My Determination For This Is Gone...

Hey Warriors,

I have been calling myself an 'Online Marketer' for about 2 years now. I can remember the first day that i tried to promote something off of ClickBank, i felt like i could anything. I tried to get away with promoting products through silly sub domains and years later i see how dumb and embarrassing that actually made me look. Anyway, I'm about to pull the plug on this "Online Marketing" thing, I have spent too much time, energy, and money, for almost no profit. In the two years that i been at this, i have only made two sales. A total of $34 in commissions. I can confidently say that i spent way more that in order to make those two sales. So what have i learned?

I learned that this business is extremely hard. If you don't know exactly what you are doing, then you will get nowhere. I know what my mindset must be like...it need to be determined confident, and have the will to keep this up. The only problem with that is, too mush time has been lost. I use all of my energy on the days that i can, which are limited, to try and make this work. I have missed special events in my life in order to take marketing opportunities with "Experience Consultants", and even after i have done that i only come across garbage. I can say though, that my only success which brings me pride is my blog, and that's only because people are actually reading its content, which is wonderful, because i'm absolutely horrible at traffic generation.

Even though im not generating any money from the blog, i still enjoy seeing the page stats that reveal how many people have clicked on what, and who has read what and when. That seems to be the only rewarding part about this...i get up everyday to check statistics that should convert, but never do....

Why can't i make money online by doing what i want to do? I don't like having to change my websites so that they are more appealing to visitors. Wish that you could still make some money online with a website that is completely you, and not something that your marketing consultant says you "should have on you website, it should look like this"....

How do i make money from my blog?

Because you're in the IM niche, Nicolas: you're trying to teach people about making money from something from which you're not yourself making any money.

Getting involved in the IM niche is one of the commonest mistakes that beginning internet marketers make, and one of the biggest "single causes" of failure. It's hugely competitive and many of your competitors are hardened old pro's with huge promotional budgets, and so on. You're really "up against it" and stacking the deck firmly against yourself, there.

By blogging about something of which you do have successful experience, and for which you have real enthusiasm, maybe?

I agree to focus all of your efforts on the IM niche is not wise. What I will say is that you take the training you learn inside of the IM niche and apply it to a profitable niche. I am in the IM niche and inside of our products is training that will help any marketer in any niche. I believe in our products because of the value that it has given me. If your in an different niche you still need to learn how to drive traffic, and build a relationship with your subscribers.

        It can be.

Not true. I could teach a 10 year old to do most of what I do. If you are un-willing to learn, take advice and accept and learn from criticism then you won't get far.

I don't like having to change my websites so that they are more appealing to visitors.

If you admit defeat, then you are defeated.

If you accept the situation is bad but you are determined to see it through, you have a much better chance at success.

I was reading Trumps book and then I saw this thread. This seems to fit perfectly

How much of your money have you spent actually promoting your business, and how much of it have you spent on "research", "techniques", "systems", and "opportunities"?

Some may not agree with this, but I saw a quote on success recently that I thought was quite profound...

"Again and again I therefore admonish my students in Europe and America: Don't aim at success -- the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run -- in the long-run, I say! -- success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it." ~ Viktor Frankl

I've been caught up in the whole 'going for the gold' attitude myself and have found that I only seem to find it in small amounts here and there. I recently shifted my focus toward doing something I'm good at (or so I'm told) and actually enjoy...writing fiction. I decided that while I'm hopeful that monetary results will come from it, I'm going to instead focus on the writing itself and not the outcome. So perhaps not the kind of answer expected, but it's a concept that's helped me to have a greater focus and lose some of the negativity in my life which can only lead to good things!
    Best of luck to you!

I am a firm believer that if simple basics are applied consistently, there is going to be some money made in any niche that has a hungry crowd. IM /MMo is no different than any other niche you are not an authority in. The problem comes when one tries to be an authority and they are not.

A tightly target crowd directed to a converting squeeze page converts in MMO just as well as in a health niche. Probably better because of the economy. The niche is not your problem. The ability to target traffic and direct them to the converting page is.

Until you learn to target and direct, no niche will produce.

Not trying to sound mean here .. just the truth. You must identify your weaknesses and fix the problem or look for another line of work.

I don't know what niche you've been focusing on but if it IS the IM niche then I have to agree that you're promoting products in the wrong niche if you haven't made any money doing internet marketing.

I do want to tell you that you shouldn't give up. Sure, get disgusted and angry and upset but only if that motivates you to actually do something that is going to make you some money.

I know that it's often when I get good and pissed off at how little money I'm making that I put more effort into actually doing something other than looking at stats and wondering why I'm NOT making the big bucks. Like Tony Robbins says, it take massive action. There really is no luck in this business.

If, on the other hand, you're just tired... take a step back. Get away from the computer for a week or two then come back and take a look at what you're doing. If you're head isn't in the game, take some time off until you feel refreshed and ready to get back at it again.

@nicolasmd, you talk about quitting and walking away, but your last sentence reveals you are not yet ready to quit. You have stuck at it for 2 years, you are not ready to walk away. At this point you need to analyze your plan and identify why it isn't working. Once you have done that, you can change the elements of your plan that need to be changed. Failing is NOT the same as being a failure. However, if you continue to do what you have always done, you are pretty likely to keep on getting what you've always got. My recommendation: Get coaching from someone that is successful at what you want to do. If you don't do that, you will most likely burn through another 1-2 years online before throwing in the towel. Don't let that happen.
