What is an Authority site and what does it consist of thanks.

    Authority site is a site with so much of unique,useful content about a particular niche.A simple authority site will have 100's of pages while a massive authority site will have thousands of articles in it.

    And "becoming" an authority site is a wonderful thing. One concept I have followed that really worked for me was something Matt referred to as the Katamari Technique (google it). You start with some pretty obscure or long tailed keywords, and sort of work your way up.

      I'm not sure that my definition of an authority site and Google's are the same. If the keyword is children's car seats for instance, Google probably ranks Target, Walmart, etc. very high.

      I feel that an authority site should give me a great deal of info. about all the different seats, legitimate reviews and not just sales information. It should be a site that gets backlinks because it provides value and other sites recognize that.

      Google's latest Google/Panda updates have good intentions but I'm not sure that they've done people searching for info. a favor by ranking sales sites so high in the search engines. That's one of the reasons the FTC is considering bringing anti-trust charges against Google.

      The bottom line is an authority site is where I would go for honest information.

    Ok im doing one about islam will it be easier to rank because I have good knowledge and I'll create upto ten posts a day also how important is backlinking on a authority site

      After all the recent Google updates, many people are turning their micro-niche sites into authority sites hoping that Google will give them some more love.

      Some people think that the definition of an authority site is a site that has more than a certain number of articles or hundreds of articles, etc. While this may be true, they also have to be sites that people want to visit. Sites that people will "Like", "tweet", "share", etc.

      My point is, putting a bunch of articles on a site does not necessarily qualify it for being an authority site. The articles must be original, informative or entertaining, quality articles (or videos) with accurate information that people will actually want to read and share.

        Totally agree that you have to have good stuff that people read, and that Google can tell if people actually read and interact. I was telling people google was using this in their algorithm 4-5 years ago and people were debating me on this, but it is pretty obvious now.
