Jason Headsetsdotcom Made $45.5k in 6 Weeks

Jason Sadler offered to legally change his name for all of 2013 to the highest bidder. The highest bid was $45,500 and he is changing his last name to HeadsetsdotCom. His web page doesn't show that it is closed probably because he is out celebrating.

Just for his ingenuity he should be an honorary Warrior if he is not one already.

I am sure glad this guy did not use Fiverr!

I'll happily sell my last name for a year at that price I'll even buy my own documents to change it . The NBC article made me laugh, quite a cool way to make some money but you go to be in the position to be able to do it.

Hope it works for him -- I'm pretty sure that in every state in the U.S. you need a judge to approve a legal name change first. Some judges may consider this a frivolous request. Then after the name change is approved, he's got to contact his bank(s), Social Security, the IRS, get a new driver's license, his landlord or mortgage company, all other creditors if any, etc etc.

A lot of trouble to go to, but I guess worth it for $45k, plus whatever other monetization he can come up with.

Yes, I thought about all the hassle also. If he does pull it off and gets some good PR for the winning bidder he could probably make even more in 2014 from someone. Headsets . com might have already gotten $45.5k worth of PR since this has gone viral.

That's cool. Not sure if it's a great business model though -- you only have one last name to sell.

...and then you look like a tool for the rest of the year. :-)

Having moved houses recently I also don't think the stress and suffering of having to change your details with so many companies would be worth 45K for me. That's how bad it was!

He is donating 10% of it to charity though, so that's nice of him. He will also be making a substantial contribution to the tax department! As we all do...

Go back a few hundred years and selling your birthright was a capital offense.
