Squidoo lens length to stay featured?

I have an Amazon site which is about 18 months old, but it isn't making any sales. It seems like it was affected by the Penguin update on April 24th because it did make a couple of sales before that date.

I was wondering, if I move the content to Squidoo is it best to create seperate lenses for each review or is it better to just create one lens and put all the reviews there. Each review is approx 600 words long.

In my experience with Squidoo, even when I've filled out all the 5 modules with unique content, when I log back in a few weeks later the lens is non-featured and turned from green to red which is a pain. Would having reviews on one lens prevent this or would the potential for traffic not be as good as seperate lens?

Dont use the same content if it is still indexed in your old site.

My advice is that you should create one lens, pack it with at least 20-30 unique product reviews with a total word count of 3-4000. I don't think you should have 600 words reviews, you'll be okay with 100-250 words as well.

The key factor is to force the visitors to click on your links - once they are on Amazon and they buy anything, you'll get a commission. That's why it's very important to use BIG and beautiful pictures of the products.

Another advice: update your lenses often, at least once a week. Just write a new short review, add or replace some tags, add a new module, etc. Squidoo (and Google) likes fresh content.

Squidoo lenses don't generate money on autopilot. If you want to earn, you need to work on your lenses at least a couple of hours a week.

You should create separated lenses for each review. Add many pictures with information about the Amazon product you are promoting.

You may be able to find the same product also in other online stores. You should create a review lens giving to the reader the chance to buy this product from different places, and be an affiliate of all these providers if you can find it somewhere else. Your lens will have better chances to be successful if you’ll seem to be a sincere reviewer, then if you'll seem to be only a seller who is supposedly reviewing a product.

You should always add a negative point and then, give a solution. I’m not an expert on reviews but I’ve read a few things about it.

I know a lot about Squidoo and this is why I’m answering your questions.

When you create a lens, you have to promote it, especially in the beginning. Otherwise, it won't get traffic and this is why it becomes red.

Visit other lenses and leave comments and likes. Many lensmasters will do the same and leave comments and likes at your lenses.

Whenever you get a comment, you should ping your lens at pingomatic.com, and you should also ping your lens when you update it.

You must frequently update your lenses with a new picture or something different, whatever, and ping them, so that they may have a good lensranking and get traffic.

Your review is only 600 words, but you can make it become a 1000 word article by adding your opinion or other people’s comments, and this fact will help your lens seem to give more information to the reader.

Squidoo keeps making changes and it has many rules that you must follow, but it’s a good way to get traffic. I’m using it as a traffic generating method and it’s helping me, but I don’t know how it works about sales. I’ve sold a few Amazon products by chance, but I have never received any check from Amazon yet – I don’t even know how many sales I have to make to see it happening. I’m using Squidoo to promote my own products and send traffic to my links, without having time to care about promoting affiliate products. I have a few of them at each lens more as a decoration than because I have the intention to sell these products.

You should also participate of the Squidu forum and post your lenses’ links there when you’ll find a thread entitled: ‘post your new creations’ or something like that. You may get some traffic and comments or likes this way. Read many things at this forum so that you may learn how to do things.

Visit many lenses that give you free lessons about how to create perfect business lenses, so that you may create the best lenses you can from the beginning, without making mistakes that you will have to correct later.

    @clever7. Thanks for the info.

As I understand, Squidoo requires unique content so would I need to ensure that they content is no longer indexed in Google, Bing and Yahoo before moving it from my site? Does Squidoo look in all 3 major search engines to ensure its unique.

Also, is there any particular reason why you say to create a seperate lens for each review rather than just one lens?

It is definitely best to create seperate lenses for each review. The goal is to promote a product in each review with a compelling lens content. Unlike putting all reviews into one lens, one review in one lens allows others to post comment or remark to that particular item or product being reviewed.

You will have to add more content when your lens goes from green to red. It worked for me.

You can use content already used elsewhere in a lens, but it won't be considered original and this lens won't help you become a Giant Squid.

You must be intelligent and create lenses with original content that will have a better lensrank. This is necessary also because this way you will be able to become a Giant Squid after creating 25 lenses, and this way you'll have many advantages at Squidoo.

Don’t create too many lenses because you won't have the time to update and ping all lenses all the time to improve their ranking, but you should create at least 25 lenses with original content to be able to become a Giant Squid because of all the advantages you’ll have – like being allowed to post many links that go to the same domain, without being limited.

In order to create original content you only have to rewrite your reviews in different words. This is very simple. You don’t need to begin again and write something totally different from the review you have already written for your site. Simply use different terms, add your personal observations, make it a little bit different.

You should create a separate lens for each review about a certain product because this way you will attract targeted traffic; in other words, your lens will attract the visitors who care about the product you are promoting, and not just curious visitors.

Don’t create lenses that are too long. It is better to share the information in separate lenses that will have a content that will be around 1000 – 1500 words than to create too long lenses with 6000 words. The public doesn’t like too long lenses, unless your topic is very, very interesting, which is rare. A very long lens becomes boring at a certain point.

I have a few very long lenses because they are about social issues or because I wanted to give a general lesson to my readers, and I see that they are not as successful as lenses that are not so long.

On the other hand, too short lenses don’t attract the public either. If you'll just write two paragraphs nobody will respect your lens. You must write more.

Squidoo is definitely showing a way to a different way of affiliate marketing that is proving to be panda proof....

I wouldn't use the content from my site on one but to be fair it doesn't take long to knock out a review....

to be featured, your lens has to be ranked less than 400 000. There are many factors that affect squidoo ranking, but one of the most important is traffic. if your lens has visitors you have nothing to worry about. updates may work too, but it's not that critical to compare with lens hits. that's from my experience anyway
