Squidoo Update Screws Up Lenses Right During Christmas Sales

I can hear Alexa now. "I told ya so."

LOL!

Luckily for me, I have all my eggs spread out so it won't kill me. But I still love using Squidoo.

However, those of you lensmasters who didn't know yet, they rolled out a change today that is supposed to make it more mobile friendly.

What it did though, is screw up a lot of hand coding people did.

Right. During. Christmas.

So go forth and fix it if you want to!

Bad timing. Horrible way to treat members.

But it's 3rd party content Bend over and take it up the....

Tiff

P.S. Here's a notice about the update: http://hq.squidoo.com/squid-news/sin...onsive-layout/

(Not my page) and you can read the comments from furious lensmasters to get an idea of why it's a nightmare.

Sidebars are gone completely from the four I still have up. Videos are huge!

Changes like this stopped shocking me years ago. It's why I don't rely on them but just enjoy them.

It's also why I took my original Squidoo course off the market - step by step is impossible when they can't keep their hands off of tinkering with it. Makes screen shots and videos obsolete in a day.

I haven't seen any of my lenses affected badly yet but that might be because my lazy addiction means I don't hand code anything - I use built in modules.

    But we'll see...

Many warriors can learn a lot from your attitude. You have absolutely the perfect outlook on this. I really haven't used squidoo much in the past year, so it hasn't affected me at all, but with any changes of a 3rd party site, all you can do is go with the flow and adjust.

That is something most people never understand. You have to be willing to adapt. Sometimes things don't go your way, but you can either roll with the punches or throw in the towel.

After the first one (major spam crackdown) I just updated what I already had, once a year. Glad I did as four still make money and send traffic.

This is not the first time that the top Squidoo members decide to make a big change during Christmas time. In 2010 they decided to completely change all categories, and all lensmasters were obliged to care about this matter without being able to leave it for later because this was a big change with many consequences.

When I complained about this sudden change without asking us if we agree with it, and without paying attention to the fact that on Christmas most people are busy with their house, cooking, and with their religion, their family and friends, I was heavily attacked by many old lensmasters at the Squidu forum.

Many of these lensmasters wrote offensive comments in two of my lenses, besides attacking me at the forum. Their attitude was more than ridiculous…

I understood that Squidoo is a monster like Google, but most lensmasters keep flattering the top Squidoo members who organize everything because they are making money thanks to their Squidoo lenses, and this is why they always say 'OK' without complaining about anything.

Google also makes many changes without asking us if we agree with them, and without respecting our business.

The online world is as cruel as the offline world.

That is because they both own their respective sites. It is no different than me letting others comment on my blog for a few months and then deciding I no longer want comments on my blog.

If you commented on my blog I would not contact you and ask your opinion about me deleting comments .. I would just delete the comments.

Never has the word "Update" caused such a consistent flutter in the online community as in the past year or so.

Right from Google updates to Clickbank updates, Squidoo updates and every other update in between, this innocuous-sounding word has gained the power to send a shiver down every "dependent" marketer's spine.

Guess it's time to re-evaluate what we actually control.

I’m using Squidoo as a free traffic generating method to drive traffic to my websites and blog. It is working well, but Squidoo is quite problematic.

My sites are getting targeted website traffic thanks to my lenses, and these visitors remain longer at my sites than Google visitors, and others.

When you use a free platform you have a boss. I understand that as a boss, Squidoo has the right to make changes without asking us if we agree with them, but they SHOULD ask us, since we are working for them. They SHOULD care about what we think, and mainly, care about our business.

However, I don’t see any way to protect our rights as 'employees', neither at Squidoo nor at Blogger.

We are free to use their platforms and work on them, but our work is not protected. We have no rights. This is not fair.

We should have some authority, since we work hard. It is thanks to our work that these companies are making money.

I didn't stop using Squidoo and Blogger to drive traffic to my websites, but I don’t work hard for them.

I’m sorry for those who depend on these platforms because they don’t have other income streams.
