Some affiliate tips for product owners

I want to share some tips with you guys

Remember that your affiliates are your sales team. Treat them as a team with encouragement and recognition. Consider putting up a blog that's designed to let your affiliates know what's going on with your product and the launch. You can let them know about feedback, FAQs, show them testimonials, and offer attaboys. If you want to run a contest for your affiliates, you can do that in the blog as well. This is a great way.

Give your sales team tools to use.
Offer an affiliate page with their affiliate links, banners, book covers, emails, autoresponder series, ads, articles, text links, product reviews, keywords, etc. The more you give them, the more likely they are to go out and actively promote your product. Make this as easy as possible for them. Give them ideas of what to do with the tools. For instance, tell them they can put up a Squidoo lens and put the product review on there, or they can bundle the articles together and offer them as a free opt-in report. Tell them what to do so they'll take action.

You have a responsibility to your affiliates.
After all, they aren't going to blast your promo out to their list more than once or twice, so make your sales page the very best you can from the beginning. Get it done by a professional copywriter if you can afford it, or study successful copywriting and after you write your sales page get it critiqued at a copywriter's forum. If your conversion is low, consider having your sales page reworked.

Have a way for your affiliates to reach you.
Whether it be a blog or your email address, your affiliates will want to reach you with questions. Keep the lines of communication open and direct, and answer them quickly. If you don't appear to care about them, they won't care about selling your product.

    Hi,

Interesting thread I am revamping my affiliate page for this month.

I have done a lot of research into affiliate pages and I am trying to pinpoint exactly what affiliates want.

I agree with the above points entirely, but I'm interested in anyone who has tried something totally different, what have you done to make it better for your affiliates?

What is the most important thing to an affiliate?

I don't just want to ask questions so I'll give some infomation based on my research.

Things I don't like to see:

Hidden affiliate pages or non existant affiliate pages:

Make the link fairly obvious, a small link at the bottom is fine, or top, if I can't see your page, or can't reach it, why would I promote you?

Failure to provide a free copy of your ebook?

What? You seriously expect someone to promote a product they haven't seen.

No contact info, or late in replying:

If I get an affiliate contacting me, I make sure I give them time and do what I can to help them, if you can't be bothered to do this, why would someone work with you.

Things I like about affiliate pages I have researched:

Inclusion of sales screenshots and conversion rate proof:

This is always good to see, I like to know of past success.

Easy Navigation to the relevant section of the page:

If I want a tool I want it quick, the best affiliate pages are the easiest to use.

    Affiliate Newsletter with email support:

The best webmasters do what they can for their affiliates, It is best to have long term relationships with affiliates as they are often the driving force behind your success.

    Affiliate Competitions/Incentives/Max commissions:

We have just finished a competition that went great, we gave away a hell of a lot of money, but to get affiliates you have to give the rewards. I get tired of greedy webmasters who give the affiliate the minimum they can get away with, it is a very short sighted attitude.

    Thanks, Phil

Great timing. We are working to revamp our affiliate program this month. how often you sign up for individual site affiliate program vs affiliate network programs. I am debating if should keep teh program in house or send it to a network.
