What is your Single Best Traffic Source?

Hi,

I am doing a bit of research for a post I am thinking about.

We all know there are a number of great ways to send traffic to your site, blog, squeeze page etc but I was wondering what is everyone's single best traffic source if they had to choose just one?

For example: At the moment mine would be Triberr. Because I am in several tribes my RSS feed gets lots of exposure for others.

So, what is the best traffic source for you at the moment?

Thanks for your input Warriors!

Regards,
John

  • Well, if you're asking about free traffic, I think forums & blog commenting are the most effective.
But as for paid, solo ads are the best with the best value and cost!
  • Besides, You cannot rely on always being top of Google, because algorithms are changing all the time!
So anybody would better build a list to ensure evergreen business!

    • After Google, Linkedin for me.
  • You Tube and blogging is getting me the most traffic right now.

    • if done correctly PPV. penny clicks and instant traffic. Solo ads are great but more expensive, media buying done correctly is also quick way to get good cheap traffic per click, and if you are looking for free traffic, blogging, press releases, wiki blogs, video.

I would do a combination of all.

    • I really must get back into Yahoo answers, that was working well for me at one stage.....
  • If I could figure a way to stay at top of Google without spending an arm and a leg...that would be dyn-o-mite!

My most successful traffic generation has been Twitter.

But I go about it a different way....I look for posts where I can help others...when I tell them I have a solution to that problem and put my link they almost ALWAYS click on it which in turns gets their other followers to click on it

    • How do you find posts where they are looking for a help; is there a way to go about and find it? Your help would be appreciated, i do use twitter regularly but unfortunately mine is not on steroids!
  • Some really great info - thanks to everyone who has contributed.
  • Do you do ad-swaps? Or just buy solos?

Sometimes I find it a little saturated or water down traffic......

Got to ask the question, how many lists are they on?
  • PPC is my best traffic source, Laser targeted traffic.
  • Over the last 6 years, Google has been my biggest traffic source.
  • Right now... seo.
  • Solo ad and adswaps have become my favorite sources of traffic :-)

I've since given up on SEO as it takes too much time to rank, and too long to make money with it :-)
  • The best online traffic source you will find are other people who will refer your product or service themselves and are credible in the niche you are targeting.
  • My best source of traffic now is Google but a close second is press releases.
    • [1] reply
    • Press Releases? - I have had very little success with this.....

Great info from this thread - thanks again everyone.
  • My list.

Other traffic sources fluctuate, but my list is the only source that's grown steadily over the past 10 years.

I'm not being sarcastic, this is the truth.

    • Solo ads or Email marketing is the way to go. Google has too much money and they hire people just to make your life miserable. Facebook and Yahoo do the same, always changing algorithms, always finding ways to terminate your account for any reason. Solo ads or email marketing is definitely the way to go for long term success.

  • Solo ads are great for paid traffic. If you can, rank your site to Number 1 on Google, will definitely bring a lot of free traffic. Youtube is also a great source.

    • You mean ranking my website #1 on Google will bring me lots of traffic? NO SHIT? I had no idea!

Thanks for a totally useless reply to a decent question from the OP.

My sources are PPV, PPC, "Social Media" and my own lists. SEO/Google/Whoever isn't a factor whatsoever and never will be.
  • for me it is facebook hands down. I post links to articles on my blog and special offers in my webstore, and I get loads of hits. Especially right now we have a great offer for customers, and I am finding it is getting shared with others, so great! I pay for a few ads occasionally as well ,but not often

  • 1. Infographic creation and syndication
    2. Social Media Branding
    3. Yahoo Answers posting
are the best traffic sources for us at this moment.
Infographics are not only proven to be the best in increasing the traffic to your website, but also play a very important role in ultimate brand exposure.

Social Media Branding, The key social media marketing strategy that makes your business present in all the social media spots opening opportunity for your customers/ clients to spread your brand.
  • Blogging has been a traffic source for me that branches off other sources.

I get both organic AND social traffic to my blog just by having it optimized as well as sharing it through social syndication.

I have some automated tools for this, but at the end of the day, I get most of my traffic from content based marketing.
  • I don't think you can get much traffic directly from Scribd and other pdf sharing sites. But yes they will help your website from SEO point of view.

And I agree with many other members here that Yahoo Answering has been one of the best sources for my websites as well.

Other than this, traditional SEO always help immensely. So always invest your time to build quality backlinks back to your site.
  • Google search is best so far...
Followed by Facebook and referral traffic.
  • Hey man great question!

My single best FREE traffic source right now is forums, really awesome traffic really responsive and pretty fast actually.

My single best PAID traffic resource right now is FREE WSO's, It used to be solo ads until I understood the "quality" of solo ads compared to other traffic sources.

However, I'm still buying solo ads here and there
  • Inflolinks + Fb ads are doing me 400% + ROI .
  • StumbleUpon
  • paid traffic is the best if you can afford it
  • I have a videobased site that get a lot of trafic from StumbleUpon. Not just a few peaks but steady ~400 a day.

  • The occasional ad swap with another list owner in the same niche. Not too often so as not to "turn off" my subscribers so to speak. Builds the list, gets fast traffic, other spin-offs too.

    Best,

    Andy.
  • I don't know much about Solo Ads but i don't like to get traffics by paid otherwise we don't know that's are coming targeted traffics or nor, When you optimize blog with pure seo it would be great to generate freaky traffics Maybe there is a different link building methods to build backlinks to your site, Blog commenting on high PR Blogs, Submitting articles to the article directories, RSS Submit directories, social bookmarking and creating web 2.0 sites and link back to your main site or post. Quality is better than Quantity
  • Google / DeviantArt
  • For me it's probably my IM blog because i do nothing to manually generate traffic except just create new content but i have been doing this over a few years so it doesn't happen overnight

I now build my list on auto-pilot from my blog and the quality of the subscribers are always pre conditioned too because they came from my personal IM blog :-)

    • Hi Paul,

Do you track where your conversions come from with Analytcis?

One of the anomalies I'm seeing on my SundaySEO optin right now is that optins from another SEO guy and WF are way outperforming traffic from my blog (some of whom may admittedly already be on my list).

Tracking does turn up a lot of counter-intuitive stuff and just generating traffic without monitoring its conversion is a terrible waste of resources.
  • Tagged.com for me

    • This looks like it could be fun - just grabbed your WSO!
    • my traffic sources are
      google

      thanks,
    • 1. Solo Ads 2.Emailing 3.FaceBook I use all of these and they take turns in being #1
Constant change is here to stay!
    • As a net worker I use every available source for free traffic. I post classifieds, blog, squidoo, and several social networking sites. All of the above are great examples but in my personal experience, I get most of my traffic from social networking sites. Facebook In particular. I added the Facebook like button to a website of mine and every like gets me a link on their profile and in the news feed and it brings in traffic even days after the like happened. So the more likes I get, the more Facebook traffic I will get.
  • For me forums and Facebook are working great

  • What works best for me is through blog commenting.
  • Awesome tread. I use traffic exchanges as a way to get traffic to my sites. I have been doing it for years. I owned on manual traffic exchange for 8 years. Sold it and started 3 auto traffic exchanges. All are doing great.
    • [1] reply
    • Yo Speedy...how are traffic exchanges these days? I used to be around netmarketingforums and Jon Olsen, Paul, Soren and all those dudes but I figured it was way burned-out at this point. Then I see you posting about doing well with auto-surfs? Talk to me! Here or PM
  • My top 3 source is always Google Organic , Google CPC and Newsletter send with Email Marketing .

I'm still go with the best google organic which always bring me huge traffic and highest conversion rate compare to my second and third source of generate traffic. I'm been posting lot of blogs, article , review , directories and social media. Nothing bring me traffic best than google organic .
  • Best advise on where to get traffic is Google.

Be patient when doing your SEO so that you don't get slapped.

On the other hand, build a list, do social media marketing and use all other white hat methods so that in case you get slapped you still have some traffic.

Look out for someone called Jeff Johnson or Ana Hoffman. They have some great stuff on traffic.
  • I get lots of traffic from facebook. I make it a key part of my recruitment process for readers. It works. The key is to get a critical mass going.

  • As far as free traffic goes, forum marketing is the best in my opinion. It really is free, and you can get good results even when you don't put that much effort on it. Video marketing and social media marketing are good too, though I don't have much experience in those methods yet.
  • I suppose it depends on the speed and accuracy of delivery.

In no particular importance of order:

    1. PPC

    2. Solo Ads

    3. Blog Comments

    4. Videos

    5. Blogging

    6. Articles

These combined are going to give you some massive momentum to carry through to the next stages of your online business and allowing you to FREE up your time and outsource most of the tasks within your business.

Hope these help anyone here at the great and wonderful W.F.

  • Never felt better about traffic. They are coming from different sources but none of those sources can be called as best source. While search engines are working this month, youtube is working in the next month.
  • #1 is Google search
    #2 is Youtube

Back in the 90's it was Yahoo, but that is only a trickle now.

Social media is no longer a good provider and they always had poor conversion.

    • Social media converts extremely well for CPA email and zip-submits. If ur looking to upsell...not so much at all, but I'll take a couple hundred clowns on FB everyday making me a $1+ for email submits. Really, it's about the easiest money you'll ever make after you put in the time to learn how to market on FB and how to get ur ads running cheaply.

  • For me it is all about forums and blogging!
  • A combination of SEO retargeting and my email lists !
  • Depending what your services and products are, Craigslist.org might be one of the best targeted resources. It sure has brought us paying customers.
  • I have used craigslist before - It can work very well.
  • well, it depends on what you focus. I have seen people succeed with different types of traffic (seo, ppc...) just find your way

    3) Daily automated posting on craigslist.
  • Cant believe this thread is still going.... What I have to say is recently I have joined some FB groups and they are bringing in great traffic.

    - Social Media
    - Bookmarking
    - Blog Comments
  • For me it's SEO (especially traffic from yandex which is very easy to get if you know russian)

  • Deffinetly my list, super dependable and active
  • SEO particularly Google search engine..
  • Best traffic source for me is definitely: solo ads

Google ads for those who still has an adwords account not being shut down.
Especially I recommend go for image ads. It works like magic.
Google is not as tough with banner ads, and you can get really good and cheap traffic this way.

PPV has not worked out for me. I lost money with leadimpact which is considered #2 PPV network

    The other 1270 folks....Not a darn thing.

Fiverr, is perfect for traffic...not necessarily buying gigs, but posting your gigs.

You can have up to 20 of them so...why not?

Anyways, my two ways, however I believe strongly in the axiom:

Its easier to find 100 ways to find one customer than it is to find one way to find 100 customers.

My best traffic source is social media websites. I am getting a huge amount of traffic from social media websites. After social media I am getting traffic from forum and blog commenting.
  • you tube and solo ads.
  • Targeted traffic campaigns, forum posting, youtube, craigslist and PPC
  • mine is referrals.

I wrote an incredible e-book that provides more value than anything else out there, and I set up a package in my affiliate tools where my affiliates can generate a copy of the e-book with their affiliate links, and give the e-book away to their followers, email lists, blogs, websites, or wherever else, in my biggest source traffic is people finding that e-book and sharing it with others.

I realized that starting by adding value to others lives, providing greater value than anyone else, in earning their trust, they would naturally want to buy whatever products I offered, without much skepticism, as long as I treated my customers the way I would want to be treated myself.
