Depends on your goal. I always use pages for important things, such as main product reviews. I use posts for more general things or when I'm not promoting anything.

Really, you can do very well with just posts or just pages, but the best way to go is a combination of both.

I also heard thet somewhere but I don't think it really matters. I always use posts.

Its a pure affiliate site, the entire site is geared around 1 product.

I was going to use my articles to promote one of my keywords. I was going to write 30 articles 2 for each of my main keywords.

I think it was something to do with google not picking up posts but they do pick up pages.

For my blog I dont mind, I will be using posts obviously, but when this is my first site and I want to promote one product. I want to get it right

Yea the only thing holding me back is the navigation, I guess I can fix that with a little code touch up but we will see.

My articles will be as important next year as they are now so pages are the way to go. Cheers for the help

I believe it was Ryan Deiss who started telling people to use pages instead of posts about a year or so ago. I can't remember what his reasoning was for this but the post above by Dan seems to make perfect sense.

It depends on you.
Pages are usually used for important stuff of your site like your main menus unlike posts they are use for some SEO purposes or something promote on your site.

I built a site last year and noticed that pages seemed to rank better than posts, it may have been a coincidence as I was able to put in the time for extensive testing, Anyway with Panda and whatnot it may have skewed any meaningful data.
You should test this yourself, but wait until after the next 'jarring and jolting' update from our friends at G.

Here's something you can do: when you have created a lot of content under one category, let's say "List Building" then create one page called "List Building" as well. Write something general about list building and link to the posts under the category. See how your new page ranks and how it helps the posts gain authority.

I don't agree.

I use pages on my blog for those things that are constant and navigation-related. The "About Me," "Policies," "Contact," "Subscribe," etc are all pages on my blog.

I use posts for my content because posts can be tagged, archived, categorized, put into a chronology and included in an RSS feed. Posts are designed to fit under a content category and pages are not.

But don't take my word for it, read what Wordpress.com offers:

"Posts:
Posts are what make your blog a blog -- they're servings of content, similar to journal entries, listed in reverse chronological order. Posts can be as short or as long as you like; some are as brief as Twitter updates, while others are the length of essays.

Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological order on the blog home page or on the posts page if you have set one in Settings > Reading. If you have created any sticky posts, those will appear before the other posts. Posts can be found in the Archives, Categories, Recent Posts, and other widgets. Posts are also displayed in the RSS feed of the blog. You can control how many posts are displayed at a time in the Reading Settings. Pages:
Pages, on the other hand, are best suited for more timeless content that you want your visitors to be able to easily access, like your About Me or Contact sections.

Pages are static and are not listed by date. Pages do not use tags or categories. An About page is the classic example. Pages can be displayed in the sidebar using the Pages widget, and some themes display pages in tabs at the top of the blog. Alright I think iv got it.

So the main page with the main content and item on it is a page.

The rest of the content targeted at my keyword are posts.

I seem to over complicate everything in my head!
