I have my Idea, what's next?

Hi, this is my first time post.

I have just finished university and have a few months till I start my full-time job. I want to utilise this time to generate a potential avenue for secondary income down the track.

I have a few ideas however the one I am pursuing will be the most profitable (medical related).

I know I need to get a website started but I'm not as savvy with web development as most people here (Despite sub-majoring in Business Information Systems).

I have written a scaffold down but don't have a lot of money to play around with. Can you guys advise me

Briefly here is my summary:
Idea : Medical related Niche
Business: Selling E-Books and treatment methods (knowledge) [No idea whether this is E-Commerce]
Business Vision: Affiliate marketing/ one-one consultations
Business Type: Retail (?)[bit unsure]
Website concept: something similar to this Rent Textbooks at Australian Universities | Zookal.com in terms of aesthetics
Hardware/Software Requirements: [unsure]

I intend on dedicating a lot of time in getting this up and running as cheap as possible in the time I have.. Please help !

I would recommend trying to find a model that you like. Find a site that does a lot of what you would like to do. Then think about the first steps you would need to complete to have a basic site off the ground and earning money, even if a small amount at first.

Usually the biggest mistake people make in the beginning is having too many ideas and details, rather than focusing on the first goal that will make them money. It is okay to seek multiple methods of making money, but make sure you are dedicated to reaching a state of completion at a basic level that at least works.
Ex. Can present books for sale, can buy an ebook, and have it delivered to the cusotmer
Do just enough that you can actually close a sale even if it isn't perfect. The ability to actually checkout and buy is the #1 goal, not the beauty of the design or the bells and whistles of the shopping cart.

      Thankyou.

I will focus on delivering my eBook sale transaction.

Having found my ideal web layout(see o.p) for a retail store I am still dumbfounded as to how I may build the site or what backend software etc I need..

There is bound to be a cheap to free solution where you just install their software and add the product information. I know there are free shopping carts available at many hosts, but I am not an expert at digital downloads. But surely there is something less than $100 installed if not free.

We do 100s of digital downloads per week for our software (phpLD), but it is custom made, but I have to tell you, it is a nice feeling when you see people buying what you made and watch the downloads every day. Visualize what that will be like. It may not be long at all.

      Hi there!

You can create ebooks and put them in ClickBank so that you can have affiliates sell them . You can offer them 50% commissions per sale.

You can also build a list of people who are interested in your niche so that you can offer them your new content when they come out. So it will be some kind of email marketing. Try to grow the list, the more the better.

It will be also great to do a membership website, people can pay you monthly to access your information, you can do different level of subscriptions. If you aren't technical, you can look here in the forums for some Word press plugins that help you build websites.

      Good luck!

I think you can start affiliate program with your products nicely but before doing so, you should better take a look at Affiliate Marketing – What It Really Takes to Succeed? to know about the risk and a minimum amount of loss you might face, to be prepared to blow through money and burn holes in your pockets, to focus on making a profit, no matter how little it is.
If you are benefited please give a feedback here.

Thanks, I understand everyone is trying to plug there stuff but i'm looking for technical advice.
I think you should first aim on building a big list of targeted people first. So you can write a first ebook and put it in clickbank for like 1$ (or 2$) and affiliates earn 100% commissions (so you don't earn money). You can do it so that the buyers should enter their name and email to receive the ebook. They will then be added automatically to your list. This should help you build a list quickly.

After building the list, you can let them know about your new ebook (which will be priced higher). You can also make a promotion where if they buy today, they will get it for 50% off.

You can also become an affiliate of someone else who sales interesting books in the same field and you can offer his books to your list and you will receive 50%+ commissions per sale. You can also email the other sellers and offer them to promote their books and and they will promote yours in return.

Try to give value to your customers, don't always bombard them with offers. For example, ask them for feedback, give them some daily free health advice, do some webinars where they can ask you questions.

If you have time, you can also do the membership website and the people who join the website will also be added to your list.

And then.......there is Facebook marketing !

        So many ideas

The technical things are what I am lost on.. I am fairly up to speed with ideas and what not however I do not know where to start.

If I am to get my own list do I need my own server and storage? What software do I require...

These are the things i am asking about.

There are 3 main web pages you require to operate your ebook marketing business

    1. Sales page - a page that is created to catch the attention and interest of your visitor and to compel them to buy

    2. A download page - a page your buyer is taken to after they purchase your ebook. If you go with Clickbank as your payment processor (take your payment and acknowledge when you have a buyer), then you will need to give them both your sales page and your download page when you setup your ebooks

    3. Landing page/Squeeze Page - the idea here is to have one page that is designed to send "cold" traffic to (from forums, advertising if you do any, article resource links, social networking traffic, etc...) with the main focus of getting them to sign up to your list. What you do here is sign up with a list manager (Aweber or GetResponse are used quite extensively) - they will let you setup a list, setup pre-designed messages your subscribers will get and let you build a form that you can place on your squeeze page along with a headline, some benefit bullets of why they should sign up to your list. Typically you give away an e-course (a series of email messages that helps teach them something), a report that does the same, a mini-ebook, a video series, etc...

In addition to all of this, I highly recommend you setup your own blog and post daily as this will bring in traffic and get your sales rolling.

    Hi,

If you have expertise in the medical field, this is a great niche to start. It's high paying as you can imagine.

You can go a number of routes:
    • General medical sites: Monetize via adsense (Longterm).
    • Affiliate site (Sell someone elses products)
    • Create a product (Solve someones problem).

You can get started with Wordpress. It doesnt have to be a blog, you can set up information sites using pages instead of blog posts. You can also create landing pages in wordpress if you get the right theme.

The main focus though should probably be on giving people a quick fix to a ailment they have via an information product. People are always willing to pay for this.

You could also consider going the Kindle book route.

    Hope that helps.

nice, now i am beginning to understand.

I don't have certifications in this particular field however my e-books are first hand evidence of the problem and they will be backed by medical journals and research from textbooks; is this okay?

Also, can someone tell me where i save and store an e-mail list and the benefits of having one ?

          Thanks mate! Making sense now..

How should I go about creating my website? Yes I understand I also need a blog but the actual website... should that be with HTML/CSS ? Should I use dreamweaver and download a theme? I'm clueless here...

I suggest WordPress for a website. You can build both a "static" website or a blog or incorporate both in one (this is what I do mostly).

It's important to get your own domain and hosting account. Most web hosts have a "one click" WordPress install. There are many video tutorials that will walk you through every step. It's really not that hard. If an old hippie like myself can figure it out...

I'd definitely say go after a squeeze page. The "medical niche" is going to be broad as you can chase down several avenues.

But luckily, you'll already be well informed one most of the topics or know where to find answers. That being said, I would start making squeeze pages and sourcing information to those as you can probably write some up rather quickly, and will have lots of unique information because of your background.

All you have to do really is get the ball rolling. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, and have at it.

Opinions will vary. It depends on the type of site you build, and how you intend to produce your content (yourself or outsource), how you intend to get traffic, etc.

You don't want to pay for tools you aren't ready for yet.

If you intend to drive traffic to a site, you can start with very little content and build as you go. So you don't need all of your content ready first.

I'd say no to that in a big way.

In fact the idea is second, and the product/content is third. I wrote about this not too long ago here.

You should always start with your market first. Who is your market, where are they located (online and/or offline), and what problem are you solving?

Your idea will almost certainly change based on your market research. You need to know about your market before you spend time developing solutions.

Bingo. I bet money saving / fiscal advice blogs have massive audiences in the middle aged (moneyed) bracket. The site ads you could serve to that market have really high CPC - insurance, credit cards etc..

Serious money in that sector - put your attention there; your also very well qualified to talk about the subject.

Sweet. Writing articles and stuff aye?

I don't think writing e-books will best serve this market, if I am able to get decent traffic through this then I'll come back and ask the next best advice.

WOW! I'd be cautious there my friend.

Also, PMing people to offer them your services or direct them to affiliate programs is really considered bad form here. So this person has no problem doing shady things.

Woo Commerce has nice ecommerce themes that are cheaper than magento to get up and running. They support both physical products and digital products. I use them for both. They are as easy to manage as any Wordpress blog so if you haven't built sites yet, Wordpress may be the best option for you.

This isn't really new, infact many people are succeding at this.

The problem is that you are targeting the medical niche.

The medical niche is the most competitive niche and you should not go into it if you don't have a lot of start up cash and experience.

Also, you have to be an expert (ie. Doctor) for this field. I mean, you are giving HEALTH advice to people.
