Internet marketing for dummies

This is what i need and i know it. OK, I have read this forum alot in the past 48 hours and the problem I have besides the trust factor is that I don't really understand the general concepts of how to make $$ on the internet through blogging, clickbank, what SEO is, target niches, squidoo, ezine artciles, adwords, adsense, PPC and such.

I know the general rule is people post to basically try to sell their "make 2K in 2 weeks" merchandise and it is damn tempting because so many of those look good but there are countless number of them. I signed up along time ago and I actually bought something here in the WSO and that guy just flat out lied to me that he would guide me along and all of that. Soon as he had my $10, that was it. What a shocker.

I read the sticky about posting about "how to make $$" so I am not really doing that but looking for a good beginner start point so then from there, I can understand all of the verbage that goes on and really the process that so many are doing.

Also, I do not have hardly any $$ to invest in this, is this still feasible.

I know people on here appear to be dramtically successful in this, I'd love to learn but really not sure where to begin.

Thanks in advance for hopefully pointing me in the right direction so maybe I can sit back on the sidelines and read each night and learn more about this.

Also, a bodybuilder guy I know has used that Frank Kern's "internet cash empire" or something like that. I know it is an old product anhd I have looked at it but he says he makes around 15K a year and he never does anything with it or for it, it just sits there and he makes money on it. Not sure if i beleive him or not but if someone can give me some feedback on that, I'd appreciate it. I know this guy is huge in this business and he keeps coming up with new "launches" so when he does that, what does that mean is wrong with the original product?

Sorry, just so many questions to ask.

Gurus come out with new launches because it allows them to make more money than keeping the old product for sale. Although, things change pretty darn fast in the internet so some new things might be found, or just improving on old things.

Anyway, here is a simple (but not necessarily easy) way to make some money online:

      1) Go to clickbank and sign up there, or you can sign up with any cpa network.
2)choose a niche you want to go in (w/e you are passionate or knowledgeable in)
3)choose a product for that niche
4)make your own site or if you don't know how/don't have the money for it (10$/months) you can use something free, like a squidoo lens (squidoo.com)
5)on your site write a review/article that is generally informative and explains to people why they want to buy the product you are promoting.
6)drive traffic to your lens/site and wait for sales to happen.

That's a blueprint that you can use to get started, though obviously each of those points can be expanded and the last point is enormously big.
Don't like that method? Here is another one:

1)make your own site or use blogger blog (blogger.com) or squidoo lens (your own site is best though)
      2)Write about anything you want
3)if it's your own site or blogger blog, sign up for google adsense and place google adsense ads on your site (squidoo lens puts google adsense ads by default, but they take a portion of the money)
      4)drive traffic to your site/lens
5)people come to your site, read your content, click on the adsense ads - you get paid when they click.

    OK, they don't do that.

To go along with what J Smith mentioned adsense is a great place to start but after you have built your sites traffic you can try affiliate marketing. Basically you'll refer people to a membership type program and get a cut of the dues. This require some work and a loyal following, but worth the effort.

Thanks so much J. Smith and Chris.

How does adsense, PPC, and SEO work? Also, how do people make money from blogging? Through affiliate marketing? Just putting links to other people's goos on their page and hoping people click and buy??

I think I have that "Blogging to the bank" e-book somewhere

I'm a newbie, at it a month. I've got both methods I'm working - well one I'm working and one I'm using as a learning tool until I can work it too. I'm selling from Clickbank and then reinvesting into an affilliate program. It will cost you some money, but the biggest thing is time and patience. I would love to say I've made the $2000 grand, but I can't. I have made enough though to keep within my original budget, but used "earned" money to fund advertising, upgrades etc.
Don't expect auto-pilot money. If you want to earn you either pay for auto-pilot or you pay with time. Then as you grow your business, you can look to invest more money to free up your time to build your business in other areas.

Yes, these are the many facets of IM, basically a majority of us faced information overload, if only we could concentrate on one of those things and do it diligently, we would have been richer (my apology if you feel I should not generalize and talk on behalf of everyone here) than what we are now. Just pick whichever you have some talents and you are comfortable doing.

Yes it is possible to earn money online without any initial money to invest, there is even a specific term called bum marketing, basically a method that does not involve spending (much) money to make decent money. However, if you do not invest, your progress will be slow, I bet you heard of the saying that you need money to make more money, right? It won't help if you have loads of money but you opt to keep it in your pocket instead of leveraging it to expand/build up your business.

Possible, I think you should emulate his methods if possible, on other more recent products with good selling momentum at this moment, i.e. join clickbank and check product gravity to see how well it is selling at the moment.

Sometimes the really "big" IM just keep on producing products and let the marketing run its natural course, may be there is nothing wrong with the original product after all or it could be outdated. The reason for coming up with new product which does not offer anything new, IMHO, is just to make more money, i.e. outsiders don't have to know that he is marketing two similar products at the same time, he could hire resellers for this.

Well keep your questions coming, I am sure the warrior members would be glad to reinforce what they think they already knew when they attempt to answer your questions

adsense is a google's advertising program that allows you to put ads provided by google on your site and make money when people click on them. PPC is just a method of advertising where you pay when people click on your ads (that is, ads that you've created to promote w/e) really ppc is just a way of driving traffic to where you want. SEO is search engine optimization - a way to improve your sites position in search results, the idea here is that if your site is on page one for a popular key word, you'd get traffic from it.

You can make money by blogging by putting adsense ads on your site (you get paid when people click on them) by putting affiliate or cpa offers on your site (you get paid when people buy the product or take a specific action for cpa) You have to sign up with the affiliate program and get a special link though, can't just refer people to blahblah.com since it wouldn't register as a sale coming from you.

    J. Smith, and of all of those methods above, which ones cost me money? I can put some ads on my site and then if people just click them, but not buy, I can make money? Surely not.

I've been to clickbank and have signed up but not sure exactly what I would want to promote or what the numbers mean at the bottom. So basically, when people are "revireing" everything in these various articles, all of it is just a way for them to grab your attention and even lie, just to get you to click and buy because then they get $$.

I have alot of various things to talk about so blogging might not be a bad thing. I am also somewhat knowledgeable with sportsbetting.

But I have never put together a website in my life. And just to get a blahblah.com, it will be about $10 a year depending on how great the name is?

Yes, if you put adsense ads on your site, then when people click on them you get paid (the person on the other side of the add is hoping that the people who clicked on the ad on your site and went to theirs will buy or take w/e action is desired, which is why they are willing to pay google for those ads, and google pays you) but you aren't exactly making 10$ per click, in fact your earnings per click can vary from something like 1 cent to several dollars, depending on several factors.

However, let's do some math here, let's say you have a 10% click through rate (10% of site's visitors click on adsense ads) and you get paid 0.50$ per click (pretty good) if you wanted to make 50$/day you'd need 1,000 visitors a day. That's not easy to get at all, and for many people, building a list and promoting cpa/affiliate / your own product would likely give you better income.

So don't look at adsense as free easy money. It can be a nice income (ie. you have 5 sites each making 30$/day - you are making 150$/day without doing much) but it's not the way to untold riches like it seems at first.

As for clickbank, I haven't yet promoted anything from it 9I went with other cpa networks) but you should find a product that you like and preferably something that is of decent quality. Then just promote it, review, article sites, w/e makes sense to you.

In the end though, you can/should combine it all. If you make a blog about sportsbetting, you can put affiliate links/ads there (perhaps to betting sites or w/e affiliates are there for sports betting) you should build a list and offer your list some extra content. Add some cpa/affiliate offers (perhaps an ebook from click bank on this topic) and eventually make your own product and promote it to your list.

Anyway, making your own site is fairly easy with so many free software programs/platforms out there, but yes, it can seem hard the first time you do it. Imo, look at wordpress's self hosted sites (not wordpress.com wordpress blogs) you can actually find some videos on youtube that will show you how to set it up and everything.

The name will cost you around 10$ for a year if it's .com, different extensions have different prices (.info is 0.99$ but supposedly google doesn't like .info domains as much) you will also need hosting, I use hostgator.com with thier 10$ plan (but unlimited add on domains, so you can add a bunch more web sites to it with no extra hosting fees )

PS: PPC is the only one that costs money (you pay when people click, this is basicaly the other side of adsense) obviously adsense is free t sign up and you are the one getting paid by google, seo is free if you do it yourself, you can outsource specific tasks, and obviously that would cost you.

    Hi San,

Let me walk you through a fresh way to think about all of this.

In life, people have problems they need to solve. Also, people have opportunities they would like to take advantage of.

Some people have the same situation, problem, or opportunity.

Some of these groups of people not only have the same situation, but have money they are willing to put into a solution. These groups are called markets.

If they are a group of people with a very specialized need or desire, they are called a niche market. For a more generalized need or desire, it's a wide market. For example, having a car well maintained is a wide market. Having a '72 Camaro muffler replaced is a niche market.

A prospect is someone who has expressed interest in getting a solution delivered to them.

A qualified prospect is not only interested, but can afford to spend the money and would benefit from trading the money for the solution.

An offer is a promise to fix a problem or open the door to an opportunity, in exchange for money.

A sales message is detailed information about an offer, what exactly is included, and how to put in money so you can get the offer delivered.

A marketing message is an attention-grabber that tries to get qualified prospects to pay attention to a sales message.

The more you know about how to solve a particular type of problem or fulfill an opportunity, the stronger your offers.

A promising niche is one you can profitably serve. There are enough buyers to make money, yet not too much competition.

Knowing this, you can separate all the IM material into several piles.

There is information about how to find promising niches.
There is information about how to create products or find other products you can sell.
There is information about how to attract attention of prospects in those niches - using search engines, SEO, adwords, JV's, PPC, articles, Squidoo, and blogs.
There is information about how to make sales presentations - using squeeze pages, sales pages, autoresponders.
There is information about how to collect money when people order - using Paypal, merchant accounts, clickbank.

Think in terms of stages or components in the process. Just as with car repair info, you could put all the engine info in one pile, all the transmission info in another pile, all the info about tires into another pile.

    Regards,
    Allen

I won't start a new post as I think this fits in here. I've read up and am happy with the principles of adsense, but still have reservations about clickbank etc.

When promoting an affiliate product, how many people have actually seen the product they are pushing??

E.g. if you are promoting a 200 page pet-care e-book, have you actually bought and read it? If not, ethically how can you say how great it is? "This is fabulous! Buy now by clicking my affiliate link here!" Surely this is misleading and immoral, and frankly a bit of a con to the buyer.

The main thing to focus on when marketing online is to sell YOURSELF to other people, you know, get other people to know you and establish relationships with them.

Once you do that and if they like you, they'll want to join you in your business, regardless of what kind of business you're involved in.
