How I made my first bucks...

Hello Everyone!

I would like to give a little help to those who are not making money from home yet.

But first, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Enzo Reyn and I used to provide SEO services until I figured out that I make more money by developing my own websites. I make a full time income, which shows that I am on the right track. I learnt a lot from friends I met throughout my journey. I mainly make money with adsense sites, email marketing and through local partners who are willing to pay for my work. So, that's a little info about me. But let's dive into more important things.

I would like to show you a way to make an easy $100-$200. It worked for me and with any luck it will work for you too (might not work for everyone or in every country).

It all started when I was looking through a boring pizza site to order my dinner. Their website was not very attractive and was not user friendly. I decided to create a new website for them, using one of the many free templates available online. It took me less than 2 hours of work, I basically copy-pasted their menu into the new template, I created a subdomain and sent an email to the business owner / manager.

This is what my email said: I told them their website was old fashioned and hard to use and that I would love to help them create a more modern and user friendly website so their customers can easily find what they want to order. I also sent them the link to the new demo site I built and told them that they can test drive it for 30 days for free.

After just 4 days, the manager called me and told me that the new website was converting better, and they are getting more orders. 3 weeks later, he told me he wants to keep the new site and we negotiated a price. As I didn't spend very much time on it, I told them they could keep it for $100. (You can of course negotiate a much higher price, depending on your market). They wrote out the check without hesitation and they also gave me 10 coupons for free pizza.

What can we learn from this? Often times, we have to put in work before profit comes. No matter what you decide to do online, money comes when you work for it.

My pizza client also referred several other clients to me, which generated even more revenue. It is not too hard to find local companies with whom you can make the same process work.

I would be more than happy to help if you have any questions. I would also appreciate if you could share your success stories similar to this one.
Don't despair if you don't make money right away, keep working and money will follow.

Sorry of my English
Best Regards

  • This is a good idea to focus on local business. Like this we can implement this techniques to other local businesses. We can make websites for Doctors, shop owners etc.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • Sure, variations extend to infinity...

Just need someone to take action
  • I actually thought about doing this awhile ago, but I didn't think I could pull it off.
  • The trouble with working with local businesses is that you have to work with them.

I have sacked nearly all mine now and returned back to affiliate and CPA mmarketing, a lot more profitable and a lot less agro.

  • It takes alot to exit out of one niche and enter into another - and make money from it. But you've been able to pull it off. Congrats on your profits.

    • Congratulations - you did a great job with that pizza company. I have been on many websites where I felt exactly the same way.
  • It's great to know that you were able to find a pizza owner who understands the importance of having an effective website. However, many local business people are still reluctant to keep up with the times. Despite the fact that the Yellow Pages are no longer effective, many people are refusing to invest in an internet marketing expert. That's sad.

    • You need to take a risk and show this x local business owners the benefits, and after that ask or talk about money, but if you keep your price down you have succes guarantee.
  • I did something very similar a little over a year ago. 1 and 1 had a .99 cent domain sale, and at the time it took them like a month to bill me. I took a chance and bought 101 domain names. The names were the names of local doctors (ex. drdavidwelch.com) I built a simple site for each one I then built a business site drdomainstore.com and started marketing.

I sent an email, followed by a postcard, followed by a phone call. It worked pretty good and we needed to buy more domain names. I bought a total of 210 names and sold 104 sites that bring in a passive $27 every month.

I offered everyone the domain name for free so I did not feel like name jacking was an issue. All in all it an extra $2800 that I can count on every month.

Like you said sometimes you have to take the risk.
  • I am working on this kind of offline method myself but i love your approach with the "you can test drive it for 30 days" very very clever but more then that sympathetic toward the pizza owner. I ran across a headline recently about "empathy marketing" and i feel that is exactly what you did for that business. You could have gotten a wonderful testimonial too and also put that site in your portfolio. I'm going to take your advice while I am working on a few other businesses and build the sites in between and just let them turn out as they turn out nothing lost I can still use the site as a sample site.

I read through the text you wrote you really come across as very kind and I for one surely appreciate that you wrote this out for everyone. Thank you!

This also is a door opener you have a very happy person on your hands so if you email a little later they certainly would open that email and take additional advice.

bytheway those who are afraid there are some WSO's where you get a membership and also software for popping out pretty nice html websites you don't have to worry about knowing how to manipulate html.

dear op this is a great post for the offline section as well.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • If you are a half-way decent web developer, this model actually works and I can confirm this as I have done it myself.

Nothing lights up a business owners eyes like offering them a nice website.

Having examples and pricing in place is a must.

Definitely leave them a business card or flyer and check back with them as most are initially reluctant to take the plunge.

The "build it first" model definitely tempts them more. I have seen it work.
  • This actually works, like we want to see product first before considering buying it.
  • It is a good way of making money no doubt and can provide a kick start to generate leads, but the work is kind of boring for me. I am a full time web developer and working in advance technologies, I have created many advanced websites which fulfills complex specific business requirements but the problem not many people admire your efforts and rewards you equally. Actually they don't even care how much effort you are putting me, all they want is to make you work more while paying you less. I think that making your own awesome websites is much comfortable than wasting your talent for others

    • When I started my online marketing dream, the first think was PPC, like bux.to neobux or site like this. I tryd to figure out how can be possible to "work from home". And this idea comes at that time, so the reson why i gived the test period was the "desperation for money". I learn from own experience, let the costumer to convince himself! then you sure will have more succes to sell your product (in my case the html website).

I'm not a professional web developer, but is very easy to design a micro niche site for a little business from scrach or free ready made templates..... it`s full the internet with free html templates, you just need to select the good one and update.

Yes,sure is work, just need to find the right person or business owner.

I agree, definitely much easier to work on your website. But is not enogh to build a website....need traffic, need to monetize it, and if you dont know how or you have no idea how to start, then is better to work for others for a small fee to have more orders...

  • You guys are a part of a very low percentage of people who actually take action (and then go on to succeed making decent money).

    Best of luck with everything...
  • I'm inspired by this! Thanks for sharing
  • Nice Tips. I would help a lot of people understand how working from Home can help them make money. Also it will give them inspiration to do something on their own.

    • What a great idea. A great way to get an in with local business too.

What did you use as the subdomain? A generic pizza domain like citybestpizza? I'm trying to figure out how they tested it for those four days and said it drew better than their own when it was on your site. (I'm still learning!)

      Thanks for the idea.
