figuring out competition

If I search on Google Keyword Tool and it says that the competition is low does that mean is a good keyword because it has about 300000 monthly searches and low competition. Which is the best way to go deeply and know if its a good keyword?

When using the google keyword tool make sure in the left column you select "Exact Matches" that way you will get a better estimate of traffic

300,000 searches and low competition huh?

    How many results are there?
What kind of pages are on the front of the first page?
    Are those broad searches?

You need a lot more information than simply broad search results and the competition from Google.

I'd be leery of basing a good deal of work on just one or two keywords or phrases. Be sure that there is enough keywords with good traffic that will make it worth your while to delve into the niche.

Look at the searches in google that come up for those keywords, how many backlinks they have and where the links are coming from, how large the site is, what the rankings for the site - none of which should deter you from jumping in but which should give you a good idea of what is needed to compete.

Low competition in the keyword search tool from Google also means that people aren't paying a great deal for advertising - which can mean that the niche doesn't have lots of marketers or that it doesn't make too much money for people.

Look at what people are buying. Use the keyword to look in affiliate directories to see what is being sold and how much of it is being sold.

    And then test.

    Hey,

It is quite simple. There are millions of peoples are searching Google for Free information as well as for buying product or information products. That is why the term 'Buyers Keywords' came into play. As a internet marketer every one is trying to search buyers keyword not the keyword for free information searchers. Like 'money' is very common phrase. Searcher may want money as a donation, he want to know money lenders etc. But who searches 'How to make money quick' is person who wants to make money quick and that is the buyers keyword.

If you are getting Good search volume keyword and low competition that does not mean that that keyword will convert. There is low competition that means that may be not selling keyword. Got my point.
