Solo-ads for targeted traffic?

I came across a free report where someone suggested that I could improve my list count by paying others with big lists to send ads to their subscribers (solo-ads) That would roughly cost around $30 per 100 clicks. The report suggested that I could use this method to direct visitors to a squeeze page through which I can then get more subscribers to my list. My thought is that this could be a great way of earning short term money. I could simply pick a good product to promote at clickbank. Attempt to create a landing page with some very good content that pushes the visitors towards the affiliate link, contact a guy who has a list of subscribers who are interested in that particular niche and ask him to send out ads containing link to that landing page. Now clickbank pays a higher range of commissions for the affiliates and if I manage to do my homework right, then I may be getting a decent ROI through this method. Of course there is a chance that it is $30 down the drain but I am a bit excited about this method (maybe being stupid I know) and would like the advice of experienced marketers whether this method is feasible?

$30 per 100 clicks is a bit much. You're probably better off swapping list ad space with other marketers targeting the same niche. It doesn't involve any money and only costs you one mail blast.

Hm, I thought $0.30 per click as become an accepted industry average for solo ads?

However, I'd agree that if you're just starting out or can't afford to lose the $30, to rather do ad swaps (in case you already have a couple of people on your list, obviously...)

This is the exact business model a lot people use to build their list.

However, there are ways to stop it being $30 down the drain.

Set up an OTO on the thank you page. If you spend $30 on a solo ad and you can make $30 on your OTO, you've grown your list for free.

I know that is a simplistic view (and the reality of setting it up is more complex) but that's the basic plan.

Don't forget, once someone is on your list, you can promote offers to them at a later date, further reducing your cost.

    Hi everyone,

I think solo ads a good way of doing business. And as it was said you can set up an OTO and break even.

And if you've got a subscriber on your list if you will build relationship with him/her you can earn a lot of money.

    I wish you luck

All the best and see you on top.

    Erwin.

$30 is about right for 100 clicks but you need to check with the seller that this is with a buyers list and that they are not just placing your squeeze page after their own or just a link for your squeeze on their download page. If they are a big solo seller they may also be using a rotator, they wont tell you so make sure you ask.

    Good Luck

Thank you for the replies. As I said, I am more interested in the possibility of directing the potential visitors straight towards a landing page where I attempt to soft sell a product instead of building a list or offering a freebie. For example I pick a product to promote from clickbank (or here through warriorplus), publish a page where I soft-sell or pre-sell the product with a link to the sales page and if my copy and the sales page is good, then the visitor may purchase the product and thus earning me commission. Of course it is not as easy as I make it out here and there are a number of factors to consider, with the major factor being money. It was just an idea that came in my mind as I was going through various blogs/forums about IM

Depends on the cost of your offer whether your idea will work well. That, and of course, the list you're buying a solo ad from. Anything $20 or more and you may find it tough to make sales the way you're describing. The cheaper stuff can sell this way as it's more impulse, but obviously your commissions are going to be pretty low too.

If you're offering something inexpensive, better have some other offers that you can later sell to them otherwise you're not going make enough money for this idea to be worthwhile. Here's one way to make some small sales repeatedly using your idea: resell Fiverr services. Once they buy from you once, they are on your list and if you're using only the top-rated Fiverr providers as suppliers, you'll get repeat business. You also can upsell them a little bit off of a $10 or $15 initial sale too.

solo ads do work well but there is a lot more to it than just buying a solo ad and sending all the traffic to a squeeze page

if you don't have a front end offer and funnel that converts fairly well then you're going to
find it very difficult to make them pay

100% agree. There needs to be some enticement for them to even sign up for your list instead of a simple squeeze page that doesn't say much. Nothing wrong with including an offer right up front and then the join-my-list as secondary.

You need potential buyers who are interested enough in the offer to join a list, not people that don't get enough ads in their mailboxes already and want to join yet another list.

I disagree with anyone who recommends doing solo ads.

Can you make a quick buck? Sometimes.

The leads you will get though will end up being sold/emailed so many times and have no long-term value for you.

Burn and churn comes into mind with these types of leads and something I disagree with doing.

    Makes the industry looks crappy.

Solo ads can be great if you make sure they target your market right and do actually get you the numbers promised, I have paid for a few and generally done ok although 1 or 2 have drawn nothing, so just make sure you check up on things first to make sure they are who they say.

Yes, you have to find a reputable list owner. And you have to have a very good pitch. I would start with as little as possible and build up from there.

Solo ads can be a good way of generating traffic.

However, you need a funnel in place which means you need an OTO(one time offer)
to be presented to your subscribers right after they subscribe to cover the costs.

$0.30 is a bit cheap for solo ads, seriously

plus, the solo ad industry is not what it was 4 months ago.

    My suggestion?

$30 is not a big loss, this is how we learn, we try and if we fail we stand up and keep fighting.

    It's up to you man.
