How to get your work done from oDesk or Elance effectively?

When you are getting cheap works, that means you are getting service from third world. If your job posting is clear surely you will get good people to complete the task.

Here is my suggestions...

1. Try to describe your requirement in plain English and in details
2. Hire people those are with competitive rate( ? ). Actually if you want to have a good and experience guy you have to pay him more than average.
3. Help him when he need you. It is really important due to the difference of time zone and language.
4. Give him some time before give up
5. You have to understand when you ask something different than that of your actuall job description it may take much more time in the back-end. So if you are in a tight budget, think one more time before writing a job description.
6. Programming can not be done for a long time, If a programmer work 5 hours continuously he will be tired and his efficiency will be decreased. So ask your programmer to work 5 or 6 hours a day.
7. If you need urgent work, award them with some bonus ( you can tell theme at the beginning that if they can finish the job within deadline you will award them 30% bonus or something)
8. People value the relationship. Treat them as like you. Most of the time it works than being a angry client
9. As you are getting your work done from a third world that does not mean you will get a professional website for $5( that is why i hate fivver gigs ). If that happens, you may fall into copyright issue at the long run. So, be reasonable with the price.
10. Do not ask any changes over skype or google talk. Mail them with details about changes. If needed discuss that over mail.

There are some more factors but I think above are the main factors of getting good work from oDesk or Elance.

It is obvious oDesk is the giant among others and it is still growing big.

Hope this helps.
Thanks
Sabbir

Thanks for your reply. I use to work as a freelancer on oDesk and Elance and after making my own company I gave up working on oDesk or Elance. I wrote that article using my experience and I hope it will help people to get their work done.

Now a days I also outsource some of my works when needed and I try to be kind with them. They are really needy people and I do not want them to be suffered by clients bad feedback. Instead I want people will help them and will understand that a man can not be best but he can do his best.

      Additional points:

When they need clarification you will have to answer them to get your work done. Also you have to mind it they are living a completely different time zone. Still now I work at my night time as I am professional in my way. But most of the freelancers are not like me and they will not be able to work at late night. So, you have to select a common time that works for both you and your freelancer.

      Thanks again
