How do you decide to buy an eBook?

As an eBook purchaser and an internet marketer who's aware of marketing tactics, what are some things that STILL drive you to make a purchase?

reviews and who is offering the book (if they are known & respected)

I get the respect part, but for me reviews just don't do it. One can't really decide to buy something without reviews, but at the same time, if I were to purchases eBooks on good reviews, I'd spend thousands.

Like many ("most"?) e-book customers, I typically buy things (in the subject-areas in which I have sufficient interest to start with, obviously) from people whose recommendations I trust. A lot of it's about "who's selling/promoting it".

I only buy ebooks that have lots of dirty little secrets, Ninja strategies, autopilot cash programs and business models where I get lots of money working from home in my underwear.

Oh, it also needs to come from an Internet Marketing guru that has bikini babes all around a multi-room mansion with hundred dollar bills swirling in the atmosphere.

Now these really are the best reasons.

Totally Alexa. I only buy in areas that I am interested, and not "just because" of good reviews..

What travlinguy said goes without saying. No bikini babes on a sports car...no sale.

My other requirements are as Alexa has already said: The ebook needs to be about a business method I'm already using or plan to use in the near future. The biggest factor is who is selling the product. I rarely buy from people I don't know.

The topic has to interest me and be something that I don't already have enough info on. The price has to be good as well. The author also has some influence. If known, that sometimes is enough to make the decision. Even if not personally known, if the member has been here a while and has a large number of posts it is easy to see they do make contributions and are not simply trying to make sales.

Build a buyers list, pay for solo ads and start building your list more and more, use aweber or getresponse for email broadcasting services, the more opt ins from interested buyers the more chances you have to make a sale, learn how to copywrite good, and start broadcasting emails to your list, you will get sales like that. Or you can start a blog and blog about your products. The key thing is to drive traffic, but traffic doesnt get you sales, turning that traffic into leads and converting your prospects is what will get you sales

Usually if it’s a topic I’m interested in and have little knowledge of then I would like to learn from someone that has more experience than me in that field. However, they need to convince me that they are actually knowledgeable and are not just a charlatan.

Usually in topics where I am interested in and recommended by "authority figures" or people I like.

I think that your emphasis on "STILL" implies that question is to experienced or at least moderately knowledgeable marketers. In my case, as a newbie, I was blinded by the light - so to speak. You know, all those shiny objects But as the years progress and my own knowledge from my own experiences increases the ebooks I purchase are related to 1. topic 2. depth of knowledge the sales page promises 3. whether I am going to use it in the next week.

I have FINALLY learned that buying something just because it's on sale now, doesn't mean that I will ever USE IT. I recently moved to a new laptop and was shocked by the number of products I had purchased in 2010 that I really never opened. Thankfully the number of products that were never opened reduced to 0 in 2012 and at the same time, so were the overall number of products. However, the benefits from the products I did use rose significantly.

Of course, anything would be a significant rise over buying something and not opening it!

One thing that really turns me off to ebooks is whensomeone has like 10 pages of crazy fonts and colors talking about how awesome the ebook is and how rich you will get but gives very little if any info about the book, product, what it will teach me, etc. I dont want to read ten pages of a pitch, give me a quick concise idea of what your ebook contains and how it will help me.

as for whether i buy it or not depends on the price i cant justify paying more than $10 for an ebook at the very most. also i dont just stumble upon an ebook and buy it, has to be a topic im looking for or looking to learn about.

I only buy an ebook if I need information that I can't otherwise find on the Internet. I don't seek out "make money online" ebooks ...ebooks with "methods", etc. The ebooks I buy teach me something I want to know.
