WP theme worries- Could my theme gets stolen?

I have purchased a WordPress theme but since I'm not a techie person I decided to hire someone to modify it. Of course this requires an access to the FTP & WP admin. This is not what I am worried about - what worries me is the possibility of the theme being taken/stolen by the person I hired since he'll have access to everything.

Does this depend on the reliability & credibility of the WP developer that someone hires? Or the case of stealing a purchased WP theme will never happen & I am worrying over nothing here?

Hope someone helps...

Just make sure you change passwords afterwards. Some people are also willing to help you without getting log in access (as long as you can copy/paste in the code yourself).

That being said, I wouldn't waste energy worrying about this. It's outside of your control. As long as you do what you can (change passwords, give him/her limited access, only access to WP itself etc), you can't control whether or not the person is a thief.

Worrying about this will only hurt you, and steal away time you could use to be productive instead.

i think once he customise the theme , for eg the clickbump theme for you, you could contact the seller of the theme to change the registration /activation /password of the theme to a new one so even if the hired fellow stolen the theme he may not be able to activate it for the further updates but if he as better coder then he may be able to null the theme for his own use. you have to be careful when you hire some one to code or modify the theme for you as he could insert the malicious script or code inside your theme and manipulate your site for his own advantage

You're right, there's nothing stopping him from taking the theme if he wants it. But I doubt it's going to ruin your business. I mean, how likely is it that he's going to make a site just like your with the exact same theme only better in the next couple of weeks...

Frankly, yes, the other guy has access to your root or wordpress content folder (up to the theme folder in question) he will definitely have all the information, and access he needs to copy/steal your theme.

You can limit his ftp access though. If you create an ftp user with access only to :

    public_html/yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/yourtheme/thefolderheneedsaccessto

then your proprietary theme should be safe. If he needs to access another folder you can provide him another ftp account with access to whichever specific folder he needs.

The main thing here is that your guy must be honest, and that he won't take any licensed items from your server. But this of course, would depend on his personal choices and ethics. you can make him sign a contract if you want. Some people with bad intentions get discouraged when they sign things.

I would use the option where you give him no access.

He can simply install the WordPress theme on his own site/computer. Make the mods and send it back to you to install on your own site.

    No user accounts/passwords required.

Be sure that person is a legit one. And make sure to change passwords afterwards.

Nowsadays, many premium themes are being stolen and rip by warez zones. No matter what they do, you just focusing on your business rather than worrying about something that you don't know.
Many recommendation above are valid and can reduce the chance of the theme being stolen.
