Hi warriors,

Just wanted to let you know about this:

Right now at a UN meeting in Dubai, authoritarian regimes are pushing for full governmental control of the Internet in a binding global treaty -- if they succeed, the internet could become less open, more costly and much slower. We have only 2 days to stop them.

Worse. The UN is trying to export the China Model of government and population control to the Western World. Simple as that. You notice that the UN is not trying to elevate the access of a billion + folks in China, rather they are trying to take us in the Western World and restrict our access to mimic more like what the Politburo of China does.

The western oligarchs behind the scenes that actually run the world and funded and put Mao in place want that too. Get us back into serfdom. The internet can start revolutions against authoritarian regimes - we can't have that now, can we? Not if the UN (funded and created and still run by the oligarchs I referenced) wants to achieve its goal of One World Government.

Can't have one world government if you cannot extend power over us Citizens and our communications with each other.

Yeesh, down with the doomsday speak. That's a ridiculously paranoid view of the situation.

Seeing that the largest players in the game are based out of the US and they themselves are opposed ratifying such a regulation, I don't think we have much to worry about.

If this does get implemented, the only thing end users would have to worry about are higher internet fees. The 'regulation' they talk about consists of imposing a tax on online service providers. The 'end of the world threat' to free speech is limited at best. As if governments don't already limit free speech over the internet. Just last month, a girl in India was arrested for a mild facebook comment about a political figure.

It's easy to hop on the bandwagon and be up in arms about the implications but I'd like to hear more grounded arguments about how it impacts us as end users.

I wish it were that simple...but unfortunately, in games where the stakes are this high...the real evidence will always take discernment to interpret...all of the "simple arguments and evidences" are the first to be covered over...and quite easily I might add.

Interestingly, is "labeling" it as a "conspiracy theory" part of the "cover-up"? Its just like turning something into an "ism"...it cheapens it in the minds of people and makes it not "fashionable" to believe, and "cool" not to believe...an old, old, old tactic.

So you think you can affect the outcome of a U.N. meeting with a petition 8 days after this meeting began? You saw this on Avaaz - so it must be a crisis?

It is a bit of a crisis - but an online petition isn't going to do anything about it. This has been in process since last spring and now all we can hope is U.N. representatives from govts against this idea will prevail.

This subject has been discussed here several times - and explained in detail. It seems to me that some sites like Avaaz are using this only to flog interest for their sites.

...and people will post "I signed" without seeming to know what it is they are protesting against.

Most people don't realize this, but all of this fits right in with that crazy ol' NWOCT that people have been preaching for the last 100 or so years...kinda odd really...

  • I already signed the petition. I can definitely relate to this because the Philippine government tried to do the same thing with their Cybercrime law a few months ago. The Phil government is even petitioning our Supreme Court right now in hopes of reviving the law.

      Hi,

Excuse my apparent apathy but totalitarian movements don't tend to be brought down by petitions.

If you really want to make a difference, there are ways, but they (generally) can't be spoken. Passive, non-violent 'disobedience' and self education are a good starting point.

It's up to you to explore and enact on them if that is your wish, but I'm just pointing out that you can't fight a forest fire with a thimble of water because that's precisely where they'd like you to expend your anger and energy. Don't take the bait.

Is it just internet freedom that you're concerned about, or is it also the other 1001 assaults on your pretend liberty that are happening today as well?

Nothing to worry about. The internet will still go strong and forever. No one has the power to shut it down. Many governments oppose this anyway.

Really? Go to China and try to surf the sites you surf from your home up to the north of me and say the same thing. You think the Politburo of China lacks a kill switch for when their next Tianemem Square occurs? You think if you live in China you can go to youtube and watch a video of that cat with the ginormous brass balls standing in front of that tank in the Square? Have you not been listening to people in the governments of the western world, like the US, like the UK, etc., that are talking about a 'cut-off' switch? About the POTUS talking about Internet ID's?

I think real world evidence we can all see counters your nonchalance about this effectively.

Make no mistake that what power may not exist in the western world to shut down the net is desperately being sought by our governments. Listen to them tell you this, not me. Google can help facilitate them telling you this, to hear it straight from the horses mouth instead of mine. But, they can already shut it down if they want - they just don't think we will tolerate it without revolt.

Would you and I tolerate it? No.

But we don't have the guns, do we? The governments do ...

My government, a government who's power is restrained by things like The Bill of Rights, already eavesdrops and monitors every single letter I type and send on the net. My government is reading this post, spying on me, collecting and storing data. The NSA is intertwined with the net and has been since its inception. Companies like AT&T have been complicit in these issues.

Any opposition comes from select members of government, not the whole of the government.

1984 ain't no joke - it just hasn't been fully rolled out yet.

So sayeth the uninformed and unstudied. Years ago, my response probably would have been more harsh than yours in implying 'ridiculousness'. I ain't talking about an apocalypse jake, nor paranoia. I am talking about behind the scenes power structures that have been in place for centuries.

I took a step back at one point and really studied the history of the power structure of our world. It was eye opening to say the least. Make no mistake that those in charge, the oligarchical families and institutions that have been in power for centuries, count on people like you. They count on you both to ignore the reality of how our world operates, and has been, continuously, for centuries upon centuries, and to dismiss knuckleheads like me as 'paranoid' and 'crazy' when I spread the truth.

I encourage you to research the things about which I speak with an open mind ... you might just scare the hell out of yourself and go through a bit of an awakening about the reality of the world in which we live.

You might suggest me crazy if I tell you that The Wizard of Oz is actually a book on political commentary, not a cute little story about a girl from Kansas. Oz - abbreviation for ounce. The whole story, the yellow brick road (gold) is about the gold standard and the arguments of the time about backing our money with silver instead of gold.

And the Wizard behind the curtain? Why was that part of the story, the political commentary? Well, people have understood how the world really works long before I was born. People have known for centuries about the curtain. It has been written about and talked about for a long, long time. I know the curtain exists and people are behind it. You however, deny the existence of such a curtain. It ain't that hard to see jake, you just gotta open your eyes and look for it. That's the easy part. The difficulty comes from trying to figure out who is behind the curtain.

To combat this kind of stuff effectively, stuff like Internet Censorship by government and governmental bodies like the UN, one needs understand its source. Where these notions come from and who is pushing them.

Precisely which governments are opposed to governmental regulation and control of the net? More regulations are passed every year on internet usage. Try being an Amazon Affliate in Colorado. You can't 'cause of governmental control over what happens between myself and another consenting, private party online.

The pressure is working -- the dangerous proposal from Russia and others to empower individual states to censor and filter the Internet has been defeated. While negotiations are moving in the right direction, the threat remains that this conference could seek to assert greater government regulation over the Internet and endanger our privacy and freedom of expression online -- let's keep growing our call, while we are delivering our voices today in Dubai!
