Lead Nurturing or Email Dripping?

I have worked pretty hard to get a mailing list of leads (they gave an email for a download) and I have been sending out a newsletter 1x/per month (mailchimp). Each newsletter has two article blurbs that link back to the articles on my website, as well as an ad for the book that I sell.

I have had only 1 or 2 unsubscribes in the last 8 months, but I'm not getting a great click through in the articles. And although I don't get unsubscribes, I'm not converting the 100 or so people on my list.

Which makes me start to wonder about lead nurturing and email dripping. I have three different services: 1) web development for dentists and doctors, 2) seo for the same 3) a book that I sell that is a guide for dentists for 1) and 2).

Any advice about where to start is MUCH appreciated -- I don't even know what to write to drip emails, especially since I have three different products they could be looking for. And should I try a service such as Loopfuse, etc -- or is that wasting time? I'm computer savvy so I can program, etc.

Thanks!

Test your copy...keep on tweaking it...directly ask your subscribers what it is that they want...there are a number of places where you can start.

At one letter a month you are lucky to get any opens at all. Are you tracking how many people are opening your letter?

People need to get to know you. Send them some information. Of course then you may get deleted by mail chimp as they do not like marketers at all .. not just internet marketers either .. all marketers.

Also 100 people is very small when no relationship is present. You need to build numbers as well as relationships.

Yes -- it's just that everyone on my list is a dentist (if that matters) and I don't want to assault everyone with email all the time. And yes, I'm tracking it. My open rate in order (Sept, Oct, Nov) is 42%, 41%, 30% respectively.

I had one person mark as spam which really made me cranky because he double-opted in - so I'm wary of sending too often.

And if I give two articles/month, shoud I give one article every two weeks?

      Thanks

Your numbers are showing they are forgetting who you are. Do not worry about being marked as spam. You have the credentials to prove it is not spam. They probably were thinking they were unsubscribing when they hit the spam button.

Don't let that one spam complaint do a disservice to the other 99. If your product is really helpful .. that is what you are doing if you are not getting it in front of them.

100 on the list .. last open rate 30% means you only have 30 people opening now. That is your list size now .. 30 people. You will more than likely need to get more on the list and also work on copy to get them to a buy button.

I would send them some relevant info once a week and let those who do not want the info unsub.

Thanks for the boost - the spam triggered a "warning" form MailChimp and it made me feel like I should back off/

          Ok so I will:
          1) change my newsletter ad for the book from "learn more" to "buy now" and I will make it a button and not a text link.

          2) Generally what I do is post 2 articles to the blog and then use those two articles first paragraphs as lead-ins for the newsletter. Should I keep doing this but do 4 posts per month?

          3) I also have to figure out how to market the three possible services I have
          a) seo b) web design c) the book. But that will come next.

Thank you for your insight! I think I need to read a book about email marketing!

Beckm2 .. I didn't realize you were using the chimp .. they do not like or want marketers using their program. About time you start doing well .. they will delete what you have. Be careful.

        Mailchimp aren't fans of promotions.

If you are selling stuff then consider moving before they cut you off.

Remember your offline marketing too. If you have the addresses you can send direct mail.

Don't worry about the unsubscribe. Not everyone is a customer.

Thanks for that -- so then what's the alternative:

          1) aweber, constant contact?
          2) or a service that does the lead nurturing and drip marketing like loopfuse? I pretty much know the technical aspect of things and do SEO (so I don't need hubspot), but I do need a system then that will help me automated the lead nurturing process based on role.

          What do others use?
Thank you both for the mailchimp heads up. I never knew!
