How to be personal, without devulging privacy?

Here is the thing: I suffer from a condition that is something I want to keep private, but I am writing about. I am wondering how I can show improvement, but if it is a neurological condition that is hard to pinpoint a definite improvement on a chart or something like that? I guess my question is how do I sell my improvement, without any tangible proof, or without revealing anything identifiable?

I was thinking I could still use visuals, but more in a cartoon sense. What do you think of that? Like have a sad little hobo, and tell people that it was me before, then have a superman like guy after showing how I feel after? Would that be a good idea? I am open for suggestions.

How do you sell your improvement without any tangible proof? I would act as if it is a given that if I said or wrote something that people will accept it as truth. I think once you have a basically honest style coming through in your writing people will give you the benefit of the doubt.

If it is a product that you are selling and there is a guarantee offered again it will help you with credibility and selling the idea that your customer has nothing to lose by shopping with you.

So, you want people to give you their hard earned money, trust you and identify with you and your condition without knowing or seeing who you are? Oh, and present proof in the way of a cartoon...

    Good luck with that...

That said, isn't that what loads of people do? I mean seriously, some people build 10s of lists and they are certainly far from being an expert on some or even many. So many people use writers to make their ebooks and market them as if it were them. Just to give you one example, there are publishing companies out there who write ebooks to cater to many different fields, using I would imagine hired writers.

No, I told my story, and presented how I changed, but I guess can I do that without telling them my real name or information that would give away my identity? I explained how it changed my life, but not who I am. I was just wondering if that is fine, or no?

Dude, anyone can tell a story... To make it worth anything the reader has to be able to relate and connect with YOU. The fastest way to do that is by giving them YOU.

Would you do that if you had herpes? And your book was about herpes?

I wouldn't be writing a book about herpes to begin with. There's nothing in it after you solve their problem.

I wouldn't be selling anything about herpes unless I was a trained professional.

    • I also suffered with Herpes and what I did was find a cure. That was my main focus and I understand that you don't want to show people you because neither did I so what I did is stop being ashamed. I made mistakes in my younger years which we all do. What I want you to do is check out my website and click on the link at the bottom once you read my story. Once you click on the link at the bottom you will be let to my full website there are also doctor's you can talk over the phone with or you can go into their chat room. Believe me if it worked for me it will work for you to. Becoming Disease Free

You can take on a persona - similar to a pen name - and market your brand under that persona.

That is exactly what Eben Pagan (David Deangelo) did and to a lesser extent, what Frank Kern does.

Ok. Any suggestions on marketing something like autism? I can't really think of anything physical that can prove my record. Any ideas?

If you are serious about writing about it, and motivated by a desire to share it, then placing yourself and your story at the centre of it is, in my opinion:
      1. The only honest thing to do
      2. An amazing selling point

People buy stories, and are uplifted often just because someone else shares their own experience of something they relate to.
I come from a psycho-therapeutic background where, traditionally everyone is obsessed with anonymity. But I have learned that clients need to know that the person they are talking to actually has some real sense of their pain.
So, maybe you need to look at your motivations.
If you want to make some money are not interested too much in helping others, (which is fine) then it may be better to try something else.
If you want to make some money helping others, take a breath, have some faith, get some inspiration from those who have faced challenges and then gone on to write about them, and own your name.
      This is only my opinion.
      Good luck.

I am motivated to help people, I guess I just don't know how to present the success besides explaining. I know with some people have physical proof (full banks account, slimmer waist, etc.) for other niches, but how do you do it with this?

      What is your story?
So, you found out you had Condition X.
      Then you.....
      As a result, this happened....
From which you want to say this to others: 'xxx'.
If you can fill int he details of that story here, I am sure others will help you.

      • I had trouble with the whole idea of pen names and anonymity when I started. An established affiliate marketer, with a solid reputation for good business practices, someone I trusted, said personas are ethical, useful and practical.

Just tell the story as it happened to you and use a persona. Can you get a photo from a family scrapbook, someone who isn't living, and use it? Or second best, from one of the sites that sell photos online.

It's a combination of being just who you are, but under a different name and somewhat covering up the specifics of location, age, etc. People do it all the time online. And it's ok.

Put yourself in the shoes of the person looking for that information. What would you need to trust the person?

And also see your own limitations, do what feels right. I would be as authentic as possible without feeling exposed.

This is what I do in one of my niches: I use an image that is mine, but outdated enough so I have privacy.

People need to trust people. I don't lie about anything on my sites and I always give my name and everything else that people need to know about me to trust me. I would not trust anyone if they were giving me a false name after reading their site.

Um, here is the thing, I have Asperger's, and I don't want my name to be attached to it. You know why? Then everyone thinks you are like a psychopath who shoots up schools, because you don't have friends or are more of a loner. My reason for using that example is because that shooter from the other day had Asperger's, and I don't want to be equated to someone who definitely needed help, but more so than me. Understand?

Perfectly. You probably already know that the totality of the shooters were in psychotropic drugs. Drugs of which if you read the small print say: they can cause suicide or assassination episodes.

I have one lady in my community who tried to suicide, not once but twice under the influence of antidepressants.

Here is the thing... in this type of niche, whether you hide or become an advocate.

It is a tough choice. I am an empath, for the longest time I hid it not wanting to be confused with crazy or woohoo. Not anymore.

It did took me some shivering to get off the fence, but there is no way to stay on the border. if you don´t choose, the wind will do it for you.
