The owner of Flippa listened to me... $9 listing fees for new sites!!

Hey all..
This is good news for all website flippers, I was in contact with Dave, the owner of flippa and I was telling him about very high fees when selling new sites, so you don't make a profit. Well, he's listened to me... And probably many other people that have said the same.

Listing fees for NEW sites are $9 with a 15% success fee.
Listing fees for established sites are $29 with a 5% sucess fee.

What are your thoughts on this?

Personally I think it's ready good move for flippa, and I will use them again.

I think this is a really good move for Flippa. I'm not thrilled about the 15% success fee but, overall, it's definitely A LOT better than the old price structure!

The flood gate is open again.

    With $9 listing fee
    15% success fee

If a site is sold for $25

    Revenue = $25
    15% success fee = $3.75
    Listing fee = $9
    Domain fee = $10
    PayPal fee = $1.03

If you don't include time spent and the templates website you bought

Wow, break even price is about $25

    More junk ahead!

Not really, the success fee is capped at $10 minimum.

        I see, thanks for highlighting

        So break even price: $30.20

        X = $9 (listing) + $10 (success) + $10 (domain) + [ X(2.9%) + $0.30] (paypal transaction)

$9 for listing a new site isn't bad and highly encouraged but 15% success fee for new site that we all know can not be reasonably price, is absurd!

    15% success fee? Damn man!
So i assume this applies to domain names as well.
if you get to sell it for $50. - $9 -$10 - $7.50 = 23.50 - paypal fees. Thats the profit you are looking at.
    Great but not superb.
Rather sell it on the warrior forum on the website for sales area. Profit would have been $30

Doesn't it apply to warrior forum as well? Going by your example it will be $50 - $20 - $7.5(assuming this is domain name fees) = $23.75 - paypal fees?

I never thought much of Flippa, there are basically 2 kinds of sellers on there. Those that sell junk sites, cookie cutter, carbon copy sites, with no back links, pr, no traffic and those that think there site is worth 50X what it really is worth. My favorite is when I see people asking huge amounts for domain names because it has one generic keyword in it.

There might be some worth buying stuff in there, but I have never been able to find it.

It's good until your new site reaches more than $200. I have seen new sites selling $500+, now the fee on that is $75 + $9 = $84 in fees.

Before the change for a new site the fees would be $29 + $25 = $54

      That is a $30 difference.

Oh come on. Flippa did a grand flippa move. You now pay $9 up front and a whopping 15% success fee on the back end if your site sells with this new pricing arrangement.

It could actually now cost you more to list a new site, depending on how much your site sells for. This is no price reduction. It's just flipping the cost from the front end to the hind end.

Your site has to sell for $200 or less, or your overall costs are higher due to that 15% success fee.

    On a $100 sale:
    $29 listing, $5 success fee = $34
    $9 listing, $15 success fee = $24

    On a $200 sale:
    $29 listing, $10 success fee = $39
    $9 listing, $30 success fee = $39

    On a $400 sale:
    $29 listing, $20 success fee = $49
    $9 listing, $60 success fee = $69

    On a $600 sale:
    $29 listing, $30 success fee = $59
    $9 listing, $90 success fee = $99

Unfortunately, it's pretty much the only option right now if you want to get a decent price for your work.
I'm not saying you can't find success with other similar sites, but Flippa is by far your best bet.

How do they differentiate between a new and established site? Is this stated by the seller or judged by domain age, PR, income etc?

I'd heard about this - and was initially excited. Although reading through some of the maths on here, I can see how it could also be annoying.

The website doesn't seem to mention an explicit definition between existing and new. Vague description here that implies you will just choose yourself:

      https://support.flippa.com/entries/2...-a-new-website

Obviously if you expect less than $200 it's all good. I was particularly interested, because my concern would be that new sites might not sell at all - and $29 is a big loss if it fails to sell (and yes, I would only contemplate selling decent sites - just am aware that some don't sell - or seller fails to pay, etc).

I guess if you expect to earn more than $200, then it might be worth waiting a little while longer before listing - so you can claim it's existing.

I am happy with this because, it becomes less of a worry if either you dont sell the site for much or if the site does not sell at all not another 29$. I use to sell sites when the fee was 19$ and 5% of the site. Those where the days

I really don't think that there is any wrong regarding the current decision of flippers. If you calculated it closely then it would be win win situation at the end for both parties.

How's that? It isn't a price reduction. It's a price increase if your site sells for more than $200.

I'd like to see a site where selling domain names and Web sites was a reasonable price.

Perhaps totally free up to $200 selling price, then say, $10 up to $500, $20 up to $1000, and so on.

The sofware for such a site can be free, hosting can be cheap.

I don't think there is any real money to be made by selling new sites anyway. So the changes are really useless in my opinion. $9 listing fee plus 15% will basically balance out to the normal $29 listing fee plus 5%! I don't see the value in either unless you've got a gem of a site for sale.

For defining what is new vs what is established I found this:

"New Website listings are suitable for brand-new, turnkey, or template websites. These listings may not claim traffic or revenue. If your website generates either traffic or revenue, please choose the Established Website option above."

So it just sounds like if you have zero traffic and revenue = new site.
