Tips to make solicitation e-mails sound less "spammy"?

Some Warriors here suggested I google websites/blogs that would be interested in promoting my services (becoming an affiliate) and to contact them directly.

However, as I'm writing out the e-mail to the site owners, I can't help but to feel its a bit spammy - something I would probably delete.

Are there any tips that you guys have against "spammy" e-mails asking to partner up?

You've answered half of your own question. Here's the other half:

Don't try to write it to wow them with you and get them to partner with you. Be real. Be straight. Be down to earth.

Don't sound like you're trying to sell them, just sound like a normal real person.

Would you guys suggest a long, thoroughly written first e-mail or a short one?

Whichever you personally would find yourself reading and responding to if you received it.

Just be yourself. Personalize it. Find out some information about them to not make it sound generic. Send it as if you were opening a elevator and they happened to be going up 60 floors with you. You have done some research... you know a little about them. What would you say?
