Should I use this .TV domain?

Fellow Warriors,

Got myself in a bit a odd situation here. I'd appreciate any input from you guys

I'm launching a live video streaming website soon and I've been having a hell of a time trying to think of a brand name/url name.

Here's the rundown:

I purchases 2 domain names, domain A and domain b, which both end in .TV. I was going to use domain A but after I found out that the .com version of the name already exists and also has a product line under its belt, I immediately changed my mind.

Domain b also has a .com version but it's just a parked page and the actual name itself hasn't been branded or has any products affiliated with it.

I'm 50/50 to use Domain b now. I can't come up with a better name and the .com version does expire soon. Would you use domain B even though the .com version is taken from someone else?

Thanks,
Brandon

Backorder .com of domain B first. Then if you fail to get it, just continue to build your .tv site.

Ever notice that people who spend money on WSO, memberships and courses, are always complaining about being broke and not making any money ?

They should have bought ASSETS instead.

Come up with a new name with the .com and the .tv avaliable and lock both of the domains down.

      I agree with this.

I'd be fairly uneasy about building a business on a domain of which the .com variant already belongs to someone else. The fact that it's parked now doesn't mean it'll stay that way indefinitely (perhaps especially when you become successful?). At some point, you're going to lose traffic to the owner of the .com, perhaps? And then there's the potential resale value to think about, as well?

I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't use a .tv domain, of course, if you want to, but I'd want to register its matching .com myself, as well.

It's been eating me alive trying to come up with a better name with both .com and .tv. Domain b seems to be registered to www.register.com, which seems like a pro domain company so I have a feeling they won't be letting it go upon expiry. I could try and contact them to sell it but it may cost an arm and a leg.

Domain A was soundstream.tv. Let's just say my site has to do with music and live streaming. If someone's really bored and can lend part of their brain, please shoot some ideas

    Cheers

As you are looking to launch a online streaming channel, TV domain can be a very good option for you.

I'd use the option b tv domain if I liked it enough. No need to have the .com if you're going to build a site on the tv domain, especially if the .com is currently parked. You would be the first to actually use the domain since the .com is parked and may be for quite some time.

This is what I'm thinking as well but I do risk losing traffic to the .com domain in time. I tried contacting the .com owner to see if they will sell it but I'm certain it won't be cheap

Why would you lose traffic to them? Just about every great domain name has multiple people owning all the different extensions and all doing their own thing on them.

I would think that a lot of people would mistakenly go to the .com domain instead of .tv. I guess that's where my marketing would come into play.

I would think most great domain owners own the .com and various people own the others like .net, .org, .info etc but not the other way around.

I guess it's up to me to evaluate if the .tv domain is strong enough to pursue without owning the .com

          Thanks!

That depends on how they get to your site. Most people get to a site via a link, so you wouldn't lose any traffic that way.

IMO, TV is a great domain for video related sites.
