffic and leads...

Join groups in the niche you are targeting(dentist,chiropractors,etc...)
Once in the group, click on the "members" tab
That will bring you to the list of all the members of that group. On the left side there is a search box where you can search members by keyword. So if you wanted to contact owners of chiropractic clinics you would type "owner" in the search box.

That will find anyone that has "owner" or whatever keyword you chose in their profile.
Most people have a headline that reads something like...

    John Doe
    Owner at John Doe chiropractic

Now you have a list of owners to message...

So just hover over the right hand side of the column and you will see a link that appears and says... Send message.
Click that link and a message box will pop up and you can send that member a direct message.

The cool part is... This doesn't go against your daily message limit! As long as you are sending messages though the group!

I am not sure if I can do this but here goes, here is the link to the thread, I think you can view it but not post on it
To the moderators if I am doing somthing wrong let me know and delete this post

I pretty much ignore my LinkedIn account right now. Because I've been doing some freelance writing I've got a lot of SEO company type connections.

I've joined groups and answered a few questions before. Found this to be easy.

I get requests to be added to someone's network every now and then.

candress79 has some great information that I'm going to use.

Hi Nicole. Christopher is spot on with his advice if you are offering a service. If you are offering business opportunities etc, then FaceBook would be more appropriate. If you want to excel on linkedin professionally, then Christopher's advice/materials will be a huge help. I also know of a person who makes a living teaching linkedin strategies and has a training video which would give you some in depth techniques for positioning yourself on Linkedin. I don't have their info to hand but can look it up. And another person has done a Webinar on marketing effectively on Linkedin which he sells for $20. My linkedin url is Barry Williamson | LinkedIn Feel free to IM me. Best wishes. Barry

is this still true? messages sent to linkedin group members, where you are also a member, do not count against your daily linkedin message limit?
