3 Top Ways to Get Free Traffic to Your Site

If you are new, you probably do not have a list or maybe you have a small list and want to grow it. The following are 3 top ways to get free traffic to your site:

1) Social Media - use your Facebook profile or fan page to invite your following to you site. Other social sites such as Twitter, Google +, Pinterest, and Linkedin are good as well. Socialize with your following and then casually invite them to see your offer on your site.

2) YouTube - create videos targeted towards you niche area, include your site URL in the description. Invite them to check out you site, use some small giveaway to get them to opt-in on your list.

3) Article Marketing - you can write and post articles in directories such as EzineArticles, and rank for specific keywords on Google.

Comment on these and also include other ways you use to get free traffic to your site.

Great list but there are some missing details

    SOCIAL MEDIA notes

    1) Make sure you use DRAMATIC or EYE-CATCHING headlines or else your social media posts won't get much traction.

    2) Make sure that you have your blog posts on AUTOPOST on Facebook and Twitter

    YOUTUBE notes

    1) Make sure you use long tail keywords with low competition and decent traffic and build videos for those.

    2) Make sure the videos upsell the viewer or get the viewer to subscribe to your channel or click the link in the description

I've had really good luck with Yahoo! Answers. Once you hit a certain level your links turn into hyperlinks (backlinks) when you answer a question -- leave your link as a source.

Actually, I have two aged accounts. If there aren't any relevant questions, I'll ask one and then answer it :p NOTE* I am not spamming Answers.. They're actually thought out questions followed-up with thought out, detailed answers.. Better than WikiAnswers b/c you actually get live hyperlinks out of Yahoo! Answers.

      My 2cents.

      CHEERS!

This is the same way I go. As well as blog commenting and Guest blogging can be good source of traffic, if can be done properly.

Um... Alexa Smith and MYOB are making boatloads of profit with article marketing done correctly. Placing your articles on article directories was always a horrible strategy.

I would suggest posting in facebook groups and communities daily - say 3 different ones per day - just something helpful, not selling or spam. I have found that over time this has really started to build some traffic to my sites.

From my modest internet experience so far I had nice success with regularly posting on forums related to the niche you are interested in. I stick to it for now because it gives me a nice traffic stream. That way you can have lots's of free traffic and I warmly recommend that method to everybody. Just do it regularly every day and you'll be surprised with results! I heard posting on others blogs is also a good source of traffic but I haven't done it yet. Will start to do it soon and will see how it goes with that .
    Good luck !

    1. Forum Marketing - contribute to forum discussions, answer people's questions
    2. Article Marketing - submit your articles to sites like Ezinearticles and Goarticles, these authoritative sites get a lot of internal traffic from people looking for information. You usually get to put two "self serving" links in your resource box
    3. YouTube - youtube is the #2 search engine in the world, enough said

Forum marketing works if there is a strong connection between the content you post, the demographics of the forum, and the needs filled by your offer. This has to be present. Or else the return on effort just won't be there.

Yeah, I like forum marketing too. Each post creates a backlink to your site if you have a siggy. I post on 3 to 5 forums regularly, and use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of where I last posted. I find that more than 5 forums is too much of a hassle. It's a slow process but it builds over time and have always worked very well.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned it yet, but I found that creating products is a great way to not just generate traffic to your website, but also build a list of people who are arty interested in what you have to offer since they party paid for your product or at least opted in for your free product.

What I usually do is I'll create something on my website that I sell in certain price and then I will turn it into a WSO and sell it at a reduced or free price. Usually I can get around 150 to 250 people on my list from the get go. Sure, it's not free like the other avenues that are listed, but it's easy to recoup the cost of a WSO if you have a good product.

      I don't know, works for me. :-)

  • They are three good points but they need some more, otherwise they will go fast down to the drain. Everything nowadays need efforts and a bit of technique.

I will focus on social and video marketing, leaving articles in second place, because after Google Penguin and Panda update, they just provide backlinks.

Try to automatically post all your blog articles on Facebook and Twitter, and build up a page for your blog. Try also to use quality images on your posts, and you will attract more attention. Right now I'm selling a lot of products via Facebook, and I've around 1500 followers. Consider their conversion has passed my list conversions!

Videos are also a good thing, but you must target long tail keywords with some traffic to win the battle with the other millions of people. Try to use that long tail keyword for title, and choose other two to place in your description. Now YOutube has deactivated the url insertion in description, but you can use some cool ideas to put it anyway. People know it's easy to copy and paste!

    Thanks and see you soon!

Is it really a good idea to post your blog posts on FB at the same time or soon after you do it on your own site? What if Google indexes teh contnet on the FB page before it does on your site. Also, having your pages on numerous sites (the same copy) may trigger a duplicate content penalty or something of that sort. I knwo its unlikely but you never know.

Here's a SECRET for Twitter--piggyback HASHTAGS. Find related hashtags and hitch a ride on it with very SHOCKING (but accurate) titles. The key is to get them to click. They won't click if your title isn't shocking AND acts as a filter. Remember, you only want clicks from people in your target audience. You filter with your title and your hashtags.

I still like to use a 2 for 1 system. Its a good ole fashioned linking strategy that brings free traffic quickly and creates an authoritative image for me and my main website....

    1. After my initial site seo groundwork is laid out for my main keyword, I will create web 2.0/blogs using easier longtail and related keywords for site titles - example. if my main keyword is 'bloggingseo', I would create free blogs / web 2.0 with url's like 'howtogetfreeblogtraffic.wordpress.org' or 'squidoo.com/seooptimizedcontentforblogs' (neither are mine, just examples). Create around 3 sites with 3-5 150-250 word posts and link directly to main site page(s) ofcourse.

    2. Then use basic linking strategy- articles, free press releases, profile links, even videos that link only to these longtail blogs.

    3. Bookmark and ping everything.

    4. Add more links consistently (and slowly).

I usually get free organic traffic very quickly - and eventually my main site will see large numbers of free search engine traffic ,ranking highly for a number of keyword variations.

There are obviously other steps and a long term approach that I use to appease google, but that is a very basic strategy, Im sure most of ya'll already know this one, figured I would just throw it out there

What do you do to make the link footprint of this link wheel look more "NATURAL" to Google? As you know, Penguin cracked down on many of the linking schemes out there plus also Panda seems to be getting in on the action re content similarity as reported by many marketers regarding the November update of Panda.

Free traffic only works well once you've established a trustworthy and long lasting brand. It's not enough to generate 5 leads a day from free forum traffic or social media sites. It's just not going to help you to build a massive list and make sales.

It makes the most sense to either invest in paid traffic (if you can afford it), or write books on Kindle.

I've been seeing some results from forum marketing and commenting on blogs. Right now it's about half and half. These are also the only 2 traffic sources that I have seriously tried. I figure it's better to master one and then move on than to have a bunch that I'm failing at.

My strategy for using blogs is kinda different. I'm subscribed to a couple blogs that regularly have guest posts. When I see a guest post I like, I head over to the poster's website and add their feed to google reader. I have a ton of blogs that I post comments on.

I'm not doing it strictly for traffic, though. These blogs are in my niche, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible. The fact that I'm leaving a comment really is just an afterthought after reading a helpful article.

I also never spam, and never leave a link in the body of my comment. I just have a link to my website as a hyperlink in my name.

Instagram marketing is pretty good too. The key is to be followed. It works similar to Twitter promotions. Get lots of followers. Broadcast your branded photo or url marked photo and have your followers viralize it. It works best for branding instead of direct url click traffic.

Whatever it is you do, make it of quality.

Personally, a tested way to driving (converting) traffic to your website is high quality videos, guest blog articles, and general articles. Social media also works great, if you know which to network to use (cough, Pinterest, Tumblr cough cough).

    Facebook

Those 3 websites combined, equal a LARGE segment of the internet imo.
So if you can't get traffic from them, then you're marketing sucks. =]

But seriously, thats all we really focus on, and so far our business is doing great.
More recently our keywords have started hitting page 1 on google too. But we need to move up a bit higher to see that traffic. Once we have all 4 dominated, we will definitely need to hire more people (its an offline biz).

Paid ads? The click through rate on graphical ads are pretty bad. Maybe you'd have better luck with text banner ads that are blended with the host site's colors and fonts. The key to a decent ROI with graphical ads is to focus on BRANDING instead. CPM campaigns
