What's IM To You?

Hey Warriors,
It's been a while since i wrote a thread but here goes, while in the bar having a little fun with my friends, a really close friend of mine who works full time as an Internet Marketer, challenged me to earning money online, we were both a little drunk and I feeling a little little head and confident from the couple bottles i had i foolishly accepted the challenge. Next day when i woke up sobered up by now i remembered i had made a really stupid mistake in accepting that challenge. Regardless i have never took back a challenge so i started surfing around the internet and what i had thought to be really easy at first was turning out to be one of the toughest things i have faced in life. Cut the story short a couple months down the road after a bunch of sleepless nights and long hours on the computer i made my first sale it was a ridiculously insane feeling. To me IM began as an accomplishment but you tend to fall in love with it after a while so now its more like a hobby. What is it to you?

  • IM is the new age business trend. It's as good as a brick and mortar offline business if you know how to manage and take care of it.
  • @denhinn - Although 2 months and FIRST sale may feel like a long time I have spoken to (and helped) people in the past that haven't made a CENT in 2-5 years. Some of these folks have spent in excess of $10,000 on products, services and courses without actually realizing any form of return. If you want to do really well you can't have the mindset or viewpoint that it's a hobby. On the other hand, if you just want to generate a few dollars here and there and have fun, then that's great too. Ultimately everyone gets what they want, whether they realize it consciously or not!

    • A hobby is something that you love to do, it can be a game, sleeping, reading............... you get the idea, but if your job is your hobby then that is different because if it is that means you spend most of your time doing it, and if you spend most of your time doing it, then you become really good at it, which in turn gives you back prolonged results only destined to become bigger than anything you ever expected.
  • As for me,IM is like an opportunity to involve in business.We can start with a little capital unlike brick & mortar type of business.
  • IM is a lifestyle and a way of living that sucks when you don't know what you're doing and you feel like everyone else is earning except you... But when you hit the right buttons, built a system and scaled up you're in for the financial freedom you've always wanted. It is more than just a hobby, it is a modern aged business.
  • Expanding further on this. A lot of people looking to get into IM will either be working part or full-time. I was one of them and I wouldn't mind betting the vast majority of people would love to quit their regular day job and go into IM as both a lifestyle and a business. It's not for everyone though and some people enjoy the perceived security of work or the comradery they experience with their colleagues. There are intangibles in place you don't consider until you are no longer doing it (personally I only miss the occasional banter but I have replaced that with people that I want to associate with outside of work - so everyone's a winner ). Here is how my life differs from when I worked the 'day' job.

    Day Job: MON-FRI - Get up at 6:30am. Start work at 8AM and finish at 5PM. I had a boss I couldn't stand and I was dealing with 50-100 customers a day. It was the least satisfying thing in the world and I did it for years. I got typecast into the role. Whenever I would go for a different job, they would look at my CV and say "We have opportunities doing 'X'. I would say, "What about "Y" I have the qualifications and aptitude to do "Y", to which they replied, "Sorry no openings in "Y" but if you want to do "X" then we have clients who have a position available". In the end I was no longer interested in "Y" I just wanted OUT!

    Now I have no boss to answer to, I don't HAVE to get up at 6:30am and if I want to break the day up by catching up with someone, going shopping or hitting the gym, I CAN. I am FREE and I would never trade that in for anything again. If I want to go on vacation I don't have to see if work will "LET ME". Is it still work? Yes it is. Does it feel like work? Hell no, not compared with the day job. In my case I did a job my heart wasn't in and the only thing I liked about it was conversing with and helping people. IM gives you the opportunity to change both your life and other people's lives. Honestly, how do you put a price on that?

    Final Thought: To do all this you have to be ready. I am not talking about having skills in place or knowledge, you can learn all that stuff. What you do need is the right mindset and a 'CAN-DO' attitude. The only limitations as to what we can do or achieve are those limitations we place upon ourselves. Over and out

  • @Denhinn - You're having fun with it so you see it as a hobby. I'm not being pedantic at all, but a hobby is not your job or main occupation. If you spend most of your time doing it to the point where it's your principle pursuit and you're trying to build it into something and make a living with it, then it's not a hobby. It may feel like a hobby to you, but it's not one. Dictionary.com's definition of a hobby - "A or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a ".

    • I LOVE IM. The way its changing with tremendous pace. It throws challenges everyday. Which I love a lot.

    • Take your time on whatever part of IM you chose to pursue, learn slow but make sure to comprehend and practise each and every thing you learn consistently, because one false move might be the lead factor to you getting a sale or not, and dont forget to have fun with it, dont stress yourself on when your first sale is going to come its coming at a time when you least expect it.

  • IM to me is a way to use all my talents to market my products online and offline to get me where i want to be in life. Having your own business and building a legacy to pass on to my kids is very important to me.
  • It is a business and until you treat it that way you will never , make a Good amount of money online. It can be a hobby, but it will be very hard to succeed and will more likely cost you money,

  • IM is a dream, Succeeding at it will allow me to replace my work income and work from home enabling me to spend more time with my family.

  • IM is my ticket to freedom. Though I loved my day job too which was related to the IM field, but leaving it and starting on my own gave me much needed flexibility and financial freedom. And I appreciate it much more now after having a baby this year. Can't imagine how I could have managed a full time day job with a newborn.
  • To me IM is my road to become a millionaire, I sued to make money one-time income selling e-books, now I am working something to provide me with an passive income.
  • It is a chance to show people the way businesses should be run no matter how small, so they can reach a global audience!
  • I think the main thing with IM and in fact with just about every way to make money online (there are many besides IM) is the freedom. You work when you want, where you want.

    • Now that you said that i've always wondered what people meant when they say you get lonely from time to time from working at home. I've never experienced this.

  • Quite Simply, I think I would use Hunter S. Thompson's quote about the music industry, only in this case, simply substitute the keyword 'music industry' with 'internet marketing'
    "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
  • It is my love. If I had no need for money I would still do it as the whole process is amazing. We make money by pushing buttons and meeting new people. Doesn't get better than that for me. Not to mention the extra time with my family.
