These are some of the basic lessons that every marketer should learn in approaching potential customers.

In email marketing, it is true that we may need to first get the permission of our prospects before we send them emails in order to make sure that we don't get in trouble for sending them messages.

Then again, we have plenty of companies that sell data and leads and yet most of the people that buy their data and use it for email marketing don't get in trouble.

It's important to remember that in performing lead generation that this is all natural. You don't really need someone's permission in order to send a simple message. Although it helps, most marketers just do email marketing how they do cold calling.

Permission-based email marketing is perfect for keeping in touch with prospects and clients for introducing products and services. However, a large number of people use email marketing to cold-contact businesses and consumers and to build awareness. If done correctly, your emails will most likely not be perceived as spam to the majority of recipients.

Also, everyone has to start somewhere in order to build a list and early-on the website traffic isn't enough to grow a decent list as quickly as cold-emailing. Not to mention the chance to also make a sale or new client with minimal time/expense.
