Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income Blog App - Where do I start?

Hello.

I'm sure that many people here have heard of Pat Flynn. He is a reputable IM'er who is very transparent with his income, skills and passion.

I have his app on my iPhone and think the format is perfect for what I want to accomplish.

Does anybody know where he had this designed? Where can I go to have this sort of thing designed and programmed and what questions do I need to be sure to ask?

    Hi WiseDave!

    Pat here! I hired a developer to create this app for me from scratch. It was actually a developer that I was already working with in my iPhone application company. Unfortunately, he's no longer an indy developer - he was hired by a larger company and isn't taking any projects outside of the company spectrum

    But, there are of course plenty more iPhone app developers out there. I've used Elance to find several and have had good experiences with most of them (one I worked with was terrible, slow to deliver and dashed with some cash before the final deliverable was ready).

    You might also want to check out Conduit - Increase User Engagement & Web Traffic. They have a sort of semi-turnkey service that can create a similar app for you, as well as one for Android and Windows Mobile too. Plus, you can have a mobile version of your site created with it too for people who stumble upon your site on their phone's browser.

    Thanks for taking a moment to answer. You're a star mate!

    I don't even know where to start in order to ask intelligent questions to a developer. The best I could do at this moment in time is say, "See what Pat has....I want that!" LOL

    I will soldier on and check out that link and see where it takes me.

    Keep doing what you're doing!

        Out of all of the assets that you are building in your business,
        where do you think you are gaining the most leverage in the
        form of listeners/readers/followers/fans/customers and why?

        Would you say its your:
        - Blog
        - Podcast
        - Mobile App
        - iTunes Presence
        - Other web properties
        (Am I missing any?)

        Your insights would be greatly appreciated!

          Regarding your question - it's definitely the podcast (combined with it's presence in iTunes).

          It's crazy.

          I went to New Media Expo last week, and got stopped in the hallways a lot (I was wearing a bright red and white backpack with my name on it so that my readers/listeners could find me), and during conversations everyone brought up the podcast. "Thanks for the podcast". "I listen to your podcast on the way to work" "Podcast this, podcast that". Hardly anyone mentioned the blog, although I know they or most of them read it.

          There's just something about the connection that is made between publisher and consumer when it comes to the podcast - the voice, I dunno, it's something solid though, and as we all know that deep relationship is really important when it comes to brand awareness and fervor.

          I'm actually ramping up the number of podcasts this year (to once per week) because of it. People are listening to podcasts now more than ever, it seems.

      I have used outsource developers and designers in the past (not yet for mobile apps, but for PC apps and designs) - referencing another app is a great way to start, then be clear on what exact changes you would like - what enhancements you would like to make it "yours"

      After that, you can produce additional iterations based on market feedback
