You can use Camtasia for this purpose.

Camtasia is a good software for presentations and screenrecording, but when you need a bit more complicated effects and animation then it won't be good enough.

The software is secondary. What are your plans for content for the videos? This is the most important question and once you have an answer, then find the software.

It all depends on what you are going to make. You may use free online video services, but if you are going to make loads of videos and want quality and flexibility I would buy Camtasia. I´ve tried others, but for IM I think Camtasia is the best.

It depends on the type of video you want to make, animoto, cyberlink powerdirector, sony vegas, after effects, windows movie maker... I actually use each for different types of effects and rendering needed... Take a pick

As Kurt said, plan the purpose and content of the video first then the solution will be more clear.

Animoto is great for doing short, promo videos
Camtasia for doing how to videos with few effects
Sony Vegas is great for Chroma key and for adding effects to videos made in Camtasia and other applications

I use all 3 depending upon what I am trying to achieve.

Youtube video maker is also an option.

Videopad is free and pretty good. Depends what you want though. For screen capture, use camtasia, or alternatively camstudio which is free.

If you're looking for an easy yet effective way to create your promo videos, then I think it's worth trying Animoto, especially if your promo video is heavily image based.

I can't say whether it's the best or not, because I haven't really tried any other video creating software, but what I can say is that Animoto is easy to use and the finished videos end up looking really impressive.

You can sign up for a free account, although if you want to create videos that last longer than 30 seconds, then you have to upgrade. However, a free account is sufficient to get a feel of Animoto.

Like others have said, software is secondary - it's just a means to an end. The most important thing is the message you want to get across to your target audience. Decide what that is first, then you can work out how to get it across and what software you're going to need to do it. PM me if I can be of any assistance.

I simply use iMovie. So easy and very good to be imaginative with. Fun too.
