Backing Up Your Files?

This may sound corny and outdated, but I use flash drives to back up my stuff. (now) I lost everything a few months ago, including my backup external drive because it was connected to my computer. Using the flash drives, I can remove them, scan them for viruses etc.

I use a cloud service but not for anything that is sensitive (and not on a flash drive....LOL) IMO, a cloud service is just like anything else and is vulnerable to attack. Thinking about it, these areas would be much more likely to be hacked because people think that they are "secure" and hackers know this .

Always keep your backups in more than one location.

It's definitely a great idea to backup your pc on and off site. I use Carbonite.

Everyone should back up there files especially if you store alot of files,data, and video. Currently Im using Backblaze. I got a discount off AppSumo for 1 year of unlimited storage for $25. Another good online backup service I hear about thats is also reasonably priced is My PC Backup.com

Backup everywhere any anything.
i may be a paranoid parrot but here's how I do it:
Backup in a folder on the same drive / backup on another internal drive / backup into an external hard drive and backup on a cloud.

You can never be to careful and it's always handy to have the latest files.

Anyone who is serious about their work should consider backups to be as essential as insurance would be to a jewelry store. Just think of what would happen if you lost your data! Yet amazingly I see a number of otherwise intelligent people who don't backup either their home office data or their websites.

I probably have the most sophisticated backup system of anyone here, but my requirements are rather unique. I have 6 computers to backup (and 4 more that only act as clients) as well as a streaming media server and a file storage server. The computers are a combination of Windows (every "flavor" from XP to Windows 8), Mac and Linux. One of the computers is a netbook and a couple of them are notebooks, and I keep their data synchronized so I can work remotely and have everything sync back up when I return to my home network.

I backup all data to the file server (which itself has mirrored hard drives) as well as synchronize it between 3 of the computers, I do the synchronization so that I can work on the notebooks or netbook if I experience a power failure (my UPS's will only give me 45 minutes without electricity). Then I do a daily backup of the file server itself to an Amaxon S3 bucket (I only backup the changed data to reduce bandwidth costs, as I'm speaking about a few terabytes of data to do a full backup).

I also run a Time Machine backup on my Macbook Pro to an attached 2TB Firewire drive, and the netbook does its own daily backup to an attached USB hard disk.

There is a program for Windows called Free File Sync that has been very useful in keeping the Windows boxes in sync. As its name implies it's free! Ubuntu's own Backup utility and a custom python script handle the sync and backup for my Linux machines, as well as the daily transfer to S3.

And to top it all off one of my older Windows XP machines has a new lease on life doing regular scheduled backups of the MySQL databases on a number of my WordPress sites, using nothing but the MySQL GUI Utility (the old version) and the Windows Scheduler.

This may all seem like an overkill to some people, but my data is my life and I would literally lose everything if something went wrong. And having gone through a major data disaster (see my one and only WF blog post from a few years back if you're curious) I am very familiar with what can happen if you don't backup.

And two years ago my main computer died while I was in the middle of a very critical project. If I hadn't had a backup it would have been horrible. But it was merely an inconvenience, I switched to another computer while it was being repaired and never lost a thing. All that effort paid off!

Back it up people! Can't stress that enough.

i use carbonite for my backup of my whole computer and a good old pen and notebook for my various passwords to sites.....its coded so i know what site it is lol

I backup pretty much everything:

My blogs with WP Twin/WP Twin Autobackup
My computer with Carbonite

I have lost files in the past and do everything I can to not have that happen again.

I utilize an external hard drive to backup all the necessary files and I have a cloud storage account. Best to have two options to avoid any problems down the road.

I use Dropbox. I paid one time for 100 Gigs and it saves to both the cloud and my local machine. The files are accessible from any machine with a web browser and you can also back it up to and external. It's pretty convenient and pretty sweet!

I also use DropBox for my PC files. It works well for me. I use BackupBuddy for my blogs as well - that backup goes to Amazon S3.

Back up everything without fail, use a quality Zip drive and put really important stuff on a flash drive as well.

Don't forget your websites either, if you ever had to rebuild one you never will again, it is soul-destroying, says the author looking at the pieces of his soul in a box on his desk.
