How Do I Convert Single Opt-Ins To Double Opt-Ins At A Higher Rate?

Hey warriors,

I just built my first ever squeeze page and am starting to send some traffic at it using solo ads with some alright success.

I just purchased a 100 click solo and gained 59 opt-ins with only 28 doubles.

My question is how do i better the double conversions. I currently just have the generic aweber confirm page, was thinking of setting up a better confirm page to see what results that gets.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance

I think it'll get better results, Vicky.

Explain clearly to subscribers, as soon as they've submitted their email address, in words and with pictures, that your first email might go into their junk/spam folder and that they need to look for it there, whitelist your "sent-from" email address (and how to do that), and so on.

The proportion of people not confirming their email address varies hugely according to the traffic demographics. In niches like "IM" and "MMO" people are familiar with it. If your opt-in is on a knitting-patterns site, many of your customers won't be familar with it and won't work out what to do.

It's possible, with sufficient care, to get the confirmation-rate up to about 90%, but it isn't always easy at all.

I now use single opt-in, myself. I find it has many advantages, and that many of the alleged "disadvantages" of it claimed by confirmed-opt-in enthusiasts aren't actually disadvantages at all but are simply based on misconceptions. Just my perspective.

That said, if I were in any IM/MMO niches, I'd use confirmed opt-in, for sure.

Hey alexa, thanks for the advice
I think i will try creating a new confirm page that clearly tells them what to do. Should bump up the rate a bit.

    1. I would recommend using single optin. This is a feature inside of Aweber BUT a list that has already started collecting subscribers can not be changed back to single optin. So you would need to create a new list and make sure you select single optin before getting any subscribers.

    2. If you are asking for both the name and email field I would drop the name field and just ask for their email. This is one way to increase the overall number of optins.

    3. On your squeeze page you can make it clearer that the freebie will be delivered to their inbox via email. This means they are less likely to put in junk email addresses because they know they will not access the freebie unless they enter a valid email.

    4. On the page you send them to after confirmation make a quick video or a text and image tutorial showing them exactly how to go and confirm their email address. Sometimes just telling and showing people what to do can make a big difference.

Hey will, great advice as always thank you. The one and only reason that i didn't make it single opt-in was that i thought it was frowned upon by aweber. I am planning on building a massive list and didn't want to get the account deleted as i have heard that can happen a lot with single opt-ins.

Obviously if it is ok to build a list this way i will be changing it within a couple of minutes if someone can confirm that this right. Will make my dollar go a lot further

      Thanks heaps

        Vicki,

I've never heard of someone having their account deleted for using single optin. That's not to say it hasn't happened but I would hope not. I don't see the logic in them doing that. If they really didn't want people to use that feature then they wouldn't offer it. I don't think they hate single optin, they just prefer double optin because it helps their overall deliverability rate. But plenty of the big companies only use single optin for their newsletter lists, etc. So long as you have the ip record of every subscriber which happens whether it is single or double optin, then you should never have an issue.

Yeah thanks will, i actually had the same thought. Why would the option be there if they didn't like it. Well just made my day. Off to change up a few things,

          Thanks heaps warriors
