Want to set up a domain at blogger

I have registered a free domain at crazydomains.com and now I want to use it at my blogger blog. But when I want to set up this as a custom domain, it shows me an error -

I have never used a domain name in my blog. It will be a great help for me if anyone can give me the solution of this problem.

Just a question (and not really an answer to what you're asking at all ), but if you have your own domain-name for your site, wouldn't you rather have it safely self-hosted, even on free hosting if necessary, rather than being dependent on all Blogger's vagaries and vicissitudes?

Set up free hosting on 000webhost.com, rather than using blogger, which has led to some undesirable experiences.

000webhost has been great and I've had no problems (knock on wood), as opposed to the many problems warriors have had on blogger and even wordpress.com.

Can wordpress be the better option than blogger? if so, how can I set up my domain at wordpress? I am not used to with wordpress. My domain is seoblogger.asia and wordpress does not allow an option to set other than .com, .net, .org and .me domains while registering. I can be wrong but want to get a clear instruction to set up the domain.

        Yes - far better.

Self-hosted wordpress, though, not wordpress.com (that's a free hosting service, and no monetization or promotion of services/products is allowed there, so that's also no use to you, presumably?).

You don't set it up "at wordpress". You set up hosting on your own site, and install wordpress software on that. It can be installed as a one-click operation from the host's C-panel (or equivalent). That isn't necessarily the most secure way to install it, but it's what many people do, for the ease and simplicity.

You can get free hosting for this at Freehostia.com, or Byethost.com, or 000WebHost.com, or in other places.

Be careful where you do it, though. You need a well-established host with a reputation for longstanding reliability, otherwise you can have accidents that way, too. (And you need one that doesn't put its own little ads on your pages, obviously - none of the ones I've mentioned above plays that trick).

Another good alternative is to get hosting at Hostica.com, which costs only $1 per month (that's for one site/blog), but that price is going up in 2013.

Don't do it at wordpress.com: commercial/business sites are not allowed there.

It's really important to read the terms of service carefully, before doing business with anyone online. In the case of hosting companies, your website can sometimes disappear in the night, if you don't!

You're clearly right to find an alternative to Blogger, but wordpress.com isn't it.

WordPress is WAY better than Blogger. You should give WordPress a shot. If you don't like it then you can always try Blogger but as Alexa said, it comes with a risk.

Everyone always wants to talk people into using blogger to use wordpress, if someone wants to use blogger let them use blogger. Personally I'd rather use blogger than free hosting though I do understand truly owning your site is better than blogger.

Anyhow, for the OP, you just forward the domain to your blogspot address. I use godady and am not familiar with the domain registrar you mentioned but basically if you cilck the domain there should be an option to forward it.

Basically there won't turly be a site at mallik.com for example but when people type that in they will be taken to mallik.blogspot.com.

In the address bar it will show mallik.blogspot.com. If you would like it not to show the .blogspot you can foward "with masking" which willmake your address bar juts show mallik.com. The downside to this is no matter what page people go to it will say mallik.com it won't say mallik.com/article-about-doodles.

The downside to that is I like the idea people can copy paste and forward my posts to friends. If smeone copies and pastees the address bar it will just be mallik.com and won't necessarily take them to the page or post they wanted their friend to see unless its the most recent one.

The other downside to this is you can't use adwords as they don't allow you to advertise sites that are being forwarded ie yo could advertise mallik.blogspot.com but not mallik.com since mallik.com is really mallik.blogspot.com

Not knocking the OP for not knowing as we all start somewhere but if someone needs to ask how to setup a custom domain for blogger it probably means they are an absolute beginner and blogger is probably a better starting point with a shorter learning curve than wordpress. They can always transfer it over to wordpress later.

If someone is stuggling with forwarding a domain it would be much more difficult to setup hosting and everything themselves.

          Yes, I agree with this.

That (and lack of awareness of good, safe, free hosting) is the reason so many people get sucked into using Blogger and end up regretting it, as you can see by reading all the threads linked to above, and so many others like them.

Self-hosted Wordpress software can be done as a one-click installation (I'm not suggesting that's the safest way), but I agree that using it has more of a learning-curve, of course. I don't use it at all, myself (but I'd still use it rather than Blogger, if those were the only two options).

You make a good point. When I first startd using blogger I didn't know the first thing about blogs, hosting, etc. I've gotten much better in the past year or so and I know I should move to wordpress but I've gotten so comfortable with blogger I don't wnat to leave now.

I know I have to and I will soon but just not in the mood for a learning curve at the moment. You make a good point though. If somene has some knowledge starting out and is comfortable with trying wordpress it's probably a better way to go

mohsinmallik - I'd also like to wait for someone to give us an answer on that question. I am from the Philippines and I wonder how I can install WordPress to domains with a .ph extension name.

Secondly, does anyone know how to buy a domain with a .ph extension at G-O-D-A-D-D-Y?

I don't think that you will actually own that name so you don't have 100% control over it.

I would rather register one that you own 100%.

This is not the way to go in my view.

I looked up Crazy Domains and I found an Australian web host/domain registrar but no free domains. Perhaps that was a special promotion?

Why there is need to use free domain service it is advisable to pay some money and buy a custom domain it costs only 10$/ 2 year, I think it is not expensive if you really want to make some money from your blog.

You can use Godaddy to purchase a domain for blogger blog

    Happy blogging )

I have got the hosting from 000webhost (it is free) and installed wordpress there. So far, it is looking good to me. Which plugins for the wordpress are most important? Can anyone recommend some of them? I have installed akismet, keywordluv, seo yoast (not sure how to use it), adsense plugin (don't know how to use it), an hit counter plugin. My site's link is in my signature.

The main issue for me with Blogger vs Wordpress is that if Blogger decides they don't like you, you can lose all of the content that you have on your website. Of course you can back it up somewhere else, but that's extra work that doesn't have to be done if you're using Wordpress.

Worser still, there are people complaining that they created a blog with blogger and it got deleted even before they made any posts. It let them create the blog though, so you'd think the blog name was valid and not a disallowed name.
